Cold air intake through winter
firestormwest replied to neil_f's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Can't see a problem as any larger lumps such as 'road salt' wont penetrate your filter. Would suggest very light dust during our long hot summers! could be as much if not more of an issue. Just my thoughts no scientific evidence..... i'm keeping mine on! -
Another remap question
firestormwest replied to Mattyd8551's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Just getting the remap done is fine. You will be amazed at the difference. You can always add on at a later date, panel filters and even my carbon air intake offers no real noticeable performance increase. Mine was rolling roaded see sign off with standard filter and Tesco 95 RON. -
Not sure many people will go with this new colour option..... call me old fashioned but White or Blue for me please!!

Not so lowered octy vrs
firestormwest replied to smithy961's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Totally agree with the above tho would change a 'lot of body roll' to 'some body roll!' i have 15mm spacers back and 11mm on front 'i think' -

It looks better when spacers are fitted front and rear! -
Custom Map tommorow @ Badger 5
firestormwest replied to vrspete's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
At the time it was all standard even the filter and 95 Ron fuel. I assume my map has sacrificed torque for BHP, I am more than pleased having lived with the map for 2.5 years! Im surprised the clutch handles the torque levels achieved by other maps. I don't think the CAI makes a lot of difference may get it RR again some time with the CAI, 97 RON and 40000 miles. -
Never buy a second hand helmet! Dropped helmets may look perfect but internally they could be spent.....same applies to hired lids, also nothing worse than someone else sweat leaking down your face as you squeeze on your rented helmet on a hot day!! A cheap helmet (£100.00) to BS/EN standards is good enough for a tin top.... try a few we all have different shaped heads that may suit a particular manufacture... I always use Shark or Shoei lived to tell the tale from a couple of bike crashes...

I have a dyno sheet for mine....... see below -
More road noise since fitting Lowering springs
firestormwest replied to ChrisRs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I also noticed a slight increase in noise when I had springs, spacers and Vreds all fitted and laser aligned at once. I personally think its the wheel spacers. I find turning up the sound system cures it though! -
At the weekend while fitting my CAI to my 3 year old Octavia VRS i was surprised to find a wiring loom that exits the bulkhead behind the battery box has been subject to some serious 'chaffing' by the battery box cover. The black insulation tape had been worn away and the actual cable insulation had started to be worn. I have wedged a piece of soft packaging type material to separate the surfaces and suggest others checking this loom as it could be a potential point of future failure! Hopefully mine is an isolated case.

Fitted the CAI kit last night, using JonnoVRS previously posted photo as the kit contains no instruction whatsoever!! Am i right in assuming the 10mm hole in bottom of the 'bell' is a water drain? Looks so much better under the bonnet tho! Very minor induction noise increase and seems to pull better higher up the rev range, tho even before the change the power never ceased to make me grin!! Conclusion....... inconclusive performance wise but looks better!

Adrian Flux cheapest broker for me for the past 2 years although and im a bit younger, mid 40's! To be honest the power increase on a mapped Tsi would more likely be 50+ BHP £111.00 is about 1.5 tanks of petrol.....tbh it would be money well spent, it transforms a good car into a brilliant car. The performance gains are worth that extra premium!
-
You will need to budget for wheel spacers, longer bolts and locking wheel bolts to get the best visual results. The drop is minimal, ride is slightly more firm/sporty not harsh in the slightest, the wife couldn't tell any difference! Did a track evening at Brands Hatch last week and it handled surprisingly well albeit a little bit too soft for the track, but it did embarrass some ''premium'' marques. My Vredstein sessantas tyres performed brilliantly, the best tyres I have ever had!

I would have thought that a modification to rectify a well documented fault would be more likely to enhance the value. I would go for petrol every time, however as you have, and like the car I would suggest the dpf removal and remap would be your most cost effective option.

Gathering some info on prices
firestormwest replied to easypug's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Why trade in a 2 year old car? Why would you want a diesel after a TSI I can only think you want better economy. If economy is the reason you would have to do a hell of a lot of mileage in the diesel to pay for what you are going to lose on your current petrol. Id seriously consider keeping the petrol! -
My remap unleashed an extra 60 BHP + with a slight improvement in economy. Every time I put my foot down my smile is so big I can't see the consumption read out! I get about 350 miles to a tank 95 Ron mixed driving. The other alternative trade it in for new Skoda Citigo!

If you push really hard the only thing likely to slip is you out of the seat, if my Vrs seat is anything to go by!! It will stick to the road like glue!

What category of security alarm inFL Octavia
firestormwest replied to SusanS's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
See my attached thread :- http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/233060-immobiliser-vrs/ I got a letter from Adrian Flux confirming that my car had a CAT 1 immobiliser. Not sure why they put this in their insurance terms if it is clear that a car has this as a standard fit item?? -
1st and last Skoda!
firestormwest replied to Insight-tech's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Having had 3 company Audis since 1998 my experiences are:- 1. Audi dealers are no better just charge (lots) more per hour! 2. Audis for me have proved less reliable my first 1998 A4 cambelt went at 2 years 60k miles (big bill), Second was ok for 3 years 80k, third A4 was a (2006) diesel DSG which regularly broke down in the first few months due to DSG issues, dealers and Audi technicians unable to get it right, luckily i got a new job and ditched it. Put me off diesel + DSG for life!! 3. Two Skodas no major issues cheap servicing, ok dealers and (much) less company car tax!! Its a myth to think that perceived 'premium' brands are better - the Directors where I work have had lots of issues with top of the range BMW's -
Black alloys and grill (de-chrome)
firestormwest replied to andy97's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
If the man likes black wheels, like me, he can have black wheels. They have been a standard Skoda option for some time now on FL models. I bought a new set of Black 18'' Neptunes from Hortons Skoda, black were 40% cheaper than standard boring finish. With a new set of Vredstein sessantas, Eibach pros and spacers all round I think they compliment the car and look good.... -
Just an update. Went with 16mm rear and 10mm front spacers and happy with the result. 16 new bolts and 4 x new locking nuts and new top mounts. First impressions of the Eibach springs, which I eventually went with, after 200 miles is good, ride feels much the same comfort wise, but the car feels more planted in corners.(could really do with a bucket seat and four point harnesses to hold me in place!) Pipercross panel filter went on as well.... cant tell any difference with this over the standard.... keep meaning to look to check it was actually put in!!

Invalidating skoda warranty
firestormwest replied to Lab_man's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I had two sets on a remapped Mk1 and they performed well, even on track days. I did have a set on the front of my remapped TSI they performed comparably to the original Contis but not as much grip as my new Vreds Sessantas  Bear in mind Hyundai put Kuhmos on a number of their cars OEM
