Do you feel mis sold on your mk4
I suppose you have tried changing the sensitivity as shown below (Advance warning - set to "Late") ? That improved it for me. When it goes off now it is usually justified. (Mine does not have the Swerve support or Cornering Brake function that are shown in this manual)

I should have said that although it often seems that the sound has gone on other occasions I heard the sound faintly. And the volume controls then had an effect but only to the extent of 0-100% of the maximum that had already been set. And it was always on starting the car. Not just first trip of the day but maybe after parking at the shops for half an hour. Actually it has not occurred for a few weeks now, but with the Covid situation here and also having another car I am not driving the Skoda as much. That icon of a person speaking sounds as if it is in the notification mode or the voice control mode and you are adjusting the level of the announcements, rather than the media or the navigation.

I have never tried that and it may also work but switching apps requires more concentration which is distracting. Even holding down the power button for 10 seconds is distracting. But I remember switching from Android Auto to the radio and finding the sound was still absent, even though the volume controls appeared to work in terms of the bars visible on the screen which could be adjusted from 50% to 100% with still no sound. And it was not a case of an accidental press of the Mute button either.

I have that too but I am not sure it is just Android Auto. While I mostly listen to music streaming through Android Auto I seem to recall that this applies equally to music playing through Bluetooth or radio stations. And the level of reduction in the volume seems variable. In any case the workaround is to do a full restart of the Infotainment system (hold down power button for 10 seconds) which, by the way, would not be restarting the Android Auto app in the phone. Of course I still hope that one day Skoda will issue a software update that cures this.

Aussie VRS drivers - 95 or 98 petrol?
That was interesting. A lot of it was news to me. It does make it plausible that here in Australia we might have a different situation that warranted a different response from owners in other countries. However, if it really was an issue I imagine that we would all get that advice more formally on taking delivery of our cars - an extra guide with the handbook, a sticker on the windscreen, or near the fuel filler. Since we do not, I think it is safe to follow the manufacturers recommendation and stick with 95, rather than taking the advice of a salesman. On the other hand, I do follow the advice given by the NRMA man who came to get me going when our other VW-group car conked out with a flat battery after less than 2 years. He blamed it on auto stop/start. So, in addition to just finding it annoying and a safety issue, I have an extra incentive to turn off auto start/stop on every trip. These batteries are much more expensive than those on my previous cars.

Aussie VRS drivers - 95 or 98 petrol?
Fellow Aussie here. I have an RS Wagon. I put 95 in it and it runs just fine. I have never done the experiment of putting 98 in to see if I can notice the difference.

Delivery times?
One day later I see only half the number of vehicles. It is down 60 in total now, 22 VRS, 20 of them VRS wagons. Must be some gremlins in that site. And I may have been mistaken about the demos. They probably did not have the Premium Pack which accounts for around $7000.
-
Delivery times?
There appears to have been a price increase here too. A car with the same spec as mine has increased from $60260 to $62590, i.e. by 3.8%, over 9 months. Compared with the idea of waiting months or even over a year that increase would not make me walk away.

Delivery times?
Here in Australia it is similar. If you are prepared to take a stock model there are 102 to choose from: https://stock-cars.skoda-auto.com/959/en-AU/?state=OK&aid=zu6di518-t05t-kjlu-u64l-owbqpwe2jray&or=www.google.com&step=filters&ModelFamily=NX_2021. There are even 40 vRS models, 37 of which are wagons, like mine. I see that some of them are demos, and unlike the situation a year ago, the demos are selling at a significant discount compared to the new cars.

Blank Screen?
I have not heard of anyone else here with the volume issue. It seems to be only my car. I mentioned it when I took the car in for a problem with the aircon but they were understaffed due to Covid and asked me to book separate visit. I haven't bothered, preferring to wait until the one year service in May. I have had other intermittent faults too, in satnav and reversing camera amongst others, but they are so rare that I doubt they could reproduce and fix them. We can only hope that one day a software release will occur that deals with intermittent issues as a whole.

Blank Screen?
I never move off without the screen fired up since I need to remove several pains in arses: auto start/stop, fake engine sound, lane assist. Which can mean waiting a minute or so. And only after that minute does it get Android Auto started up enough to restore the music and I can find out that it has decided to cut all volume by 90%, necessitating the full reboot. However, did you know you can turn off lane assist easily on the go by only two button presses on the steering wheel that you can easily do without looking down and taking your eyes off the road? On the right, press the Travel Assist button (top-left below), which displays the list of assist systems with Lane Assist at the top, and then press on the wheel (B) to uncheck it. That is all. The display will return to normal in a few seconds without further input. Edited: MCG1975: Seems we both replied at the same time with almost identical advice.

