Smoking 1.6 engine
That suggests coolant perhaps by colour and smell. That could be a variety and mix of things. Plenty of threads and posts here on head, gasket failure, engine stuff and sorting issues. Not really, I've no idea of correct new engine figures but you don't get them in a standard used old engine but you want some sort of consistency of your test method and with he figures between cylinders with perhaps IIRC a variation of only up to about 10% for age and use. Others know lots more than the very little I ever knew or can remember and certainly about the model and their engines. Main issue nowadays is getting any decent modern made new parts (many can be crap straight out of the box/packet) or s/h parts but again the others will be able to advise on this. Good luck.

Issues with Key after battery replacement
Just picked up one of the working remotes this morning and realise that white bit would be the red conformation light, wasn't even using the remote just putting the keys back in their place, some days and seconds of the say my brain is better than for the rest of the time. Also whilst looking for the quote above I noticed the typos in this and double-word error, should read - ... or the panel for the three push buttons as there's another flexible plastic diaphragm under there anyway. You probably already knew that but just to clarify for future, teach the AI.😆

Issues with Key after battery replacement
Sorry I'm lost now as you seem to have two different fobs my wife's car only came with two flick-out keyblade fobs and I assumed that was the way for all. Bear in mind I have taken my fob apart (ETA: before) but can't remember exactly what I done (other than not being able to fit a spring as possibly I didn't see a second roll pin or the springs proper location and fitment - Sod's Law springs will spring out before you can see where from, and often get lost). When I took the key apart this time there was nothing under the text label (but there again this fob didn't have a label(!??!). The board I have (for the flick-out keyblade remote) looks to me the same as yours and to me it doesn't look like there's anything missing on yours or mine from that side of the board but I know nothing about electronics and I have poor quality eyes (and brain) (I broke off the speaker wire connection on my 2003 DAB radio and can't see on the board where the connection might have been and have to use the additional external plug in speaker to get one-channel stereo). BTW the (internal) spring for the flip button has a foot at one end only and needs correct location so keep all bits in order and orientation if you remove them (or like me more often drop or knock them to the floor). If want or need you could take a photo of the other side of the flick-out remote board and I'll see if there are any difference(s) to the one I have.

Škoda Ensurance
Accident repair and all that's associated with it is a money rolling and making exercise with so many fingers in the pie (possibly up to something like 12 so I've heard on national radio). I'd never heard of Škoda Ensurance and assumed it was a typo but on having a quick look I did notice "We’re making some important updates to our free Ensurance service. Any policies with a start date on or after 18th November 2025 will include the following changes: . . .". And "Ensurance from Škoda Financial Services is sold and administered by Lawshield UK Limited and underwritten by UK General Insurance Limited on behalf of Watford Insurance Company Europe Limited." I think the likes of @DAN@ADRIAN FLUX and @ChrisKnottIns are best to comment and advise on this, if they want to or allowed, bearing in mind they have a finger in the pie(s). Fabia Mk3 (2017) - What A Carry On - Headlight Bulb
I can't help with headlight bulbs but the (halogen) daylight running lights bulb change is enough of a PITA and wrist for me, but that's modern cars, you have to(?) have so much stuff on them going here, there and everywhere that there's no servicing space left. My last (everyday) car was from 1973 so it didn't have many of the modern "necessities" (and not that much that was around in 1973) so things were , er, different to my wife's 2015 Fabia. I do wonder why you've had to replace so many bulbs on a 2017 car. If you have bought off the shelf standard bulbs from many of the suppliers and manufacturers many are crap out of the box or packet so wouldn't last as long as factory originals or better made bulbs. The bulb holds fitting to the lenses units are a great design unless fitting on a bench. You wouldn't like the even more modern light units. With a 2017 car you are at the very edge of PITA and expense for what used to be reasonable price and easy.

