  1. I don't beleive its available for Skoda models (yet?). Seen the RNS510 elsewhere described as "MDF2 with touch screen" but every time I've seen a picture its been in a VW and comes with the red and blue VW theme lighting. Agree its a cool looking unit though! Theres another thread on it here, but unfortunately most of its in German: Octavia-forum.de - RNS510
  2. ...Was still there a few days ago, sitting out front - no reg plates on it.
  3. I've got the auto-dimming mirror and rain sensing wipers but no light assist or tunnel lights (just the standard switch). My local dealer advises the auto-dimming mirror used to be a seperate option that come without light assist and it looks like this is how my cars been ordered. Their not yet aware of a retrofitting method but are looking in to it. I've just found the Light Assist Retrofit thread - going for a read. Cheers Ross
  4. Picked up the car on Friday and got the MFD2 in at the weekend, just fitted the new trim now (1Z0858069L2AU -
  5. Activated the hidden 'off' button on mine at the weekend....it really works  ....even the other half was impressed and she's feeling in a particularly jealous mood just now since I took delivery of the Octy! Thanks to Turbo Boss and everyone else to contributed.
  6. Just picked up mine and found it seems to suffer from the same problem - a standard light control switch has been fitted instead of the automatic / light assist / tunnel lights one. Otherwise the cars absolutely fantastic Have other affected cars been sucessfully sorted out by the dealer or is the (correct) recoding impossible? Cheers Ross
  7. The Octy has arrived at the dealer, will be with me in the next few days One of these would be a bit more icing on the cake!! Reserve List Bluetooth Kit 1. Welshbigman 2. jlwah 3. EddyH 4. RossM
  8. You've no idea how much I'm missing that car, sad to see her go! You'll get plenty of good times with it - not a car your likely to get bored with anyway!! I've Got the Metro on the road now, shoddy car but its got a bit of character - I reckon driving the metro will make me so much more glad of the Octy when it arrives. If you've got any questions about the Fabia and they haven't already been asked then your at the right place, or just drop me an email! All the best, Cheers Ross
  9. I'm sure you can clean stuff with bicarbonate of soda - maybe makes a good fabric cleaner if diluted in water....? Need some auld wives to come on and tell us more.
  10. Sometimes this is the cars way of telling you the ABS ECU has an intermittant fault. I experienced this a few times when turning the ignition, not heard the noise since the ABS ECU was replaced just over 2 years ago. Initially the dealer coldn't find anything logged using normal diagnostics but apparently there is a bulletin from Skoda HQ sent to all dealers describing the problem.
  11. In a very similar position to yours just now, but glad to say my dealer could advise within ten days of ordering the status on whether the freebies were included or not (the delay was because the salesman and the guy at Skoda to needed to authorise it were on holidays). Once they confirmed that they gave an approximate build date - they could only estimate it, it seems the exact build date isn't something they readily have available. The said at that time they wouldn't be in touch again until they had further news. They've now been in touch to say the car is built and will 'hopefully' be with me in the next 2-3 weeks, again they won't be back in touch until they have further news. I've been happy with the amount of contact, not too little and not too much (Newmarket Garage, Stirling btw). Would press them to get in touch with Skoda HQ about the freebies - its something you really need to know at an early stage.
  12. I find that some brands of gel pens are notoriuosly bad for smudging - the ink seems to take longer to dry and makes a mess (though my carelessness is also partially to blame)! In an exam situation, I wouldn't choose to use such a pen, would hate to think I had an answer correct but then smudged the ink without noticing and lost the marks.
  13. Funny - Only minutes ago on the way home I was discussing this very topic with my other half. She still doesn't get it, so trying to convince her it is actually a rather useful design feature....did have me convinced my mirrors had gremlins at one stage though. And yes, the middle setting heats up the mirror to prevent them misting up / or to defrost in winter.