Blank Screen?
Most of us know that by now. Sorry you had to learn the hard way. Personally I have to do it on every second trip or so - just to get the sound volume to return to normal. I hope that one day Skoda will finally produce a stable software release. This reset wouldn't be so bad if it were faster and initiated by a momentary button-press. After all I start my computer and my phone from scratch each day too. But unfortunately it takes around a minute to return to normal and also requires initially holding that button down until the screen goes blank which takes 10 seconds of distraction from driving,

Skoda Connect app & web 🤦
Here in Australia the MySkoda app exists and we do not have to pay for it but it does basically nothing. 1. It can tell you where your nearest Service Partner is. 2. It has a trip planner which just seems to interface to Google Maps. 3. It can tell you your VIN 4. It can take you to the web page for the online version of the manual.

Cannot find DAB stations
DAB seems to require quite a strong signal so it is quite possible there were no receivable DAB stations where you were. I can receive DAB in the city but in outer urban or country areas I can only receive AM and FM.

Software
I did another trip today and a new issue occurred. It involves Android Auto but might or might not be AA's fault, just the Octavia. I was driving in the country, streaming music with Youtube Music when the music cut out. Ok, I thought, we are out of signal range. So I waited until I was back in a a built-up area but the music never came back. I looked at the screen and YT Music claimed it was offline. Yet the status bar indicated 4 bars of 4G reception. Picking up the phone I was able to do internet searches etc so there was obviously a signal. So I rebooted the Octavia's Infotainment system and, of course, YT Music started playing again. Maybe it's a YT Music thing? The UI said "Offline" but there was no control that would let me go back online. You would think that even with a signal you could choose to be online or not. The phone is a Google Pixel 3a. The connection was wired with the phone in the tray in the console, so accessing the car's aerial.

Software
My most common problem, which occurs one in every 3 or 4 trips, is with the sound volume. Occurs whether using inbuilt radio or media, or using Android Audio media playback. The actual sound volume reduces to 0% to 20% of what it is set to. Adjusting the volume controls is not sufficient to make up for the loss. Rebooting the Infotainment system cures it every time. And today, as well as that on the outbound trip, on the return trip with Android Auto playing the sound suddenly disappeared from the car speakers and started playing on the phone itself. I have had other but less frequent faults, in the SatNav and the reversing camera. Each time rebooting the Infotainment system cures them. I have had other faults cured by taking the car in but they never cure these and I am not going to bother taking it in again just for these, annoying as they are. I will include them in the list for the 12 month service in 4 months time. Maybe there will be a better software version by then. VRS Wagon, built April 2021, delivered end May 2021, 3950 kms as of 27-Jan-22. Software rev 1803.

No cool air - faulty flap?
After a 4 week delay due to Christmas + New Year I was able to get Skoda to look at this last week and they found a loose cable that was fouling the flap that redirects the air. They fixed this - under warranty of course - and now the aircon works great.

ACC problem - can it have gone away?
I use that setting and on my vehicle it is retained so it is not one of those annoying "revert by design" settings such as A/C Sync, or Auto start/stop, or driving mode, or lane guidance...

Phone contacts sync
It is probably not relevant but I recently found I could not get my contacts to sync at all, although they used to do so. Eventually I found there was a security setting that must have been added recently to the Android system that withheld permission for the car's Bluetooth connection to read the contacts. It was easy then to turn off that feature.

Adaptive Lane Guidance Adaptation?
I said "all RS models here have it". I am in Australia. My car has it and the Australian brochure that was current at the time, May 2021, says it is fitted to all RS's. I realize that it is optional, or possibly not available, in other countries. And I would add to my observation above that "it wanders about in the lane" to say that I cannot bring myself to trust it not to make a mistake and steer me out of the lane. Or to take into account traffic, including large trucks, in adjacent lanes, that might encroach on my lane. I will never use it. I cannot see why this technology exists. Staying in lane is something that any experienced driver has mastered and takes no effort. I am thankful it is not enabled by default. It is bad enough that the Lane Assist with its steering wheel vibrations is enabled by default and needs to be disabled with two presses of steering wheel buttons each time it becomes annoying. On the other hand Adaptive Cruise Control has been an incredible help. In the past with regular cruise control I was constantly monitoring the separation to the car in front and adjusting the speed setting to ensure I would not get too close to, or run into, the car in front. And, just as frequently, using the brakes to achieve that goal, or to avoid exceeding the speed limit on downhill sections of road. Now all of that is no longer necessary. And just as useful is the Heads-up display. I basically can now ignore the incredibly busy virtual cockpit and concentrate on the essentials without taking my eyes off the road.
-
Adaptive Lane Guidance Adaptation?
All RS models here have it, including mine. It is activated by a button on the top-right of the steering wheel. I found it seemed to wander around in the lane and was disconcerting. I have never used it since.

KESSY functionality on mk4 Octavia
When I said "cheap" I was not referring to those from the bargain shops. Even the best ones only cost 4-5 dollars which is peanuts compared to most aspects of running a car.