Hi from Greece
Hi, welcome. You probably already know but in case not, as well as other sections and forums on Briskoda there is a Roomster section. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/172-%C5%A1koda-roomster/

Fabia MK3 - Internal lighting LED bulb upgrade options?
If I was you I would ask Classic Car LEDs Ltd and get your bulbs from there as they don't use cheap rubbish and are happy to advise and help where they can. Generally avoiding the superbright stuff helps with canbus but of course VW are different to others in this and other stuff as you may have already discovered, gawd bless their cotton socks, "German engineering quality". 😄😄😄 HTH. Classic Car LEDs Ltd. - https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/ ETA: Warm white for more traditional colour and bright white for the more modern stark blueish light. Red bulbs behind red lenes, amber bulbs behind amber lenses, etc..

Fabia monte carlo 2023 air recirculation
What makes you think an average 49mpg isn't good for a 1.0, 3-cylinder, turbo Monte Carlo version of the (modern, heavy) Fabia Mk4, what are you comparing it with, did you have the car at this time of year last year or before under same driving use and conditions to compare against?

Hello from Spain rs 1u2
No problem (as we say here). I missed you had a 2002 Octavia, looks good too, and I am not VWŠkoda fan. 2002 will be from the time when VW cars were better designed and built to later years, look after it as later cars also have more things on them to even further remove a driver from driving and, as often, found to go wrong. Good luck. Škoda Octavia section of Briskoda. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/169-%C5%A1koda-octavia/

Hello from Spain rs 1u2
Hi, welcome. As this is a UK based site, but with owners posting from other parts of the world, we post in English. I hope the following Google translation is correct. - Hello from Spain. I came across Briskoda through internet searches because I'm trying to install genuine xenon headlights on my RS 1U2 to replace my old halogen ones. I'll search the forum to see if there's a thread about it. Have a look and/or ask in the model and year section for your car and see what advice and experience the owners there have. Good luck.

Issues with Key after battery replacement
ETA: zooming in on your low-res GIF I think I can see a second spring for the keyblade so perhaps it was that I couldn't locate and/or a second roll-pin, or both. As you have/will discover you don't need to remove the wunderbar fantastic-plastic Škoda symbol on the remote or the the panel for the three push buttons (pegs) as there's another diagram(?) under them anyway. Part from the opposite side to the buttons.
-
Issues with Key after battery replacement
Yeah the second pin must be the bit I lost or couldn't lock last time, I forget, if you loose that you can still operate the fold and unfold of the keyblade but you might need fingernails wot I don't not 'ave much of. I've just took the spare apart and it was easy (perhaps missing the second roll -pin helps?) I think I pushed on the blade release button and this put enough pressure on the spring under it to show up where the two bit of VW wunderbar fantastic-plastic can be parted using a small (but not tiny or precision blade) blade screwdriver. The board comes out easy (in one piece / not broken). Whether the bit you want is the white bit on the reverse side to battery I don't know. If you want I can (try to) take photos of both sides of the board in case things are different between our remotes.

Issues with Key after battery replacement
I'm pretty sure (but not certain because I can't remember) the back comes off as when I took one apart I lost the spring or spring out effect for the keyblade but like you I want to keep, the much more reliable mechanical, keyblade but I might have a go for you after tea/dinner.

How do I switch off my heated seat??
Not a VWŠkoda Dealership I hope as they seem to often try to wriggle out of it, especially if they see an after market seat heater has been added (even though it was on there when they sold it to you, and more so more if they find out it's been left on pulling the battery down. If under warranty you get a new battery (they 'code' it in too) that saves you a good few pennies and you start with a new battery. First thing I'd do out of warranty is remove that seat heater.

Skoda Felicia door seal problem?
After poking out all the rain-drop holes with a plastic cable-tie to check all are clear at exit point I think you might need to take the door card off to see if the drains are not blocked or partially blocked or channels are going correctly, or any seals breached or broken down with age. Fabias have internal leaks on the back doors that bring water in to the rear footwell(s), a known issue from Mk1 Fabia to Mk3 at least - German design and build quality.🙄

How do I switch off my heated seat??
Just in case you've not got a printed paper copy of the 'Owner's Manual' and don't already know or forgot you can get a free VWŠkoda pdf download from the VWŠkoda Owner's Manual site. - https://www.skoda-auto.com/apps/manuals/Models Do bear in mind 12v battery use during winter, and hot summer, and consider the use of an appropriate charger maintainer if you have heavy battery use and/or lots of short journeys.

