  1. Thanks for the information. Normally the commute is long enough to drop the soot from what monitoring I have done with the VagDPF app (And I could always go out for a long leisure drive to clean it up if I need to). I was more concerned about the ash level and wanted to check if the current level is normal or not.
  2. Hello folks. Just looking for general advice on the oil ash and soot levels in the DPF on my Octavia VRS TDI. It's got 57k miles on the clock as of writing. I usually do commutes to work around every weekend and some mid week lasting around half an hour, mostly on the motorway. Attached a screenshot of the obdeleven live data readout taken a few days ago. So far no troubles, touch wood, metal, tarmac and any other materials. At what point do I need to start worrying about needing a replacement DPF or clean? Many thanks.
  3. Yes you can use OBDEleven for long coding. It does require you to use different screens compared to the VCDS software. Also the History log is fiddly to use to restore previous settings IMHO but it is possible to revert things back.
  4. I have an OBDEleven unit. I can say for the basics it works pretty well. If you do more serious work on VW group cars, maybe better to invest in a VCDS interface.
  5. I don't know if the power draw in your dashcam is a problem. If it helps for recommendations, I've got a Viofo A129 Plus Duo with their own hardwire kit and haven't had problems with stop start. I know that it isn't the discrete mirror option like that one you are using, but it if is of any consolation, it is a fairly small.
  6. Regarding my set up, forgot to mention that I also have a parking mode in the Dashcam and it is connected to the rear windscreen wiper fuse position as a switched power output as well. The hardwire kit has a voltage cut out as well to prevent draining the battery too low. Back to your problem. It does sound like the Dashcam itself isn't agreeing with the vehicle electrics. Have you tried a different hardware kit or if not, a different Dashcam might be the solution. What model of camera are you using? Does it have any firmware updates available for it? Might be worth searching the Internet to see if anyone else has run into similar problems with the same model.
  7. Might be a problem with the Dashcam itself. Which fuse position did you hardware the cam into? I personally used the fuse position for 12 volt socket and didn't have any problems with the stop start except when I drive off for the first few minutes when demand is a bit higher.
  8. Seems all the online only car sellers have their issues. My Octy VRS was purchased from Cinch. I know it might be a gamble but trying to find the exact spec I wanted locally was a bit tricky. Intention was to return the car the moment anything major popped up. Nearly walked away from the sale when they messed up on the delivery date. Thankfully all went well and even got a full tank of fuel as a goodwill gesture for the trouble. Long story short, don't feel afraid to (Politely, but firmly) complain if you find anything wrong with an online car purchase. Or vote with your feet and wallet if it is really bad.
  9. If theft is a concern, perhaps one of those anti theft vehicle tracking devices/services?
  10. Yeah it as a brand new sealed boot handle, from the parts department of a big name dealer who won't be named here but you can guess. And this was apparently after a discount because the mechanic was signed up to some sort of loyalty membership for trade customers. I probably could have found a cheaper boot release on a certain auction site but there is the lingering risk of it being faulty as well. I may have been unlucky. Your mileage may vary.
  11. Having just had the same problem and paid about £140 plus VAT, I would dispute that. 🤣 However second hard parts from a breaker can be suspect so bear that in mind.
  12. Many thanks everyone. I managed to get HBA activated on my car, along with a few other adaptations of interest. Had some problems because I was using OBDEleven rather than VCDS but the instructions are pretty much the same, just needed to get to grips with the app interface which has things laid out differently. But we got there in the end.
  13. Looking at enabling this adaptation as well. From what I read on these forums, seems to be some confusion over the maxidot display. Does it matter if you have the colour or the black and white maxidot display for TSR to work properly and to avoid errors popping up in use. I have a Octavia VRS with MIB2.5 Amundsen and the lane assist camera and seems to be capable of HBA which I will enable at some point as well.
  14. Fair enough. Thanks for the insight. It does feel a bit odd that you can relatively easily enable this option when it probably would have cost quite a bit to have it factory/dealer enabled. I will have a look into it myself when I have time.
  15. A question regarding HBA on Octavia VRS'. If the hardware is fitted from the factory but not enabled, is there a reason for this such as it is actually faulty or to a lower standard in some cars, as compared to if someone ordered it out of the factory with the option ordered. Or is it just a money making exercise by dealers to enable it? Just thinking it odd that you can simply enable it with the right tools and wondered if this is similar to how some computer processors or CPU's can be "downbinned" i.e. Sold at a lower cost with some features/cores disabled due to manufacturing defects and other quality control standards not being met for higher tiered pricing.
  16. Slightly different method of removing the glovebox here as well where the guy explains a bit more in depth the process. This video helped me a lot when I was trying to hardwire a dashcam. https://youtu.be/ZD2rOX7xx4A
  17. Are they to road legal standards? (With the makers name and address etc)
  18. Apologies for bringing an old thread up. My Skoda Octy has those lipped plates with the name of the dealer I bought it from. Talk of free advertising has me wondering. What would be the cheapest and legal way to cover said dealer's name on the lipped part of the plate? Black tape? Ordering a new set of plates entirely? As for the subject itself, it is annoying but not a new thing. Arnold Clark often places yellow stickers with their logo on the back window (As I noted as a previous customer) and other garages often do the same. However it doesn't take much effort to remove them. A few sessions with the pressure washer wore them out and none of their technicians replaced them in my experience.
  19. Just what I needed. Thank you all. Just need to wait for the weather to improve so I can do this without getting soaked by the thundery down pours
  20. I take it this is from the workshop manual? Any similar directions for the upper bit of hatch interior trim as well?
  21. Has anyone got any experience of removing and refitting the interior card on the rear hatch? One of the clips securing it to rest of the rear hatch has come loose and fallen out (Possibly an oversight on the part of a local mechanic after some repair work was done) and I wanted to refit it but not sure where the clip goes. The only instructions I have seen are for a Superb hatchback and I am not sure how much it applies to an Octavia hatchback.
  22. As title says, anyone know of a reputable Skoda specialist in the General vicinity of Inverclyde or Paisley? I can go as far as Glasgow but prefer somewhere closer to the first two areas.
  23. Finally got round to installing the update. The actual update process took around 20 minutes, but took about an hour for me as I did a whole bunch of prep including setting up the charger, worried I didn't connect it correctly and that the weather would be problem, along with me messing around with OBDEleven to clear the installation error as per a tutorial on Youtube.
