  1. Grrre. Went flat again yesterday. Its never in the morning ie 1st cold start. Its alway when its been running and off for a few minutes. I have already added 2 extra negative cables from the battery to chassis and bell housing. Just don't wanna buy a new battrry and it be flat again. Took battery off again this morning to look for this engine earth strap and couldn't find it. Battery was at 12.77v off the car whic says its good, but i wonder whether its just too weak in size as its not even a 096 battery which is what im supposed to have. Its a smaller 61amp battery. Someone pls point me in the direction of this earth strap. Also my boot has been playing up ie not fully closing after a slam and have checked the wiring loom all seems good and none of the repairs are loose or undone.
  2. I personally think its the battery now. I took it out and charged it and its been fine since. So probably where ive been jump starting it, the battery needed a good charge. Also i have to factor in its 61amp battery with only 540cca on a fully loaded car which i think is the real issue. Going to order a 77ah 780cca varta or exide for 75odd online.
  3. Unfortunately short lived for me too. Battery went flat after doing 15 odd miles having stopped for fuel. Anyhow connected a multimeter and was showing 12.2v but had tried 2 times to start although it started and cut out which was a new one. 5 minutes later 12.63v. Opened the door and immediately dropped to 10.3v for 5-7minutes then starting rising first to 11.33v then 12.63v. Ignition on and it dropped to 9.94v and during crank 6.6v. Grrrrr
  4. 'superb' advice. Picked up 2 60cm negative cables from Halfords this morning. Took off the air box and battery tray. Cleaned up the earthing points underneath and ran a cable to the bell housing stud and one to existing stud. I am so hoping this works but so far best bit of advice as it makes so much sense. To top things of I always had a very sloppy gearknob and every now and then 1st gear was hard to engage, found the selector nut to be totally loose, tightened that up and oh my god, what smoothness i got back from gear changes. Another thing whenever i touched the clutch i got a ticking sound that coupled with the hard 1st gear i had put down to a possibly failing dmf, all it was is the pipe coming out of gearbox the hydraulic line was sitting loose, so cabled tied that up and now no noise either. Win win win today. Just hope this battery issue is resolved
  5. Yes it is. The arms are quite cheap anyway. The theory was that the arm itself is fine its only the bushing that goes but as with all things nowadays, its a markup
  6. Not difficult but will need a press to get them in
  7. Hi all Very similar but strange one for me that i cant get to the bottom of. Starts 1st time every time even on cold mornings no problems while driving. The only issue i get is when parked up and im cleaning car out or stopped with engine off for say max 10 minutes which is enough to give me a non start. I can sit in the car for an hour with the key out of the ignition it will be fine. So mine seems to only do it if doors are open or key in the ignition. I even switch the interior light switch to off to prevent a drain Battery according to halfords checked out as a good battery. All my tests with a voltmeter show 12.9v even 2 hours after switching off and car in sleep. Alternator is charging fine at 13.9v Now if a battery has ever gone on me its been poor cold starts or simply not holding charge after a run, but this ones a strange one for me. It is however a 61ah 580cca battery genuine vw/skoda battery which in my opinion is too small and will change to a varta 77ah with 780cca.
  8. Has anyone done an tie rod on a superb mk2. Went to get alignment today and they couldn't as they said threads on were rusted and gone so couldn't turn nut back to adjust. Might as well do both sides Does the subframe need to come off? Also the bolt for the rear arm to adjust was seized apparently but just look ike a simple camber adjustable nut and bolt which i will try and free myself
  9. Thanks for that. Yes most likely but its such a strange one. Ive always had cold start failure as a sign that the battery is going but not when its driving and starting fine. Even now its showing 12.9v after sitting for 2 hours.
  10. Ok so had anotger flat today while filling up. I find its when i leave keys in ignition and or interior lights on. Jum started got home connected a voltmeter which has been on now for over an hour and reading 13.0volts. Where is the earth strap? Did check and clean posts and connections into distribution box and apply vaseline to all exposed metal. Any advice before i go an order a new battery
  11. I do have the 18" setup. My bearing didn't look to bad when i took it off noise wise but had play in it. I do recall when i took wheel off a day before getting tyres done that wheel was stuck on so as you do i booted the top of the wheel at 12 o clock and it came off straight away. But that made think maybe the bearing became loose like that. Although whenever i span it up couldn't get any noise. Now outer cv joint i did think of that. But never having ever had an outer cv joint drone like this and only click on full lock thats a new one for me. I had it out today as well while doing the bearing i should have checked. Ok so is it a sharp wiggle for play?
  12. Mmm. Problem is all noise is only at the same osf side.
  13. What size were you using
  14. What a month this has been. New tyres all round Full service Front osf caliper seized on Rear osr caliper leaking Headlight xenon bulb gone New wheel bearing New calipers New pads. Now after fitting tyres had a droning noise and very wheel bearing like. Anyhow as it was a mates tyre shop he changed the tyre 2 days later and still im getting a droning. Ordered a new wheel bearing and fitted today. Droning still there but a bit less. Coming from osf wheel. Even when braking you hear a lot of road and braking noise. So gutted Do you think when the caliper seized its warped the disc? Surely after 2 tyres and a new wheel bearing can only be the only option? Or have i missed something Pls pls help before i go crazy
  15. Strange intermittent flat battery twice now during the daytime and not 1st thing in the morning. Car is regular use everyday. 1st time was at a petrol station first crank was flat battery and second was just enough to get it started. 2nd was yesterday after a 20 mile run turned car off and returned 1 minute later to a near dead battery. Tried maybe 3 times to start and it didn't. Voltage with a voltmeter was 10.41volts after the attempts to start. After starting battery voltage was 13.98 volts amd alternator was 14.12 volts. Anyhow started with a jump. Went to halfords and got a battery test in which battery was good. So confused because if the alternator is not right im sure it trips a warning light. Does this just sound like a simple battery. Ive always had the battery go slowly and first signs would always be cold start problems, but after a run battery would be charging and would hold for a little while and not die immediately but this being intermittent has stumbled me Even this morning started first time
  16. Do you have stop start? Only reason to have installed an agm battery
  17. Can i get the wiring colours please if i tap in the same place you did
  18. Nice write up. Where did you get your power supply from? Heard loads of horror stories of trying to get through from the battery. Im just looking to tap into the back of the head unit using a loc run a simple amp and sub in boot setup
  19. I do get the mot bit but being in the main beam or fogs i just want max brightness. Fogs to be honest i never use manually i just want super bright light for cornering. Main beams i just want max brightness
  20. Yes i did see them. How long you had them in. Previously i had bad experiences with led w5w sidelights bulbs as in none would last more than a week without flickering so i gave up on them. I am really wanting to add h3 leds for the main beam and h8 leds for the fogs made by nighteye/novsight but wanted a long term review on them
  21. Anyone installed led bulbs in main beam fogs or drl's. Seen a few on ebay made by nighteye/novsight. Any reviews
  22. Has anyone got a list of vcds tweaks for the superb mk2 pre facelift.
  23. Yes it was just a temporary measure. I have ordered a new one. That was just to get by
  24. Typical. Mines due to arrive by midday. Will let ya know how it goes
