  1. Quick update on this issue... While on standard map, no reoccurance of the misfire. The dealer checked twice but they couldn't spot anything wrong either. As soon as remap was reapplied this evening, I gave it a little push and the misfire was back! Could recreate it at will. Swapped out coil pack 4 for a new shiny one this evening and gave it some more testing... Problem solved! Entirely smooth throughout the range. Thanks again to Kev & Harry for the feedback. I don't understand enough about coilpacks to understand why one would fail with a performance map, but be perfectly okay with the stock map...even when pushed to the limits, but hey - sorted now! I'm fitting the Rev D Diverter Valve tomorrow as a precaution to the boost fault, plus I noticed a fair bit of whistling tonight while pushing it a bit.
  2. No RWD vehicles near me, so cheated a little bit on distance and found this 60 miles away, Buy it Now on eBay for £500 1999 MITSUBISHI GALANT GLS RED 2.0 litre, RWD, 134bhp, top speed of 131mph and 0-60 in around 9 seconds. Only two previous owners. Its RED ...and with a bit of spit and polish would look absolutely stunning. Imagine it with a set of chrome rims...chavtastic!
  3. Not so good! I'm going to try the shorter and wider Gold (yellow) ones - 20x38. Part of me says these are just too short to give the boot the required lift, but on the other hand they might just work. The wider springs have a lot more ooomph, plus with them being shorter...if they did work, they should last a bit longer because they won't be full compressed. I'll let you know how it goes - probably middle of next week or next weekend before I can try them. If these fail then I'll be looking at the uprated gas struts again, possibly with an added spring to give it a bit of lift-off.
  4. The Fabia II vRS options are listed below, but I wonder if any others are available, e.g heated seats are usually available but not always listed on the official brochure. 5. I wondered if anyone ever trusts the 'average speed' function on their trip computer enough for this purpose. Not that I'd ever condone it of course, but it'd be a handy way of keeping track of your average speed in such situations - provided you reset it at each camera. Agree with OP though, cameras seem to strike fear in to the hearts of some drivers! They forget everything else going on around them and concentrate on going in a straight line while concentrating on the their speedometer. For example, I find it rare to see anyone change lane on a dual carriageway if their passing a camera - even in lane 2 with nobody to their left, they'll wait until they've passed the white dashes on the road before thinking about moving back to lane 1.

    Scotland RR Day

Im 80% definite, depending on date, location and price. I can make almost any weekend, apart from 1st, 14th & 15th August.

    Shell..

Sounds like you've had a bad day! Usually things would be better tomorrow but the smell of Redex will probably take a long time to go away. I can sympathise, having also been the victim of a leaking bottle of Redex six years ago and the smell is still there!* *just kidding, give it a good clean it'll go away in a couple of weeks Anyway, with our modern engined vehicles and modern fuels, you shouldn't really need Redex and the like. Chuck it away and it'll never happen again
  8. Welcome You'll get plenty of opinions here about remap and exhaust options, but there isn't really any one BEST option. In general, people will recommend what's on their own cars (if there happy with it, and most are), but spend some time going through the forums, it’s all been discussed hundreds of times. My opinion though.... Exhaust...yes, if I was going for one it'd be a Milltek. Purely because I used to have one on my Fabia vRS and I felt it worked well with the upgraded intake and remap to make the car a bit stronger. It wasn't ridiculously loud, it just gave a nicer sporty note looked good and was a decent price. If you go for one though, I'd save up and get the full turbo back system. Just replacing from the Cat back doesn't make much difference, because the cat is the most restrictive part. Remap... To get some ideas what others have, check this thread: Poll-What remap do you have? Place your votes! People will say you get what you pay for, and generally speaking, the big companies like Revo will always get a lot of recommendations. They do seem a tad pricey though. You'd have to think about how far you want to travel as well. Shark are the most popular on here, and will send you a tuning unit to do it yourself for a bit extra. Angel Tuning are also quite popular. They started off as Italian car enthusiasts, but the majority of their work is now VAG group remaps. They will travel to you and the price isn't too bad.
  9. Community Guidelines "Please be nice to all Briskodians." "5. Respect is the name of the game. Do not flame, hound, badger, disrespect, or taunt ANYONE on the forums." "10. Moderators and Administrators have the final say in all forum matters. If you have a problem or a complaint raise it with them using Messenger, e-mail or the Report button - but NEVER in the forums." The person posting "utter garbage about a bike" might well have been in the wrong for doing so, but the people who felt that way should have followed rule number 10 above, and kept their complaint out of the forum. Someone went to the effort to create a REPORT button that sits below every single post. People should use it rather than go off-topic.
