  1. I got one of these USB-C card reader adaptors and a 128Gb MicroSD card. It takes up little space and works! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-Reader-Adapter-microSDHC-microSDXC/dp/B07RY36LB4
  2. The heavy right foot applies to both accerleration and braking. Although some of the momentum lost through braking is converted back into electricity through the regenerative braking, it is more efficient not to brake in the first place, so anticipating the road and traffic ahead to avoid having to stop - Driving Without Brakes (DWB) as the "hypermilers" say. If you have a seach for "hypermiling" you will find lots of tips. I generally get around 25% more miles out of a charge than my wife does so driving style makes a big difference and it is really noticable when you only have a maximum battery range of around 30 miles to start with.
  3. Thanks. I will have another play
  4. If I follow the instructions to turn on the mirror heating, nothing happens - the indicator light does not change and the mirrors don't warm up.
  5. My 2021 Octavia SE Technology (PHEV) has the indicator for the heated wing mirrors on the mirror controls, but I can't get them to turn on. Are the heated mirrors standard across the range or just on some models, which does not include mine?
  6. I had the same thing this morning. I think that some of the time it is a Skoda server issue, rather than the app, because all the commands to the car from the app go through their servers, whereever they are. I checked the Vehicle Data Access and mine was still on.
  7. I got a cable with a timeswitch from Toughleads. There are a range of options for timers: I got one that is WiFi controlled and links back to my home automation system so it is easy to adjust times for off peak or free electricity periods. The departure timer in the Infotainment system also works. Set it for Monday to Sunday recurring and your off peak electricity times as the preferred charging time and set the departure time for midday with no climate control. This means that the car always recharges to 80% off peak, and I can boost the charging to 100% if I know I am going to be setting off at a particular time. Even better, the Skoda integration in Home Assistant is now working well, and I can set charging, climate settings and departure times there, so if I create a calendar entry called "Warm Car", it will turn on the climate control 30 minutes before departure time so the car is nicely defrosted. I also have an automation that runs at 10pm each evening and uses Alexa to annouce a reminder to plug the car in if the charge is below 50% and it is not plugged in.
  8. I have the same problem - there is a click when you touch the light, but nothing happens. I am not sure whether it happens all the time or it is intermittent, because I don't often sit in the car for long. Opening the door works, but that turns off the infotainmaint unit, so if you were sitting in the car to finish listening to something, you end up with light but nothing to listen to!
  9. Is the car a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) or a Mild Hybrid (MHEV)? I've got a 2021 PHEV and I can't imagine those control functions being removed because they are pretty fundamental to how you use the vehicle.
  10. I took a different approach (which I think I read about here) and purchased an adaptor which is car cupholder sized at the base and wider at the top. This means that I can fit in a water bottle or later cups, which don't fit otherwise.
  11. I wonder whether the update is being pushed out because of this: "Researchers find security flaws in Skoda cars that may let hackers remotely track them" - the research focuses on the Skoda Superb III but the problem is on the MIB3 unit. https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/12/researchers-find-security-flaws-in-skoda-cars-that-may-let-hackers-remotely-track-them/
  12. Mine is back and the fault is fixed. It required the VAG specialist to clear the codes, but no other problems. The garage accepted it was their MOT that caused the problem, so I didn't have to pay either.
  13. Mine is back from the garage where the MOT was done and the message is gone. It took a VAG specialist to clear the codes, but that is all it took. No cost to me either, which was particularly good, since Skoda wanted £175 to look at it.
  14. I took mine back to where it had its MOT. They say that there are a range of linked fault codes and are waiting for a VAG specialist to come out and look at it. In the meantime, they have advised not to drive the car, as it could cause damage to the ABS pump. Since it is a month since the MOT, it might be a bit late for that! I noticed that in the booking history in Service in the MySkoda app, it says it is "Error: Hill Start Assist (id 42001)". It does make me wonder whether they tried to do some of the brake tests in the MOT with AutoHold still engaged.
  15. Mine was booked in with the dealer next week to have this looked at, but that appointment appears to have disappeared now, so I will have to book it in again, probably in the new year. The warning, everytime the car is unlocked or the door is opened, is annoying, but the parking brake appears to be working OK, although I might be cautious about parking it on a hill until I know what the cause is.
  16. We had problems with ours turning on and off, and we haven't had a problem since the dealer upgraded the Infotainment system from 1806 to 1941. However, the problem was intermittant so although we have had a few months without problems, only time will tell whether it actually fixed it completely
  17. I think it might be the car's version of "Look out for the thing behind you...watch out behind...STOP!! YOU'RE GOING TO HIT IT!!!". That's usually just before it slams on the brakes so you think you have hit something!
  18. We went for a 1.4 PHEV. We do a similar mileage a year, but most of the miles are short distance ones that we can do on battery, the remaining ones being long drives to Cornwall or Scotland. We had a diesel up until then. The 1.4 gives us plenty of performance, even in a fully loaded estate with 4 adults and a very full boot and it never seems to struggle. Your choice may depend on where you are coming from - we had a 1.5 diesel Ford Focus before the Octavia, so probably similar performance, on paper at least, although the performance of the Octavia does seem to be much better. What I would really like is a PHEV with a slightly longer range - 100 miles would be fantastic, but 50 or 60 miles would be great. That would mean we could do longer local trips on battery. 30 miles range always seems to disappear very quickly!
  19. I was checking to see if there are any messages in the My Skoda app and found, amusingly, that the car had already booked itself into the dealer next month for "Error: Hill Start Assist". I assume it is going to want me to drive it there! I wonder whether the error was caused by attempting some of the MOT brake tests whilst the car has Auto Hold enabled?
  20. This message is still appearing whenever the car is unlocked or when the driver's door is opened. I have done a code scan (using Torque) and there are no stored errors. I will contact the garage that did the MOT and see what they have to say.
  21. Our 2021 iV had its first MOT yesterday. When unlocked it, I got a long beep and a message saying "Error: electronic parking brake. Stop vehicle safely! Workshop". This clears after a second or two and does not come back whilst driving, but it happens every time the car is unlocked. I have not seen this message before, so what would have caused this in the MOT and it something the MOT centre can sort out or does it need to go back to the dealer?
  22. We got a 2021 mk4 hybrid estate earlier in the summer and it has been great. It went to the dealer for some software updates, which they did under warrantly because of occasional infotainment system restarts, but no other issues. If I were getting another, I would ensure that there is something left on the manufacturer's warranty to get any potential issues sorted out. From looking around before settling on the Octavia, most of the alternatives had similar issues, particularly with software. Looking on the forums can make it look like they are disasters on wheels, but people don't usually come to the forums to say that their cars are fine!
  23. When our car went to the dealer last week, they updated the infotainment system to 1941 and the navigation database to 24.8. It was done under warranty because of Infotainment system crashes (previously on 1804) and because the maps were stuck on 20.7.
  24. On this subject, the other week I was sitting in the car having turned it off but with the radio still on. After a while the interior lights turned off, but no amount of clicking the lights themselves or that button on the overhead display could get them to turn on again. I could hear the clicks from the system when I clicked the buttons. They turned on when I opened the door, but I could not do this until I had finished listening, because it would have turned the radio off. I don't know if this was a one-off or expected behaviour. I have not sat in the car long enough after turning off the ignition to test it again.
  25. My car is back from the dealer with 1941.
