Agreed, but in an auto, the only way to engage the stop/start feature is to keep your foot on the brake.

Worth bearing in mind that these days toners supplied with new printers are often low capacity ones capable of barely 1000 pages or so to keep the printer cost down. I have an HP Laserjet Pro 200 that came with low fill toners and I'm just about to replace the black toner for the first time after approx 900 pages. The replacement was £55 and is reckoned to be capable of 2400 pages of print. Whilst HP's print utility has been complaining for some time about the low black toner, there seems to be no loss of print quality and I haven't even got round to removing it and giving it a shake (usually yields another 100 pages or so). Overall I'm very pleased with this printer as it also does scanning and copying so negating the need to replace my ancient (and not supported after Win XP) HP Scanjet.

Just thought I'd post a few photos of our TSi 90 SE-L in race blue collected today. The car is for our daughter and she drove it home from the dealer and then on to Uni. From a passengers point of view I was very impressed: smooth ride, assured road manners, perky performance (particularly compared to previous 03 Fiesta 1.4) and nice seats and interior. http://

ACT150 1.4tsi Golf, A3, Leon SC or BMW120 Xdrive?
jlwah replied to loskie's topic in General Automotive Chat
I'm on my second Polo BGT with the 150hp ACT engine and average around mid to high 40's depending on how much town driving I'm doing. I have seen high 60's on a very pedestrian drive on the motorway, but generally manage low to mid 50's on a long run at normal speeds. -
Whilst not as bad as other posters have stated, I also suffered from bouts of sciatica from my late teens on. Only occasionally was it bad enough to keep me in bed for a day or two, but annoying all the same. At the time the perceived wisdom was that a firm mattress was required to ease the condition and we duly bought an orthopaedic mattress, partly as a preventative measure. The wife always complained that it was too firm (stop s******ing, it was the mattress she was complaining about!) and partly as a consequence of this the mattress never really wore out. But about 5 years ago I was regularly having reflexology and during one session when I had mentioned having a bad back the reflexologist asked about our bed. Anyway, as a consequence of that we investigated new mattresses and ended up with a decent quality medium sprung mattress that has all but eliminated my back issues! Not suggesting this is a remedy for the worst of conditions, but might be worth a look if you haven't changed your bed/mattress for some time.

Damn!! I had filled in all the wife's details too!!

Colin Chapman's philosophy at Lotus racing was "simplify, then add lightness". Unfortunately the EU way is add complexity and regulations that make cars heavier. Add the drive (excuse the pun) for ever decreasing emissions and it's easy to see why manufacturers look for other ways to improve their cars environmental performance. I'm actually quite impressed that VW used this 'cheat' technology to improve their cars ratings - shows thinking outside the box. Having said that, I notice that car sales figures due out today suggest that VW sales are down 8% in the UK for last month, so bigger discounts are (hopefully) on the way. Which is a bit annoying seeing as I've ordered a new Fabia for my daughter, but then we will probably be replacing one or two cars next year so may benefit then.

I listened to the Bedfordshire police chiefs interview on R4 this morning and I thought his gripe sounded like a political one. He doesn't like the government and uses stunts like this to get his point across. Whilst I don't know the specifics of the calculations used to calculate the police settlements moving forward, the fact that some forces will see an increase from current levels suggest that they are currently more under resourced than Bedfordshire where the settlement is set to be the same as it is now. I think his stance is ill conceived as well, as if they, say, lower the limit at which a ticket is triggered and/or leave cameras on 24 hours on the M1, the likely public outcry will be against the police and not the government. It also diminishes the claim that speed cameras are to reduce accidents and not to raise revenue and keeping the public 'on board' on issues like this is vital for public confidence in policing.

Thanks for that. Our Fabia was built 3rd September so definitely a MY16.

Can the VIN be used to check model year? I have that shown on the dealers order form (also have an eight digit stock number, if that's any better). We're getting a 90 TSi SE L in a couple of weeks that was a stock car at Emden, but would also like to know about Smartlink.

