Yep it's tight but you should be able to do it. Try at a slight angle.

You can just knock the carrier off with a mallet, it might take you a good 10mins of hammering. The bolts are only threaded at the last half inch so it's smooth through the carrier bolt hole. This happened to me, first I used heat on one bolt and the head sheared right off using breaker bar so I cut the head off the other bolt with a Dremel and using a mallet I knocked the carrier right off but it did take a lot of hammering. It also depends how cleanly you snapped the heads off you may need to use a Dremel to cut any head left on. The holes where the bolt goes through can rust inside almost welding the bolt in also, hence it may need some serious hammering to knock the carrier off. You hammer from the inside out.

Thankfully you posted that, so it's actually isobutane which is flammable. I'm going to ditch this idea and just put the car into the garage. I didn't spend much on the whole thing. Where would take the gas to be disposed of?

They say 168g is equivalent of 453g of gas. I'm hoping they are a reputable company. I did notice that I didn't get a confirmation email when I ordered but that might be a small thing. I just want cold air. My car recommended 525 +- 25 grams so 500g minimum, i know that 50g short. It's all very unprofessional. I measured the pressure today and as expected the dials on the gauge didn't budge.

But I was talking about if I filled the low side with the camping gas r134a I should be receiving tomorrow without vacuuming first. I really doubt there's a molecule of Freon in the system as it hasn't blown cold air since about 9 months ago and when i bought the car the AC didn't blow cold air so who knows how long it's been like that.

I'll just be refilling from the r134a can don't need a vacuum pump for that. I'm just going to add a few drops of dye and refill the system. That's what kwikfit (if your in the UK) said they would do, and I'll monitor it, maybe I'll get cold air and the air will leak out over the next days/weeks. Maybe I won't get cold air and the compressor is shot. So either way it will tell me what's going on. If it doesn't hold gas it will need the full evac/repair leak/compressor/vacuum/refill. As for the oil that's trickier unless you fully remove the compressor. I do really want to get it working though as I don't do well in a hot car, I sweat like crazy and it's very uncomfortable.

Interesting, I've ordered a bottle of r134a and will get some dye also, the only thing a home mechanic can't do is legally evacuate the Freon but I shouldn't need to do that as it's empty anyway. I might see if I can get an o ring set, I'd still need a vacuum pump to vacuum the system.

I have the pressure gauges / hoses kit, I will measure the pressure later today but I'm sure the needles won't move as the compressor needs to be running and I don't think it runs when the system has no R134a in it.

I've read it's at the join between pipe and compressor does anyone have any experience? If it is at this join is it an easy job to put a new seal in?

Inflate tires to 35 psi. Clean out EGR valve Clean or replace oxygen sensor. Clean injectors Replace spark plugs Replace filters Check and regrease caliper guide pins and generally check over calipers Make sure brake pads are greased around edges and back Get engine remapped.

Rock jacked up wheel back and forth and you will get some play(well usually) if bearing is bad.

I think there may be a few places on the car with the code, try the side of the passenger door. Have a look everywhere.

I found it including connector it was indeed buried under that pile of cables you referenced, impossible to see until you moved the cables back. Thanks again. So I tried the AC, should I be able to hear the compressor engaging when I press the AC button on the climate panel, I can't hear anything distinctive? I'll just assume it's out of gas.

Ok thanks. So it looks like I need to remove and look behind the climate control panel in the cabin. It look like I can just hook this up, regass it and hope it works. Does it says the amps of the fuse 4? Why would anybody remove this, any ideas, just to delete the AC because it had some issue that wasn't worth fixing?

It's an 07 FSI 1.6l petrol though on most sites they identify it as an 08 model, sites like insurance after putting in reg. I'm pretty sure it's climatic. This is the compressor part number. 1k0820859e There is no cut off loom, no clues at all, I've looked everywhere high and low, just nothing. There's a plug going into the compressor but I think this is to do with a solenoid in the compressor. There's just nothing, no bits of cut cable, no ends, all other wiring is connected to something.

You can see in this schematic, item number 5, that nothing is connected to this G65 sensor.
