STOLEN NUMBER PLATE - Shipley area
munster replied to shortland55's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I expect they have done a few drive offs as well. It happens around my area all the time, cloned plate = free fuel. I am amazed at the garages who allow them to put fuel in the car despite them knowing (sometimes) that the same car/person drove off without paying last time. -
I did a fair bit of reading before I plumped for the Goodyears, the noise reduction was really surprising. I still have a few gremlins to work out with regards mpg etc but so far they are cracking.

It's a little dirty but will clean up nicely.

I'll try and get some in a bit, as for make? I guess Skoda as it came out of a Octy VRS estate - where do I look any ideas?

Driving with a dodgy dog bone...
munster replied to Octabus's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I did mine the other day, it took me 10 minutes (sorry mate) and that was taking my time. I think it was the original dogbone as the bushes were absolutely shot to pieces. I could turn it, as far as the metalwork would allow, by hand. I just bought a standard dogbone as I'm not interested in modding my car. My car is an 04 what reg is yours octabus? The clunking disppeared immediately. A few happy snaps in this thread of how far I could twist it: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/381722-lower-suspension-bush-mot-fail/- 15 replies

I swapped the carpets yesterday. Whilst I get the "silver" carpet being part of the Vrs DNA, I just couldn't live with the state of it after 14 years of (ab)use. I changed it to a black one which does look good I have to be honest. When I got the seats out you could see where someone had used bleach to try to clean it previously, so quite happy now to have changed it. -
Hello mate Sorry for not saying hello earlier but work and xmas have got in the way! Welcome to the gang, if you have a question you'll find the answer on here! Cheers

Forgot to say that prior to doing the job the steering wheel was off centre, so thinking it had been taken off and put back on off centre I adjusted it so it was straight. Once I had done the job it became apparent that the steering wheel hadn't been moved until I did it and I had to put it back to the original position. I can only put it down to how badly worn the bushes were!

I have to agree that seat removal is easy. It is quite surprising how easily the rears come out - check youtube (seems to be easier to search for mk4 golf videos tbh) hand pressure and a flat blade screw driver and Robert is your uncle!! Fronts are 4 bolts IIRC, 2 under blind covers (again, check youtube). Rear of the cenre console is easy but I haven't taken the front part of the centre console out yet. Can't believe it is that difficult considering the rest of it is easy! -
As promised:

Is the snot from the rear wiper? Any idea why it has gone so thick or am I being?

Mate Did the wishbone arms and the dogbone today. I did it on the drive, put the car on axle stands and changed the dogbone, 10 minute job to change it. Taking my time Then did each wishbone arm. Only issue I found was that once the nut was undone on the ball joint and I'd freed it with a tap from a hammer it just turned and turned. Tried mole grips but it just turned, even went and bought some new ones to no avail, so I chopped it off with a grinder not much space to work with but it can be done. Really took my time with the 1st ball joint, just went for it on the 2nd. Had a look at my ARB bushes whilst I was there and they look in good shape so I left them. Pretty pleased with myself as the clunk on pulling away has gone and the car feels more stable. The old dogbone could almost be turned 90 degrees by hand! One of the bushes on the wishbone arm was ripped pretty much all the way across. I will post up some happy snaps tommorrow after work.

No idea on the price they will give you but wouldn't it be worth buying back and breaking it? -
I'll have the KO3s turbo as well. If you box it & the downpipe I will get a courier if thats ok. Do you have the heatshield for the downpipe?