  10. Skoda sell the CDs here: Å koda Accessories Or you could give the Teleatlas website a try. Have you contacted the eBay seller? They might be able to provide another disc. I believe its possible to update the firmware on these to show a different logo, but you'll still have the green LEDs if its the Skoda one you've got. Your local VW dealer might be able to help with their own Sat Nav CD for it. I read somewhere that the firmware updates automatically when you load an updated map CD from the dealer, but I could be wrong there.
  11. Very nice, I'm liking the white-ness! ....is that a speck of dirt just above the offside headlight? I can picture you running outside to check now
  12. My dealer hinted that they would probably get a slapped wrist from Skoda UK if they knew people were test driving it. They weren't letting Joe Public take it out until the official lauch on the 29th, but in the mean time were allowing ocassional sneak previews for established customers. Saying that...the one I drove had almost 500 miles already!
  13. Had a good laugh looking at that! ...and to think, its somebody's pride & joy. All they needed to finish the car was the vRS interior, but they never got round to it. Priceless. Judging by the location, I'd like to think its simply because they're too far from civilisation to know that this isn't cool. Then again, you probably see a lot worse in the big cities.
  14. Yip! My left leg kept twitching for the first few miniutes, looking for the clutch that wasn't there. Then every time I come to a stop, it was an horrible feeling that I was about to stall and couldn't do anything about it. This gave me the initial feeling that I couldn't live with an automatic, but I was suprised at how quick and easy it was to get used to. Another unusual thing was reversing. I was backing up towards a wall, come to a stop with the brake pedal then decided I wanted back a few more inches. When I went back on the accelerator the car seemed to JUMP backwards pretty suddenly. Not sure if this is normal automatic reversing behavour or just my unsympathetic right foot, but the thought of putting a ding in the back end of the dealers only vRS scared me somewhat!
  15. The point for me is this series of events which you see again and again... Someone starts a good car related topic. An ON-TOPIC reply is posted but uses less than perfect language, spelling or grammar. Multiple members of the spelling police feel the need to reply with OFF-TOPIC posts reprimanding the post with poor language. This cycle has these effects.... Perfectly good threads are ruined. People who are willing to contribute, despite their poor language skills think twice about posting (something useful) next time. Briskoda becomes overun with pompus keyboard bandits, who are happy to post off-topic just so they can put somebody else down. But I stress...I agree that text speak or lazy writing in general shouldn't be encouranged. If its a problem for anyone, use the REPORT button rather than replying with something off-topic. Like if I were to press the report button under post #8 for breaking the text speak rules for example
  16. I seen where this started earlier, and had to stop myself saying something I shouldn't (taking the post even further off topic). If somebody uses "text speak" because of laziness, that's one thing. But whose to say this isn't somebody with a learning difficulty or missed out on basic writing skills for whatever reason? Somebody grumbled earlier, blaming the schools. No doubt in his 'day and age', "stupid" children would have been beaten for poor language skills. If people are that bothered, they should write to their MPs asking to reinstate corporal punishment for dyslexic's.....and pass a bill to keep them off internet forums in the mean time. I mean after all, who do they think they are, coming in here and mixing with people with good grammar and spelling. They can't possibly offer anything constructive to a CAR forum....can they? ....oh no wait, it is actually another person we're talking about. Maybe we should treat them as one? Just a thought. For information, it has now become very common for people with language skills to use what looks like "text speak" to get by in life. It doesn't look pretty, nor is it particularly easy to read but it does liberate them. The alternative is for them to never communicate. The so called "spelling police", with their perfect grasp of the language shouldn't really have too many problems deciphering such messages. I mean if someone who they consider to be stupid can write it, surely they can read it?
  17. When they produced one that goes quicker than the MkI Fabia vRS! I agree about the A3 drivers. Doesn't matter what engine they run, even the lacklustre 1.6. Perhaps they believe the money spent on their overpriced vehicle makes them king of the road!
  18. Had a quick spin in one today as well. Not being too experienced with automatics, it took a while for my brain to tell my left foot to stop twitching. Soon become pretty natural and fun to drive though. Its a quirky little car. Everything about it...1.4 engine, automatic, supercharger + turbo....it doesn't sound like a clever recipe, but it actually works really well. Not sure which customer base are going to go for it, but its probably one that up until now is pretty untapped! For VAG, it might be a good way to introduce automatic DSG gearboxes to the masses, and make them more acceptable. Normal driving, I found it pleasant to drive and while there was maybe a bit more body roll than I expected it still felt reassuring on bends. Acceleration in normal Drive mode is good. Its quick off the mark and when putting the foot down at cruising speed its got plenty of go in it. Unlike the OP though, I experienced a small amount of lag a couple of times. I guess it just depends where the gearbox finds itself when you demand more power. A quick blast in Sports mode from the standstill found it almost torque steering at each gear change up to 4th. This put a smile on my face ....although it has to be said, not the same smile that my remapped Mk I vRS used to, even although on paper the two would have been fairly equal - the torque of the diesel was what made it so special. Totally different cars though, shouldn't really compare them side by side. Will be interesting to see what the tuners are doing to the new vRS in a few months time though.
