I got this, it was just needing cleaned out, rust etc. So it's all back together, initially the handbrake was soft but I've bled the brakes again and it's pretty decent strength as are the brakes, I may bleed one more time now that I know what I'm doing. I removed an abs sensor to get access and even after replacing it the abs warning light is on. I also have the traction control warning light and electromechanical power steering warning light on, I did remove the battery at one point though. The elm327 scanner doesn't pick up any fault codes but the car is a bit wobbly I think, not too bad but I'm sure it's slightly off. I put this down to the new pads being too tight or just breaking in. Any ideas about this?

So I got the new caliper carrier bolts and this is the first time I've done this, so the bolt firstly goes through the hole in the hub housing then it screws into the caliper carrier on the other side. Firstly, I assume the hole in the hub housing is not threaded, it's just a smooth bore? So I tried to tap the bolt in with a hammer but it's really tight, so tight I think you could damage the threads in the bolt so I didn't want to go past abut 1/2 inch in. Does this sound right, should the bolt be tight in this hole, am I doing this right? Do I need to wire brush the hole first?

What are the chances Skoda will have your part in stock for same day pickup or do they have to order everything from the main Skoda warehouse?

Well I have now but I couldn't get the caliper carrier bolts off for a while. Even measuring them I get 258mm everyway way I try it. You may say well your just not measuring it 100% accurately but that's as accurate as I can do it with a metal ruler. It seems that 260mm was the standard for Octavia mk2's pre around September 2009 then they started using 256mm. Same with a variety of other parts such as caliper piston sizes, they were 41mm now they are 38mm. Eurocarparts however has not updated their site and are wanting to sell me 256mm discs and pads that are 2mm to wide. The dealer says I need 260mm discs and so does the data sheet that WINO linked me. I'm glad this site is here as I would have fitted 256mm discs, which would go on however I know the pads wouldn't have fitted and I would have probably called out a mobile mechanic and both of us would have been scratching our heads as to why nothing was fitting/working. I guess we would have just phoned Skoda and realised our mistake eventually. Apparently you can file down the sides of brakes pads to fit though this is a DIY hack and I wouldn't advice it.

Bump, should be getting parts tomorrow, does anyone know if it matters which way round these caliper piston seals ho in?

Does anyone know if it matters what way around these O seals go in, it can only be two different ways, I read there may be a lip on some of these seals that has to sit a certain way, i.e nearest the top or bottom?

Bit of a basic question but I bought one of those elm327 Bluetooth mini scanners. It doesn't seem to fit into the OBD2 port, if it is indeed an OBD2 port, maybe it's OBD1. 2008 Octavia. The shape of the port looks more rectangular than the shape of the scanner interface. It doesn't look the right fit but maybe it is. I didn't want to force it Incase I broke it?

So my next question. On the skoda.7zap site, there lists two different caliper carrier bolts, they both have the same description , how do you tell which ones you need, for example, so you get 16 and (16). 16 N 91006802 socket head bolt with inner multipoint head (kombi) (16) N 91081501 socket head bolt with inner multipoint head (kombi)

Any idea why the caliper carrier bolts are referenced as M12 bolts when they need and M14 spline socket? So I finally managed to get a brake disc removed , the carrier bolt heads had to be cut off and the carrier smashed out, very arduous process. Now my next problem, I have a metal ruler and if I measure the diameter as best I can I make the diameter 258mm. Now as far as I can tell eurocarparts are recommending me 256mm discs but the data sheets are dealer say 260mm discs, maybe it's really 258mm? Could the diameter have shrunk 2mm from corrosion on the edges? This saga is going on and on.

Can anyone tell me if these rear brake pads are the right size. I bought them from eurocarparts before I really understood that searching by REG on ECP doesn't necessarily give me the right results for my car. For example it says I need 256mm brake discs when really I need 260mm or it says I have a 38mm caliper piston when actually it's a 41mm piston. However maybe pads are more universal. It also lists the dimensions as 105.5mm, 55.9, 17.1mm. so are the pads I bought the same as these, I thinking I've bought the wrong pads even though the dimensions are possibly just 1mm off from what I should have, but it's not 100% clear to me?

I took caliper off and fitted a new o seal unfortunately I damaged the brake pipe in the process.

How do you know that fits as doesn't list Skoda Octavia 2008?

Do you think you could find me a rear right side caliper brake pipe, the short metal one with plastic coat that goes from caliper to brake hose union. I've looked and looked, Skoda is wanting £30!. I can't be sure I've found the right pipe. You seem quite clued up on this. Don't bother if you don't want to do it but I'd appreciate it if you did, I'm looking for as cheap as possible ideally £15 or less.

Next question is, is the short metal brake line from the caliper to the hose universal, as the only ones I can find are around £20. Are these standard fittings and construction between all cars?

Why is it that there seems to be two different sizes for at least several parts for my car for example when searching by REG various sites like EuroCarParts tell me I need a 38mm caliper yet when I measure the caliper with digital Vernier calipers, it's 41mm and I also see various sellers on eBay selling 41mm calipers for Skoda Octavia and in my year yet the built in eBay tells me these do not fit your car? So there are opposing messages here.

So my rear piston won't wind in. I have the tool and had removed the caliper from the car. Now the piston screws in fine when the O ring(or I think it's actually called a square seal even though it's round) seal is removed and I've cleaned the bore and groove where the seal sits thoroughly but no change. The piston still will not wind in at all the seal is causing to much resistance/friction. I've ordered a new seal but the current seal looks ok it doesn't looked damaged or distorted. But then these are fine fits so maybe a new seal will sort the problem, I'm kind of doubting it will but I can't see any other option and it's obviously the seal that's preventing the piston winding in. Any ideas?

I just bought this 38mm bore caliper from eBay which the description says should fit my car, 2008 Octavia FSI 1.6 etc. Now I measure the caliper I've just removed and it's 41mm piston bore. This worries me as the current discs won't remove without removing the carrier so maybe they are 260mm after all, I'm still working on removing the carrier. If my brake reservoir is dry can I top it up, bleed the system and drive it even if air has got into the abs system? I may need to drive it to garage etc?

So the fluid was leaking from this open piston bore for quite a long time would that not result is drying out the brake reservoir?

The dust boot slipped out from the piston bore, I don't remember if it was slipped when I started or beforehand, as a result there's been a lot of fluid leakage. I've ordered a new caliper and it should be straightforward installing it but I'm worried there may now be air in the abs system?
