  1. Local Asda and Tesco both have had closed forecourts for the last couple of days. Notices up saying they're waiting for deliveries - surely you'd order more if you could see that you were selling out faster than normal? Drove down to 'local' Shell station who only had optimax left, so filled up at 98p/litre. Not the cheapest fuel, but off to a wedding in Leicester tomorrow, so not going to get far with no fuel...
  2. Limited account versus an admin account (yours)?
  3. It's out now - think I'm going to install that today for the wedding snaps... http://gallery.menalto.com/
  4. If you'd rather mount your racing seat.....
  5. Col - try looking at the Open Source CMS website - they have reviews of blogs, portals, image galleries, etc, and run demo versions of each, allowing you to log in and have a play, without having to install the software yourself. Personally, I use textPattern or Etomite for blogging/CMS. Not sold on any image gallery yet, although I've tended to use Menalto, as I really didn't like coppermine. Need to install something to show our wedding photos, so will have to find something. I have a friend who uses this, which I really like, but you have to pay for it :(
  6. Looks good Unfortunately, SWMBO would kill me if I ordered something like that!
  7. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Startup This will show some software that will run when you start up. Right click on the program name and 'Delete' to remove it from the menu. For the other programs, click Start and then "Run..." - enter "regedit" and click "ok" Navigate through the options on the lefthand side to get to the following 'branch' of the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run All the entries shown on the righthand side show programs that will run when you start up. If you're sure you know which ones you want to remove, click the key name and hit your delete key... (Usual warning should go here about playing with the registry can screw your PC up, don't blame me, etc, etc )
  8. Something to do with European emissions laws, IIRC? i.e. it smoothes out the throttle action, meaning you get lots of acceleration lag... Really annoyed me when I first got my 1.4 16v (100bhp ) - although I soon got used to it... Downside is you get used to blipping the throttle before pulling off to avoid a stall - so switching to another car means lots of wheelspins
  9. It's a shame that people feel the need to rush down to their local station and buy all they can - just adds to the problem (people see queues and just *have* to join, increased demand means pumps run dry). At least if we have a repeat of last time, I'll be able to get fuel (goes off to look for NHS ID badge...)
  10. From my 400+ mile drive today, I'd say the fabia might lose out on initial acceleration (i.e. pulling away after crossing a roundabout) but at 50 or 60+ it would probably beat it. Had no probs keeping up with - and eventually passing - a 2.0 Golf GTi TDi thingy, and (mostly) kept up with a scooby once I got up to speed (he was leaving me standing)
  11. Thanks all We're staying at a lovely B&B in the Dumfries & Galloway area at the moment - there's a fair few things to see and do, and some absolutely cracking roads around here - swoopy bends, massive straights, no traffic and plenty of overtaking stretches for the occasional times you encounter traffic
  12. Nokia 6681... Calls & texting Photos & text to my blog via Flickr Watching divx movies with smartmovie Playing Frozen Bubble Alarm clock for waking me up every morning
  13. Always worth remembering that you can get "live CDs" - boot off them and you have a fully functioning linux distro to play with... (Got a great one for my laptop that is geared towards erm, security checks... )
  14. If he is in Nottingham, you could always offer to come and collect in person - see if that panics him into action?
  15. Next day delivery on expansys for a 20gb iPod - here (only using expansys as an example as I use them all the time - use Pricerunner or similar to shop around for prices)
  16. You've done the right thing in contacting the seller, although it sounds like the classic "sell someone an empty box" scam - in which case you may not get much help from the seller. Going down the avenue of ebay/paypal *may* help, although I don't think they're exactly well-known for bending over backwards to sort out problems like this. Try contacting your credit card company to see if you can do a chargeback - you've paid for something that then wasn't sent to you, after all.
  17. Or stick some movies on a memory stick and use a third-party player to watch them (PSP Video or something??)
  18. Spent half an hour or so earlier watching fox news - the pictures you see look more like Baghdad (empty streets, armed national guard in places, fires all over the place) than part of the world's most powerful country.
  19. Going to try and suggest to SWMBO that it would be a great wedding present from her to me, when we're out shopping tomorrow... Will have my best running shoes on...
  20. Lent my tomtom to someone a while back, and it came back with the complaint that "it didn't work". Upon closer inspection, it's clear that one of the connections on the RJ11 plug has broken - and I'm a bit stuck for how to get it fixed :( The only local general electronics shop (that I know does repairs) were helpful but didn't have the crimping tool needed to put a new plug on! Before I start trawling the yellow pages for networking companies, does anyone have any ideas? Going away on Sunday, and it would be rather helpful to have functioning satnav!
  21. What format are you trying to convert into? Some types of conversion do take hours, btw.... so it might seem like nothing's happening! Alternatively, look for a different player (if possible) for your phone/pda. Smart Movie plays back divX on symbian, smartphones and pdas. Got it installed on my nokia, and it's watchable...
  22. He's definitely far too "old skool" to start thinking about leading the tories - I would have thought someone younger would do wonders... rather than continually harping back to the Mrs T years...
