  1. Personally I wouldn't be to worried about quality and reliability. Skoda (VAG in general) have pretty exacting standards, I doubt they'll be cobbling cars together with any old bits and pieces, or leaving some cars incomplete etc. I'd like to think that in a more organised fashion they might alter what equipment is assigned to a particular model variant based on component supply, but that spec should then be applied to all builds in that variant. This has been the case with many manufacturers since the start of the great silicone chip famine couple of years ago.
  2. Never given them a second thought until this thread started. I still can't understand all the fuss.
  3. I find some of those prices eyewatering. According to the April listing the equivalent model to mine, with all options fitted, is around A$11k (6k pounds) more than I've just paid for my MY23. I would have thought that in the much larger UK/European market you would be getting a pricing advantage, but it seems the opposite is the case.
  4. They're adjustable 😉
  5. I think I've commented on it before, but as my first experience with Skoda I find their instructions are often cryptic or just non existent, leaves me scratching my head sometimes. I love the car, but it sure has it frustrations!
  6. Ha! that's exactly where mine live. Can't figure those things out, life is too short...
  7. Sadly, the trend for vehicle manufacturer's / importers / dealers to show such contempt for customers is becoming the new normal. My last car was also from a 'brand' that had developed this skill magnificently. Communication and customer service meant nothing to them, so it isn't just a Skoda or VAG thing. It was always my experience in business that customers are very forgiving of problems or delays so long as you keep them in the loop through frequent and accurate communication. These days good luck finding anyone who actually gives a damn, let alone delivers!
  8. Apologies for my ignorance, but how do you find the software number? Still getting used to working around the infotainment....
  9. I do feel for some of you guys, those long waiting times are crazy. It's the same situation here with virtually all new cars (except for Chinese brands which seem to be plentiful). Last month I finally decided on buying a Mk IV Octavia, but realised it would likely involve a long wait since all new ones are advertised as 'available to order' only with no fixed timeline. The exception was a handful of MY23 demonstrators available for sale, and only 3 of those in this state in the 'Style' version (which I wanted). Built Sept '22 and arrived in Melbourne November '22, presumably to be replaced by '23 builds eventually. I went in to view one and bought it on the spot, fully optioned with Tech and Luxury packs, plus panoramic sunroof. It had been a showroom car, not used for demo drives, and had only 140km on it having been driven briefly the dealership manager. So effectively I have a brand new car with a reasonable discount on the new price because it was technically a demo. I think I struck lucky!
  10. I share the frustration. Sometimes it works, other times not. I have the impression left of centre seems more successful but still very hit and miss. I'd like to know more about the set up and where the sensor is actually situated...
  11. My car is brand new and I do have Satnav, so naming this version 'Columbus' is the giveaway. Skoda does have a penchant for the cryptic I'm finding!
  12. "Swing low. Bolero mid. Columbus high." I was guessing that'd be the case.
  13. Perhaps no one knows.... Anyhow, it turns out I have the Columbus. No idea where 'Swing' and 'Bolero' fit in 😕
  14. According to the manual in my new car there are 3 infotainment systems referenced - Swing/Bolero/Columbus, obviously covering a variety of models. However there is no indication as which one I have. As far as I can see there isn't much difference between them but I am curious, how do I find out? Is there something hiding in plain sight that I'm missing?
  15. I still like to do some sort of running-in period, I'll be doing it with my new Octy IV (currently only 400km on the clock). For the first couple of thousand (book says 1,000 km), vary speeds, up and down the gears a bit when you can, maybe no more than couple of hours straight at constant speed (cruise). Don't flog it and don't let it labour. That's just my practice for 'bedding in' an engine, I respect others will have different views...
  16. Fair point, we got off topic so I'll resist any further comment about the music...or maybe open another thread.
  17. That's pretty much my assumption now, why it has to be regionally different I don't know. My cam definitely doesn't power up or down with ignition, has to be switched on or off at the cam itself.
  18. Result! Mine was also pushed into the housing, now fixed. Thanks for that valuable bit of advice Hairy_Joe! Disappointingly though, the socket appears to be full time live and not controlled via the ignition, so must remember to switch the dashcam off when leaving the car...
  19. Ah! thanks, I'll try that...
  20. I should have also said that it does work when connected to the usb C sockets in the console, just not on the overhead one, so the cable would appear to be ok.
  21. Can't see anything wrong with the shifter, looks neat and works fine imho. Infotainment system takes some getting used to but once 'learnt' it's pretty good. My only gripe is NO inbuilt HDD for music storage, even my 10 year old Jeep had that!
  22. I've played around with the equalizer and hiked up the base to get a bit more 'depth' to the sound. Overall it's a pretty 'ordinary' system I think.
  23. I had the same query with my brand new Octavia Style. Bought a cable with mini usb on one end (for the cam) and C type usb on the other. Doesn't work on the overhead usb socket. Suspecting the socket might be at fault, I connected my phone to see if it would charge - nothing. Looks like I might have a dead socket. Will report when I take it in for it's first service.
  24. Hi one and all, New member here in Melbourne Aus. Just bought my first Skoda, a 2023 Octavia Style Wagon (Estate) in Candy White. The only other car I've had from the VAG group was a 2015 Golf. It was a great little machine but had to sell after a couple of years in order to buy a large SUV for towing a pretty heavy caravan we had just bought. Now that 'phase' has passed, I can get back into a 'nicer' car for daily driving. It will be interesting to experience the new 8sp box after the Golf's 7sp DSG. This Octavia comes fully loaded with factory fitted Luxury Pack, Tech Pack and Panoramic Sunroof, so it should be a very nice place to be! Anyway, looking forward to picking it up from dealer on Thursday.