  19. Thats interesting actually! I've been driving a FL estate this week while my Pre-FL hatchback is in the garage. First impression driving it was its definately longer, and looking in the rear view mirror gave that tunnel vision impression of a long car with a small square window far, far away at the back end. After parking it in my usual spot, I got out and looked at it side on and thought to myself it doesn't actually look any longer. The leg room in the back is so much more than the hatchback, but I got the feeling the length of the boot space wasn't as much. Looking at the stats, the estate is only 15Kg heavier, and has an additional 20 litres of luggage space (owing to the height of the boot space). With the 0-60 time and the top speed on the hatchback being ever so slightly quicker, it could mean the estate is a bit less aerodynamic. Doesn't seem to have much effect on fuel economy though.
  20. The obvious one is you'll get a bigger car, but with the less-obvious benefit that its just about as nimble as the hatchback. Whenever I drive one, it really reminds me of that advert with the chubby bloke doing the gymnastics! Personally though, I'm not a fan of estates - their length is beyond practical for my needs. Another benefit is that you can carry out the Automatic Boot modification for very little cost or effort.
  21. I've heard of this happening before, and seen clogged fan jets on a Fiesta from using nasty screenwash. Next time your in Halfords or similar, read the back of a few different types of screenwash. A lot of them now state there safe for fan jet style washers. The two screen wash products I use (without problem so far)... - The official Skoda one (which they provide included in the service price), and lasts a long time because its very concentrated and you just need a little drop of it. Price isn't too bad either. - The concentrated Halfords one in the blue container (the liquid is flurescent yellow). Its better in the cold winter, and even with strong concentrations hasn't caused problems with my fan jets.
  22. The consensus I've read elsewhere is that drilled discs can cause the edges of pads to chip, crack and eventually fail (or at least wear down a lot quicker) without being a decent enouch improvement in braking performance to justify them. That said, I'm sure the right set of pads / drilled discs wouldn't have this problem. Grooved discs seem more popular and seem more pad friendly, but haven't heard many rave reviews to suggest they increase braking performance much. Are you considering them for track use?
  23. My experience is the same as above. Last winter, I found myself struggling up a snow and ice covered hill, going at a snails pace with ESP switched on. It kept activating, despite my best efforts to control the wheelspin manually. I took the decision of turning it off to try and get up the hill quicker, but it only made things worse. Couldn't get any traction, lost momentum entirely and ended up turning around (unvoluntarily) before making my way back down the hill. That was at a very slow speed though. On the other hand, if it were a situation where you wanted to get a bit of speed over the snow / mud (not recommended....but for whatever reason) and had tyres that were suitable for the environment, I'd reckon ESP would be better turned off. Its very sensitive and will cut power for a comparitively long period compared to manually adjusting the power with your right foot. For example, a heavily snow covered incline up a country road - a good run up with ESP turned off would probably give you a better chance of keeping the momentum going (albeit increaing the chance of ending up in a ditch).
  24. If its the same as the Octavia, theres a small circlip on either end of the gas strut, you want to be half-removing the one on the narrow end of the strut (i.e. the one nearest the back of the car). A small flat screwdriver will prise it out. It will come off completely, but its easier to leave it halfway off (because it can be tricky to get back on). Once the circlip is undone, the end of the strut will just pull away from the boot door (its just a ball joint holding it on). At this point, quickly dive to the left (or right) to avoid the falling boot from hitting your head After catching and propping up the boot, the plastic bit on the end of the gas strut will unscrew. You might need to hold the metal rod bit (lightly) with a pair of pliers or mole grips. An adjustable spanner works for unscrewing the plastic bit if its tight. Image below of the circlip (easier than it looks to pop out)...
  25. ...after thinking about it for four days, I agree! Longer springs just aren't going to fit, and if they did the constant compression placed upon them would mean they stopped working pretty soon after fitting. Most of these die springs aren't meant to be compressed more than 25% of their length (12.8mm for the 16x51 springs). My cars in the garage this week (not boot related), but when I've got it back I'm going to try the gold (extra heavy duty) 16x38 or 20x38 springs, data specs below: Gold Exta Heavy Die Springs Also - I got the chance to compare my 3-year old hatchback to a brand new estate boot, the difference was massive, the estate took hardly any effort to open in comparison, which is why I'm swaying towards the 20x38 springs if they'll fit. If those don't work, I think uprated gas struts are the only option, but will be a bit pricier - and again, no idea which ones to go for. Part of me wonders if its really worth all the hassle, but seeing the increasing number of estate owners with videos of their automatic boots just makes me more envious and determined
