  1. Update. Had a brain fart, apologies. Use my trolley jack and measure distance from centre of hub to wheel arch, then torque.
  2. Evening. I am replacing the rear struts at the weekend, weather permitting. My question is, is it ok to torque the bolts whilst the car is still on its axle stands and not in the loaded position, like the the control arm bolts, when I replaced the springs, I cannot see how to do it when the wheels are back on? Is there a way to mimick load/compression? Have drop links to do at the same time, if I have time. Any advice welcome.
  3. They transferred my 1 month old Michelin CrossClimate 3s. Have to use all Weather up here. Place I got the wheels from do not provide rubber. Some UK sites do, but my alloys were £400 cheaper direct from Germany.
  4. Thank you. Not the best pic though. £620 delivered to Skye, took a bit of time to leave Germany, but 3 days once they were despatched. Very well packaged also.
  5. Good afternoon. Just had my new wheels fitted. Borbet N in Crystal Silver, 18, 7.5j, et41. Got a price from Skoda for new Themisto's, nearly fell over. These 4 delivered from Germany were cheaper than one new Themisto. And they sustainable allegedly, made from recycled alloys. Lighter per wheel, but not had a chance to feel any difference, if any. Very happy with the look and stance.
  6. Anybody know if an 8j wheel fits our Superbs please. Clear everything still and zero rubbing at full lock? Ta.
  7. Hmmmm, is a possibility I could look at. Cheers.
  8. Exactly. Its the best place on earth, but about as convenient as Point Nemo sometimes.
  9. Appreciate the advice mate. Bit of a trek from here though.
  10. Thanks Tazman. My nearest, 100 miles away. Want the car for two days at £609 inc vat. Plus two nights in a hotel. Not very viable sadly. Cheaper to buy online and my nearest tyre fitter is £30 per wheel to swap over.
  11. The do an 18 with my specs, just an ET38, am sure they would not rub compared to et46. Audi S line have an ET51, and look great in Grey. The price of new Themisto's is outrageous considering their 14 year age!
  12. Exactly. Cant be having leaks with brand new tyres. 99% going for the Vega, silver car, gunmetal grey, should work.
  13. My rear offside loses 5 psi a week, brand new tyres and valves. I have but weighing the cost and utter hassle due to location, Ebay or any wheel place with delivery, seems cheaper.
  14. Evening. My 14 year old Themisto wheels are very tatty and flaking so am thinking of buying new ones. I like the Vega Anthracite ones, my car is Silver, nice modern look. My question is mine are ET46 and the Vega's are ET38, any big issues please? Rubbing etc? Thank you.
  15. Did not think the latch has any adjustment, the t30 bolts have zero give.
  16. It closes great, its opens also, just a lot stiffer than before. Latch had a whole can of brake cleaner on it. Thought a new cable would make it easier is all. Routed it the best I could. No advice on that sadly.
  17. Thank you. My secondary safety catch is fine, clean and greased. My bonnet release is stiff with hardly any travel to open. Is this normal with a new Bowden installed?
  18. Evening. Can anyone advise on bonnet alignment please? Its a couple of mm low on both sides, think its affecting the latch release, rather stiff. Rubber bungs on each side look ok, although they may have lost density over the years? Had a lot of snow thaw off the roof and land on it, sat overnight, may have been the cause!
  19. Evening. Help needed please. My new bonnet cable arrived today. Can someone please advise or take pics of the routing from the latch to the junction box? My current snipped one is hanging down and zip tied to the grill. It was removed before I could see the route. I need to get it right for tension etc. I really need to end this 4 week saga. Many thanks Graham
  20. Thank you. I need a favour please. Can someone send me a pic of the cable routing from the latch to the junction box please? My current one is now zip tied to the grill direct from the latch so I can use pliers until the new cable arrives next week. Part of the opening process involved slightly tearing the black housing whilst yanking it down blindly. Dont ask. Many thanks. Graham.
  21. Evening all. Quick update. My bonnet is now open, a very cold, difficult 2 hours, will not bore you all, but if it happens to you, please message me. Dont go under the car or through the wheel arch, impossible. Just wanted to say, there is a junction box, little thin black plastic box attached to the underside of the cover/tray opposite the airbox, held on by two silver clips. The two bonnet cables meet there, one from the release lever, the other from the latch, the latter pops out under stress from a clogged latch or the plastic pops open, combination of both over time. Please zip tie it shut the next time you are under the bonnet! Cannot stress this enough. And clean and grease your latch. Also grease the cable before you zip tie it. Huge design fault by VW., a zip tie would have saved me hours of grief and stress. Looks like below, from a Golf I think. Ours is on the passenger side. Any advice, please ask. Graham.
  22. I have tried that. I get the feeling once its open, the problem will be very obvious indeed. Does not feel snapped at the handle end. Think the cable has either come loose at the junction box, or stuck latch. Both extremely easy fix. If its stretched I will add washers to adjust the length. Very frustrating issue though, had cars since I was 17, never had a stuck bonnet.
  23. Update. Skoda want £144 per hour plus diagnostic, without parts, first available slot, 18th Feb! Roads will have new grit next week and not rained in 6 days. Looks like crowbar time. Poxy bonnet.
  24. Hi there. On the mk2 the grill is half covered and not accessible. Saw a YouTube video on my model but it looks really awkward and you are totally blind, without knowing exactly where the catch is you need to push/pull, it looks impossible. Bloke said it took 5 minutes all in, but he already had the bonnet open for the video, highly edited. Was hoping, as I hear its a common issue, that someone on here has achieved the task without taking an angle grinder to it. My model has a very long bonnet, and a big area from grill to mechanism, so a long screwdriver would not even do it, if I wedged the bonnet up a bit with wood. Ho hum.
  25. Morning all. I have still not had any luck opening my bonnet, will be getting very low on washer fluid due to the heavily gritted roads here. Has anybody had the same issue please? Local dealer has a 3 week wait.
