  1. 1999 Octavia Slx Tdi Estate. Now I have had this car for 4 years and covered 90000m(total on car is 134000) I decided to sit down and work out what it has costed me so far. I included purchase price to me of £4900, insurance £340year, Breakdown Cover, Tax Disc, Tyres, Servicing/maintenance/repairs and fuel estimated at 50mpg and a fuel cost of 95ppl (dont know exactly what the average is since 2004 so have guestimated) Total running cost including purchase is £ 19389.20 over 4 years 90000m = 21.5ppm. I actually thought it was costing me a lot to run so am pleasantly surprised by this. Got it serviced and MOT'd today so that's good too. I use my car for work and get expenses for this do about 12000m year so get approx £4500 for this so my private motoring costs me next to nothing. Don't want to gloat though they say "pride comes before a fall".
  2. Saw one in Edinburgh a couple of weeks before Christmas. Very Nice:)
  3. If you have to ask where the fuse box is are u sure you should be fitting a CB yourself?
  4. As sebulbus says check gear link at end of gear selector cable where it joins the gearbox. I had similar symptoms and eventually this plastic linkage fractured. Left me stranded but breakdown (britannia) service got me going temporarily and indi garage repaired for very little Just realised yours is Mk2 Octy I was talking about MK 1 APOLOGIES
  5. Thanks Ian, Like you I eventually found on the forum to remove fuse 15 and I have the same results as you. Working speedo etc but no memory for clock/trip which is annoying but easily lived with. The car's getting to the age where it isn't worth spending a lot on it but generally it goes very well I'm doing 500 to 600m week so in all honesty it doesn't owe me a lot.
  6. When I was 17('87) a neighbour who was about 19 with plenty of money had a new Fiat Strada Abarth proper rally seats in it; now that was quick!! Fantastically quick! He was a bit of a kn*b though or was I just jealous??
  7. treat them how you would want to be treated:handshke:
  8. As I mentioned in your previous post the ground clearance is pretty poor. i'm up and down a lot of farm tracks and on forest roads for marshalling at rallies and you do catch quite often. I had a sump guard fitted so it is a bit lower but even going up roads carefully staying out of potholes and wheel ruts I still scrape the bottom. Our local livestock market staff have Octavias, Boras and Golfs and a few of them have had replacement sumps. I've never burst my sump but the sump guard is fairly battle scarred. I do think however the MK2 Octavia sits a bit higher.
  9. I was given a Kia Ceed diesel(1.6) last month at Stanstead airport as a hire car for a week working in Suffolk/Norfolk. Initially wasn't happy, it was a Kia after all, but it turned out to be a bloody good little car My main critisism was poor soundproofing- car was very noisy underneath when driving in wet. Compared to my old 110hp Octavia performance was excellent as was build quality. Suppose this is just the same badge snobbery that Skoda suffers/suffered from. Liked the idea of 7yr 100000m warranty. My Octavia when new had 3yr Unlimited warranty in 1999 doesn't say much for the brand when they no longer have the confidence to offer this.
  10. I ran Osram 100/80w bulbs for quite a while and because I'm in a remote area often on main beam. Had no problems and passed MOT. However lighting was not that brilliant canged to Phillips vision plus bought from Powerbulbs and the difference was like night and day! Not sure of exact type of Phillips bulbs it was the type that won Autoexpress test. I think you can access the test on Autoexpress website.
  11. Niall, Is that the one in Gillingham on the Approved Used Website? Seemed a reasonable price if it is compared to the usual policy of over pricing nearly new cars. I'm quite envious. Hope all goes well.
  12. Have had a very nice lady on from CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) this morning quoted £15695 for mettalic. 1st owner, 12m tax delivered on trailer 1.9tdi 4x4. Will also take trade in valuation for my car yet to be given. CSMA cars supplied by LLoyds TSB autolease. Anyone bought a car from CSMA?
  13. Worn shocks and 2x broken springs at 100000m. Clutch pedal broke around 90000m(box weld on back fractured), Connector at end of gear selector cable onto gearbox fractured approx 115000m, wheel bearings 50 to 60k, Speedo last week(seems to be dry joint problem as on forum), Door release cable snapped around 128000. Sump now leaking at plug. ABS sensor and MAF at approx 60k. Heater control panel (no blower) at around 100k. Drivers door lock approx 80k It's not that major components are failing just small niggly things that cost time, inconvience and money to fix. I'm maybe one of those people that stupidly expects things to run and run if maintained well like my car has. The engine is still very strong, steering brakes and gears also good. This is a standard 110 tdi and the performance still impresses me and at 55mpg better still. Exhaust and clutch still original and sound. BUT Compared to my last car a mk3 golf 1.8 cl petrol bought at auction at 7yr(£3k) old with 50000m kept for 5yrs sold at 12yr old for £600 with 180000m this has cost me a lot more to keep. However I'm still thinking of replacing it with another Octavia or maybe an Avensis. The skoda dealers seem to have a totally disinterested attitude though. Or is this main dealers in general. Don't be put off by my rant maintain your car well and hopefully it'll repay you. Cheers Graham
  14. Or should I buy an Avensis tourer diesel instead. I cover up to 25000m annually and reliability, longevity and good running costs are important
  15. If my experiences are anything to go by you'll be luck to get another 100000m or 5 years without major expenditure . My car for the last year has had components break through fatigue of materials used and several worn out components. Good luck though Sorry in a strop cause speedo fault started Thursday just as I was thinking of selling the car
  16. What's the best price I should be paying for a brand new mettalic 1.9Tdi 4x4 estate? No trade in but may want dealer finance. I know it's maybe a bit personal but if anyone has struck recent deals I'd be interested in your experiences. My local dealer quoted £16250. DTD is about £15.5 however maybe wrongly I am a bit wary about the broker route. Any thoughts. Thanks Graham
  17. I hate to say it but mine has just done the same today. It's also an SLXtdi 1999 with 130000. I had also just started looking at replacing it which is the most annoying thing cause Idont want the expense of fixing it. The needles drop to zero readings then go back to normal and fault is repeated then ok again etc. Any ideas?
  18. Skoda Approved Website prices for nearly new cars seem as much as new and more than brokers are quoting. What would you realistically expect to pay? What levels of discount have members achieved? Thanks
  19. This is slightly different but still shows an inherent lack of customer focus on the part of the dealer. A week ago now, on Skoda website I filled in online request for test drive of Octavia. Brochure arrived promptly (2days) One week on I still haven't had a call from the dealer to arrange a test drive. I've been toying with the idea of calling them but will wait and see when (if at all) I'm contacted. If the customer service is poor on sales then what must service be like? Not saying which dealer will wait. Chatam's Edinburgh you have a 4x4 don't you?
  20. there was an Irish guy competing in the Galloway Hills Rally this year in a Lada. Don't know what was under the bonnet probably a Fiat engine but he finished when about 1/3 of the 90 starters didn't he was not last either
  21. why should this be acceptable? Everyone harps on about the environment and sustainability surely longevity of consumer goods would be one way of improving this?
  22. got a quote from deans to supply & fit timing belt git to our Polo 1.9 Tdi 100bhp. Service manager told me that they had a special offer on price was reduced from