Always a valid statement when discussing Bond
-
Yep, you've clearly not watched it enough!! Get viewing, eventually you'll join the Darkside
-
I enjoyed it, but I always reserve judgement on any new Bond film until I've seen it a few times, as my views after a 3rd or 4th viewing often aren't what I thought after the first viewing. Hence I seem to be in a minority of one in liking QoS a lot! And lowering my opinions on Skyfall.

I know there has been talk in the past about scraping the change in the clocks, but it always gets slammed (particularly by those north of the border), but it occurs to me, that a sensible compromise could be had if we delayed turning the clocks back by a month (e.g. 21st November) and bringing them forward a month earlier (e.g. 28th February 2016). So instead of 7 months BST, we would have 9 instead. This would surely be a sensible compromise between those that hate the dark afternoons (me!) and those that want lighter mornings? Thoughts please, then we can mount a campaign!!

New Fabia on PCP? Free year of insurance!
jlwah replied to jonboyuk's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021)
Just a small point, but the free insurance is only available to drivers over 21. We're about to order a new SE L 90 for my daughter who's just turned 20, so no free insurance for her. I'm currently on my 2nd Polo B GT after the dealer mucked up the first order and as it took 5 months for the replacement to arrive, I will have had 17 months free insurance on the Polo! I even managed to have my (19 year old) daughter on the insurance for 2½ weeks until they realised that she was only 19. I had given them all her details and they sent me through a certificate with her as a named driver, but due to a query over NCB they got back in touch and said they would have to remove her. Ah well, she enjoyed the opportunities she had to drive a new B GT whilst it lasted. -
Trouble is, where else will he go?

Who will be Labours leader for the 2025 election?
jlwah replied to jlwah's topic in The Roadside Hotel
As usual, your hyperbole is wide of the mark. Thankfully the national debt has only doubled, it would have trebled under Labour (and it will be worse, much worse, if Corbyn ever got elected). Far from being wrecked the NHS is slowly changing from being an economic sponge that soaks up any amount of public funds with little corresponding improvement in performance and as for state education, the changes taking place are genuinely improving the opportunities of those from poorer backgrounds by removing the shackles of local education authorities mantra of educating to the lowest common denominator. It's a shame that the government won't back the creation of more grammar schools which truly offered the poor a way out low living standards, but you can't have everything. That 'draw' that the left is putting up has amply been demonstrated by Corbyn having the worst ever (1st time) Labour leader approval ratings (https://www.ipsos-mori.com/researchpublications/researcharchive/3626/Corbyn-seen-as-more-honest-than-most-politicians-but-Cameron-leads-on-other-PM-attributes.aspx) and this is during what would normally be termed his 'honeymoon' period. Even if the whole country joined the Labour party, he still wouldn't win an election! And one Lib Dem councillor defection will hardly get anyone excited, particularly as it's more than likely that there will be MP's heading in the opposite direction or even defecting to the Conservatives. Labour will be little more than a party of protest for the best part of 10 years. It is a shame as they are neglecting their duty as the official party of opposition, to properly and intelligently hold the government to account as they indulge their 'loony left' with Marxist navel gazing. -

jlwah replied to jlwah's topic in The Roadside Hotel
Again, maybe Ashcroft is wrong? Outside the Westminster bubble, this sort of issue is irrelevant to voters. Labours shambolic election result and their subsequent election of an un-electable leader has left them (and their followers) desperately clutching at straws. -
With all the hyperbole out there over this emissions saga I can see it becoming the latest 'PPI' scandal to keep all those greedy lawyers busy for the next 10 years! Guess it makes up for the cut in the legal aid budget.

jlwah replied to jlwah's topic in The Roadside Hotel
Perhaps because it didn't happen? It's a complete irrelevance and most normal thinking people think it reflects worse on Ashcroft than Cameron. Things just starting to filter our on Corbyn now and there's probably plenty more to come that Labour backbenchers can get their teeth into to topple their new leader with. Remember, its your enemies that sit behind you in parliament.