Electrics issue: The buttons on my steering wheel have stopped working and headlights auto switch is stuck.
Might do, it depends on how thorough and correct the diagnostics were to get to this conclusion, rather than change an expensive part and see if that sorts it. The connections, communication and wiring need to have been checked and confirmed both ends not to have fault(s) instead (or perhaps as well as) the j519 . You'd need a wiring diagram for your car to confirm what's where and what does what and what's in-between them. Then would you replace it with new, used or repaired or get it repaired (or checked). You also need to check if there's a reason for it being faulty other than it being a faulty VW part. If you have someone knowledgeable and trustworthy doing the diagnostics and work then they will be able to inform and advise you. Good luck.

Kamiq Start Stop Issues
Saying it could be at fault suggest at least incomplete diagnostics. To me it sounds like they might just happy to fire of the parts cannon at your expense. Wouldn't there be warning lights or messages if the telematics battery was faulty? Or perhaps error codes or other diagnostics evidence. Have they or you consulted VWŠkoda UK to see if there are known problems for this 12v battery for your model and/or age of VWŠkoda - thought often it seems the VWŠkoda and the Dealerships deny known problems anyway. I remember a thread on Briskoda where IIRC a member changed some sort of back up himself on some model if I can remember or find it I'll post a link for you here. Unless I've had yet another brain-fart, here from a very quick Google search, the following video was second in list and I give it just as an example to give you a general idea (ETA: of someone doing so diagnostics at least, note I stopped looking at the video at that point). - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRMd8SZ0DBg

Skoda Felicia with a Flip key?
Yes of course, we have a lot to thank some stupid Americans for. I remember getting a brand new car in 1999 and reading the handbook, a third of it was safety warnings many to cater for the very dim, it almost had text and drawing for something like don't put you head under a wheel a let someone drive over it, I couldn't believe it I could understands it perhaps for the litigation obsessed American market but I can't remember that we were at that time so much into blaming others for the lack of self-responsibility. After a certain time it will be cheaper for the car manufacturers to always fit an electronic handbrake than offer the 'traditional' longer lasting mechanical version. Going back can be expensive such as fitting manual wind-up windows instead of (the absolutely marvellous, must have) electric windows demanded by certain market(?), no idea if this still happens in 2025. I did see even the great German engineers of VW are going back from some of the gimmicks they put on in more recent years, probably already researched low costing and quality plastics for these parts, making hay on the "travelling" and "entertainment" expenses accounts before everything clams up at VW and its groups (except executive and perhaps management "expenses" of course).

Skoda Felicia with a Flip key?
Electronic handbrake was possibly both a money saving and money creating, manual handbrakes can last many years and even decades with just usual brake adjustment (unless they're designed badly like on my wife's previous car whereas electronic are not as long lasting and more expense and generally haste to sort. A neighbour's new in 2023 Nissan Cashcow had the electronic handbrake fail to come off so he had to be recovered and it was horrible to operate particularly in a manual gearbox car. Don't get me goin' on modern cars unnecessary 'features' and "assists" . . . 😄

Skoda Felicia with a Flip key?
Go on then, get on with it! 😁 For me personally you can do whatever you like with your car (long as it's legal obviously) - but the advantage of older cars is their lack of too many unnecessarily complications - and as my wife's VWŠkoda 2015 Fabia Mk3, not counting the remote fob, only has and electric button for releasing the hatch door and the button part isn't currently working so the remote fob has to be used I wish it had fully mechanical over any electric. O/T warning But then I prefer a keyblade over a remote fob and manual wind up windows to electric windows, I'd have to strip out D.Fylaktos car a lot if I had it. 😁 And can I say how good you're looking in that photo.

