  1. That's odd. I insured my car with DirectLine a couple of months ago and I declared all of the optional extras on the car as they deemed it had been "modified". They said it didn't affect the premium, but if the car was a write off they would only pay out to the value of the 'standard' car. As some other people have mentioned, I think it's best to declare abosolutley everything and don't give them a chance to back out of a claim if the worst should happen... Cheers, Balham
  2. I have always found the Autotrader website to be pretty useful when looking around. Cheers, Balham
  3. Had a flyer come through from Progress in Letchworth (Herts) to say that one of the regional directors from Skoda UK will be there this weekend and able to offer discounts that the dealerships are unable to on 58 plate cars. Obviously a bit of marketing, but may be worth a look if you're looking for a new car? Cheers, Balham
  4. I picked up my car a while ago but not done much night driving. However when I went out at the weekend with the adjuster set to '-' the headlights were practically parallel to the road! I've used the adjuster in the car to 3 to move it downwards but having read the above I'll now look for the thumbwheels on the headlight unit (cheers DGW ). Can anyone please tell me what this should be set to, eg if I'm parked 2 feet from a wall how far from the bottom of the wall should the headlights point?? Cheers, Balham
  5. Completely agree - got mine from there and will def be going back for the next one. Cheers, Balham
  6. I went for Britax ones for both the rear facing and forward facing seats (can't remember the exact model) - fit really well using the Isofix on the back seats of my VRs. Does anyone have any recommendations for protecting the back of the drivers seat as it is starting to get a little scuffed from my boy using it as a footrest. Cheers, Balham
  7. Yup, got mine retro-fitted and only have the beeps. Don't miss the display as when I'm reversing I want to be looking backwards not at the dashboard :P
  8. Has your mate been coming in for some stick on Pistonheads recently by any chance
  9. They're not Zeniths, but some graphite grey ones (not sure what make). It's also been lowered a bit as well to make it look more sporty. Was tempted by it but didn't want somethign that stood out so much!
  10. Vindis Skoda also have a white one - saw it in the flesh a few weeks ago and it looks very nice.
  11. Only got my VRS last week but had some concerns about the brakes. Phoned on Tuesday, booked in today and car returned this afternoon (following a clean inside and out, unrequested). They checked and found a recall on an egine code that wasn't done when I bought the car - not happy with Vindis in Cambridge about that - but checked brakes, went to MOT station brake testing machine, compared to other cars and gave it the all clear. So far, thumbs up for Progress! Cheers, Balham
  12. Just got my vrs and done some searching on here but I'm still a tad confused about the fixed / variable service thingy. After pointers on here I'll check my service book to see if there's a sticker to indicate what I'm on. I bought the car with 13,000 miles at which point they did an oil change service, so I'm assuming that the full service won't be due for a while longer. Regardless of which type I'm on the service indicator on the car dash will always tell me when it's due so I don't really have to worry? Sorry for the thicky questions! Balham
  13. So, just heard back from the dealer and they can't find anything wrong. They checked the brakes, compared to another car and went to MOT station to check on their brake testing machine - all came back OK. TBH I'm still not 100% convinced but service is due in November so will get the brake fluid changed then. While if you give it a hard press the car definitley slows down v quickly, it's still that instant retardation on the first bit of pressing the pedal that seems to be missing. Maybe it's just me?! Cheers, Balham
  14. I've got exacty the same problem in my 'new' MY06 VRS. Pedal travels about an inch or so before anythign happens - haven't tried an emergency stop yet but might find a quiet road tonight to see what happens. I test drove another one a couple of weeks ago which seemed to only need the lightest touch before lurching to a halt. So... do I need to go to the dealer where I bought the car (about an hour away) or can I just take it to my local dealer as a warranty job?? Cheers, Balham
  15. Having been for a long drive, I now have the OCD out of my system and agree that any extra miles are neither really here nor there now that it's sitting on my driveway! Cheers, Balham
  16. I think you're probably right - not the end of the world by any means as it's a great car!
  17. So, I've just collected my race blue Octy Vrs TFSI estate and I'm very happy. Except for one small thing... I've bought it second hand from a delaer (renaming nameless) and on my order form the mileage shows "12700 approx" and this is what I remember as the Autotrader ad said 12,600 so but I realised that a couple of test drives would add a bit on. However, since then (when I paid my deposit) and picking it up today the mileage is now just over 12,900. I queried this with the salesman and he said whoever wrote it down must have made a mistake. I argued for a bit saying that I'm pretty sure it was correct on the order form but he swore blind that it hadn't moved out of their lot. So... I've made the final payment and taken it home but instead of being happy I've got this niggling doubt that they continued to use the car for test drives after taking my deposit. While it's 'only' 200 miles more it's the principle that bugs me. So, good people of Briskoda, do I just say to hell with it, I've got my new car which is otherwise spot on or kick up a fuss?? Cheers, Balham
  18. Looks like you've done this before, Mo! Thanks for all of the ideas, looks like I'm going to have to get creative and pound the streets a bit to get some more ideas to add that fun element to it. Cheers, Balham
  19. Hello all - sorry should have clarified yes as we're in central London I was thinking of something along the lines of the underground or using the buses to get around. Someone else also suggested having bonus clues such as getting a photo taken with a celeb (or a look-a-like at least!). Foolishly I kind of volunterred myself for this thinking it would be easy.. next time I'll keep my mouth shut! Cheers
  20. Hello all, I've been tasked with setting up a treasure hunt for my department, based in central London. Has anyone ever done one of these before? I've got some rough ideas, but if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated! Cheers, Balham
  21. How are you finding the ZZ3's damo? I've just bought a pair myself. Cheers, Balham
  22. Hmm yes done some more digging and have now struck Dunlops off the list - thanks for the pointer. PS While not ideal I presume it's OK to leave Dunlops on the rear and just get something else for the front?
  23. Completely agree! Think I'll come here from now on to find out any facts as I've learnt far more from this forum than anywhere else
  24. Hi, Due to pick up my new (used) Octy vrs TFSI next week but need to get some front boots as the ones on there only have about 4mm. I think that standard tyre is the Dunlop SP Sportmax - any thoughts on this?? Cheers, Balham
  25. Yup that's it exactly! How do you find them??
