  1. Don't know about Dynamic Diesels, but got a TDI Tuning box via ebay for £80 and happy. Doubt the 30bhp, but it does pull better from lower revs right through the range and very smooth. Makes for better overtaking and less gear changing. Economy hasn't changed. No smoke. Overall very pleased.
  2. If you really were using that much fuel a look in the mirror would show a real peasouper
  3. I have the same as Mattievrs. No light display which I like as dark cabin helps see in mirrors at night. More of a backup feature just in case something has moved behind car below window/mirrors such as a child. Easy to fit and with no front display everything fits into area behind wheel arch.
  4. I had this on another car and new shock absorbers cured it
  5. A bit of a high-jack. I have exactly the same problem. Same door too. Anybody any ideas what to do apart from ripping the lining away to force it? Lots of similar problems spied via search - some solutions, but no easy answers; so I guess it's pull and hope time.
  6. Before the service did it use a lot of oil? - If not then unlikely to be a sudden coincidence that the engine has worn out on the service day! - suspect service linked Any blue smoke on acceleration? Any oil in water? Any oil around EGR or oil filter? Are you sure it's not overfilled (Is dipstick OK - no bit of plastic stuck/missing)? Did you use the right amount of oil on the change (rather than fill to mark) and if so, did it fill to the proper mark?
  7. AS WH SAYS. You don't need to replace it. You will need lots of hand cleaner and elastoplast. The trick is to undo the two easy screws and as soon as it frees with the hard one then twist it to get better access. Have fun.
  8. Get winters - you'll be amazed at the difference.
  9. Have a look at the exhaust system and the connections to "other bits" underneath, including engine and gearbox mountings. See threads on lubricating mountings. Gearbox noises don't usually disappear, so don't panic.
  10. Broken front N/S spring on SDI. No difference in noise or handling. Seems to depend where it breaks. It is common on all Fabias.
  11. Blue smoke suggests oil. You've no turbo so suspect head gasket. Any oil in water or water in oil? Could be a broken ring, but unlikely. You need a compression test as a first check. Hope it's cheap.
  12. When you say,'on the seal' do you mean that the rubber was wet? If so that's OK; the drains for the door will make it so. If it is wet inside the ruber seal, then you have a problem.
  13. I put new style ones in last summer. Not too difficult. Used a long bolt to pull in and washing up liquid as a lubricant. Big tip is to have car high enough so you can get leverage and keep your knuckles.
  14. Wash out the intercooler. Easy, but make sure empty of water before restart.
  15. Agree with all above. 10K for air filter, not as recommended. Use rev counter to get best torque. Hard to get our W reg below 70mpg with mixed driving.
  16. Remember to ask if the sensor comes with the the seal (round rubber washer) as it can be obtained as a seperate part.
  17. Used MIllers and was good, but found 500ml per tankful of two stroke oil has the same effect.
  18. We've a SDI (W reg) at 105K and a 1.4 TDI (04reg) at 140K. Both run really well. Both have needed the front suspension maintenance, but otherwise few problems. On a long journey there's no difference in journey times. The TDI is much faster from a standing start and higher top speed giving an average of 74mpg, but for normal driving and cruising at 65-70 the SDI has it being quiet and very economical at 78mpg. Generally I prefer the SDI whilst the wife prefers the TDI, but we're both happy with either. Have fun
  19. I've a Halford trolley jack. Used for 10 years and no problems; BUT, from the OP description it seems that he was under the car with it simply jacked up. Never, ever, ever trust a jack on it's own. People have been killed. Always use something else (stands/bricks&wood etc) and lower the car onto these. You'll see if the ground will sink, car move sideways;and can rejack to get it stable. You can then push the jack up as an extra support and ready to remove stands.
  20. Also check rubber sealing ring on temperature sender at back of block. However, If it isn't losing water but level in tank is dropping then returning once pressure is removed it suggests an air lock. The air would compress and stay compressed until you removed the cap. There is a sequence of actions for systematically bleeding the cooling system as it doesn't always self clear air. For worries about head gasket - has the coolant colour changed?
  21. If they're OK, don't change them - 70K is nothing if used mostly on roads and for that money you can get two winter tyres for next year. When you replace the bump stops (easy job)you might find that the covers are broken at the top. Don't panic, they are for protection from dirt and aren't precision pieces; I made one up from an old grease tube three years ago and it's been fine. No problem with MOT.
  22. The plastic bit under the handbrake is just a tight fit. Good idea to wear a glove, but just put a finger in under the lever and pull hard. As for the console itself, if you pull it upwards at the back, it will tip up and you can get at the lighter socket without taking the whole off.
  23. If the baby is 'new' and in a carry cot, does this use both diagonal seat belts to hold it? If not take out the smaller seat back and squab; it's amazing how much extra room you get. If in a super recliner type baby seat you can probably just use the smaller seat and remove the larger. Leave out the parcel shelf. If in carry cot, probably good idea to use a 'dog guard' (or ply sheet) behind cot to stop anything being thrown onto baby in emergency stop. Extra internal mirror to check on baby is useful.
