I have exactly the same problem, and i reckon is a broken bracket holding the exhaust on. Dont want to pay for a new exhaust, just a weld or new bracket. (if anyone knows who can weld in glasgow area, be appreciated!!!)

All I have notices specs of what looks like rust specs on all four brake discs. This is a 55 plate, with 29k on the clock and was mentioned at the last service two months ago, but not as in needing any work done yet. After driving for a few miles and braking etc this disappears. I am due for its first MOT end of this month, and am wondering if this could be a failure? personally, this seems quite unusual for a 3 yr old car with average mileage. was too dark to add photos, but will add if this helps. dont suppose there anything i can do under warranty? i got three weeks left in that! personally, the rear of the top red one looks great, but the front... lets just say not sure. personally, i think the way the vrs looks at the front normally is one of best aspects of the cars visuals.

That one on the skoda website has been for sale most part of a year at least. was up at 10995 in june last year when i bought mine! dont know if that says something or not!

I had a cheapo cassette thing, was loud, looked at the itrip radio type things etc, then bought top of range sony tape conversion for a whoppin £7 and its better sound quality than my CD player! dead quiet, cant hear tape at all. just my tuppence worth, especially as in car radio would also have a wire to charge to the cigarette lighter.

did not sound like that to be honest, was a very metallic whirring noise when the turbo picked up, and on start up. stopped when didnt accelerate etc. turned out it was not the turbo but a blown manifold gasket see a thread "Not a new turbo...." posted a few days a go giving an update. mine was under warranty but repairing the gasket cos them about a fiver according to copy of work done i insisted on getting a copy of. fingers crossed for you!

I have a slightly different issue when the car and brakes are cold, they make a terrible racket when slowing down, but this is going forward. i assume this is just because they are cold....

However, copy of the work says work was blown exhaust manifold, strip out air intake pipe/turbo and exh manifold. worrying how could be told something quite so wrong. as weekend, not been able to call up to clarify with garage

agreed! apparently it was a loose bearing, so they replaced the whole thing! thank goodness for warranties! doesnt seem typical of anything more serious, hopefully just an isolated mishap!!

I bought it with 19k on it,m added 5k so far. Always warmed up and let it cool down, so assume previous owner booted it heck of a lot!! am bit wary that it went after 25k, but sure just paranoia!!

Hi All After commenting that my car making strange noise under acceleration, it appears i need a new Turbo on my Mk1 vRS which i have only had 6 months. Thankfully, i have a few months left on the vehicle warranty, so wont cost me anything. (at last i can justify paying that bit extra for the newer car!) Guess i am just looking to see what i should be wary of, having had a new turbo put in the car? Also, out of curiosity, how much would this have cost if my warranty had expired?! Cheers G

This may be something very obvious and turn into a "doh" moment, however, being unfamiliar with anything turbo, thought i had better ask. Had a 55 plate vRS for 6 months now, very happy so far. I have noticed recently, that after accelerating moderately, and with foot of the gas, there is a very faint high pitch whistling noise coming from engine. It can last anything up to 5 -8 seconds. This is about 3-4k revs with foot totally off the gas. Is there any explanation for this? any ideas much appreciated.

I know most of you wont have a standard vrs, but looking at the new jazzed up skoda co uk website, they have the Mk 1 vRS as 0 - 60 as 8.5 secs. yet most things i have read say 7.9? Not really a big issue for 99% of driving, just curious as to the correct answer!! Any ideas?!