  14. They were great in there day, and the handling is still fantastic - good fun to drive and enspire loads of confidence for new drivers. When I drove one the first time around I thought it was the best car on the road, wouldn't swap anyone their BMW or Merc for it!! Another thing thats got to be good about them though is the simplicity of them, its nice and easy for an amature mechanic to have a go at most jobs with them. On the downside they rust like buggery and are a tad unsafe by todays standards. Now I've driven a Skoda, I now know that Skodas are in fact the best cars on the road and wouldn't swap....etc etc
  15. NB: Pikey Thread I'm going to be a proud Metro driver for a couple of weeks before the new Octavia comes. Unfortunately the thing has to get through an MOT first. Its a P reg, 50k miles but been through the wars a bit. Went through the obvious pre-MOT checks today, mostly all okay underbody rust hopefully won't be classed as excessive. One mjor problem though... The thing has a slow leak on the front offisde displacer unit and because its been sitting unused for a couple of months its lowered itself to a very cool looking sporty level...unfortunately it wouldn't steer in either direction like this - probably good reason to fail it. Its a common problem with Metros / original Minis / MGFs that all share the same suspension setup. Wasn't wanting to be spending money, and certainly not the
  16. When I ordered mine, dealer thought delivery would be last week in June, turned out its more likely to be be 1st-2nd week in July, but after checking with the powers that be, I was advised the offer would still stand. From what I gather though the dealers aren't told until the last minute whether it'll be offically extended beyond June. FocusZtec - Thats a cracking spec - one thing missing, don't know if its something you would be interested in, but Heated Seats are now an option on the Octavia (thanks to some good people at Briskoda!!). Not all dealers know about it yet, its only recently become an official UK spec option. If its something you might be after do a search on here, theres a thread about it, you might need to get the dealer to make a call to Skoda HQ to confirm.
  17. For the UK spec its standard on Fabia3, or a
  18. This link (courtesy of PPlys) should take you to a nice selection of maxidot pictures: Adobe Web Photo Gallery It inegrates with other bits of the car as well, you can change settings for certain functions such as the way the central locking works (anji-hijack etc), shows the trip computer information, info from the stereo display, integrates with Sat Nav (if fitted) and Bluetooth Kit (if fitted). The same sort of thing is fitted to other VAG cars, but they call it something different. Makes the car look like its worth a lot more than the couple of hundred it costs as an option. Someone asked if it could be retrofitted, I think the answer was no, not easily.
  19. This is an excellent 'how to...' thanks! :-) The way it works with the maxidot is very nice! I'm also interested (dependant on cost), couple of questions though. Are the pieces of trim easy enough to remove and fit back on correctly? Will all bluetooth phones be compatible with the basic call functions and is there a list anywhere of the mobile phones compatible with ALL features? Ta, Ross
  20. Dyson do an a special car kit for their vacuums with attachments for all those hard to reach areas. ...however I've found the attachments are still too fat to get the end of them right down the narrow bits. Usually use a paint brush to knock the crumbs about while vacuums is standing-by to sook them away once there loosened.
  21. Interestingly - its often the case with Direct Line, that if you go through the process of obtaining a new quote from them (online usually gives a discount as well), it sometimes works out a bit cheaper than their renewal quote. Worth while checking
  22. I bought a set of them off MAS on here. I'll sell them on for a mere
  23. Reputable companies will not 'over-map' the car to an extent it will cause damage, Star Performance have an excellent reputation and only tend to do 'safe' remaps. As mentioned above, common problems sometimes associated with unsafe remaps are clutch slippage and turbo problems. The car doesn't have any of the above problems. However it did have a problem where one of the turbo pipes come loose off the intercooler. This was at 58'000 miles and fixed under warrantly, the dealer didn't see any reason to attribute it to the remap - the pipes and intercooler were replaced. Apparently this is fairly common.
  24. Ello ello, vRS' are becoming more popular in Glasgow - I've seen a few recently! Nice choice of car, even if I do say so myself Plenty of posts on here to keep you entertained! If theres ever anything you want to know about that car - you'll probably find it here, tons of information if you search. If your considering modifying it, some common mods on here to look up are: 312mm brake conversion PD160 Air intake cotton air filter (green / K&N etc) eibach springs Remap (tons of info - all the main suppliers are good) You can even fit a slide out drawer in the front console instead of the hole thats there as standard There are some posts on common problems as well (all cars have them unfortunately ) - rear brakes squealing, vibrating gear sticks, a stutter problem on certain models, suspension bushes etc A really good site to look as well is VRStu's here: Fabia-vrs.com - Home Page with all sorts of bits n bobs on it. Hope thats useful P.S. If you know anyone else in Glasgow looking for a Fabia vRS, I've got one for sale in the For Sale secion
  25. You've already got the best tool for the job, putting extra miles on the clock isn't the big evil its made out to be! Even if you did get a cheap runaround, and sell it for close to what you paid for it, your still losing the tax and insurance, remembering any no claims discount isn't usually applied to the second car. I used to be in the same position doing 75 round trip a day to work and more on top of that visiting customers. I put 65'000 miles on the Fabia...and yes, now I'm selling it the high mileage may well (perhaps foolishly) put some people off. The point is, I enjoyed every one of those 65'000 miles...and whoever its future owner(s) are will also enjoy the next 200'000+ miles its still got left in it! So yeah - personally I wouldn't bother with a second car, and wouldn't class anything under 100'000 as 'high' mileage either