Buying advice: First car, Octavia estate.
Hi, welcome. If you are set on buying an Octavia estate then, in case you've not already seen, there are the various model years forums on this site where there will be knowledgeable and experienced owners of those models able to give you advice and knowledge, and, unless "fan-boys", real warts 'n' all information. - Škoda Octavia section. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/169-%C5%A1koda-octavia/ Strange though it might sound looking at the 'Owner's Manuals' before test driving or considering buying a car can be very helpful, also very helpful through all stages of ownership to help avoid unnecessary visits to garages, mechanics and auto-electricians. The manuals are available free as pdf downloads from the VWŠkoda owners manual website. - https://www.skoda-auto.com/apps/manuals/Models Personally I would look at older models in good condition for the money but as you're in your mid-30s you may want the more up to date stuff in the car (and more to, and can, play up), also depends on your driving experience, if you have little then it's more likely that you may have dinks, bumps and accidents (hence the higher insurance premiums) and less real experience of driver maintenance and servicing maintenance of the car. The shorter trips will cause more wear on some systems, components and parts than the longer trips, hence a higher mileage car often possibly a better buy than a low mileage car. With German marques in particular, like VW, and more so with their stop/start I more so than usual suggest you check and have the 12v battery in a good state of charge and health and keep it that way. Sometimes/often just driving the car may not be sufficient for long term reliable use of the battery particularly as the stop/start system charges to only 80% so occasional as required recharges using an appropriate battery charger maintainer, following the instructions from the car's 'Owner's Manual' and for charger, are required. Otherwise the battery can get too low for the car's computer systems and they can throw up all sorts of unexpected issues, warnings and unseen error codes. This can happen even though the headlights seem bright enough and well, well before the engine has difficulty or wont start, the engine not starting often means the battery is very low indeed. Lots and lots of threads about this on Briskoda from those that don't know or realise about about this. Batteries can go low in summer as well as winter. A point of view you're very unlikely to encounter elsewhere on the site, personally I'd probably never buy a VW product (unless it was a something last century Golf Mk1 GTi) but instead buy an older better non-German marque, usually Japanese or possibly Korean if well looked after, even French. If you need general advice on first car purchase and initial running there are threads and posts in various models sections on Briskoda, whilst the detailed specifics may vary from model to model, though many share same VW engines, VW gearboxes and other stuff obviously, the basics remain the same regardless of marque, model and great extent year. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Skoda Felicia with a Flip key?
If that's so you have changed your tune from previously (the video you put up). You miss my point about your driving and attitude. In your post you put up a few red flags for me (and perhaps others) of your pre-incident driving, then perhaps just pre-incident but I don't know as I wasn't there, I was just going on your posts now and on all your previous posts, videos and attitude. Perhaps this near miss has woken you up a bit but not fully opened you up. It's boring for others to see the arguing as has been stated before and as you know from the past if anyone wants to argue I can continue - if you really want to learn what I mean, to no doubt argue against, dismiss or deny to me and yourself you can send me a direct/private message through this site, I'm not as blunt and as off-hand as your former mate here but I will let you know without feeling inferior to you or allowing you to make me feel inferior to you because you study engineering and I certainly wouldn't have at your age, but my wit and repartee has diminished since then. PM me if you but let it go on here. Cheers (as you have been in England you know calling someone "my friend" can be often viewed as condescending but I realise this is not the case in other lands).

Weird image on console display and can't navigate through options
Yes I was aware Gav3rdfabia was aware of the image and wated rid, in the Scala thread the image was speculated about even by other model owners, as with here my usual suggestion of referring to the 'Owner's Manual' sorts both. Unlike you and I some others don't like or want to look at such sources of information and despise such and scorn others for doing so, and suggesting so. The "virtual cockpit" (what a silly and inaccurate name/description) doesn't (thank gawd) in my wife's 2015 Mk3 Fabia so I do know of the 'joys' of relationships between infotainment screen, dot display and steering wheel knob-wheels. One of the good things about computers and their programs is that there can different methods and routes of achieving the same outcome, getting the display you want so once you can remember it you can pick the method and rote that suits you best. I understand that some car manufacturers have finally caught on that they don't need to have so many different touch virtual buttons for every obscure !"feature2 they can think of and some have even reintroduced real control knobs and buttons again instead - whatever will they (re)think of next - whatever their Chinese owners tell them I expect. 😁
