  1. One additional irritation, my son thinks he is harder to test drive cars if he has points in his licence. He managed to do 2-3 tests just before the points arrived and will bevswapping the S60 T5 for an Audi A4 40, which with a few decent extras works out cheaper than equivalent cars.
  2. Got told by my son today, as I thought, if it had been a few weeks later he’d have got a SAC, not too bad though, £100 & 3 points for 36 in a 30 Very lucky not to have been fined 1 week’s gross wages. Advised that his insurance will be £40-50 more.
  3. ACC is definitely worth the cash. Haven’t used Park assist, it’s fitted but quicker doing it myself. Might be more useful at night though.
  4. This might help, it appears to be a defined Golf R engine ...unless the 245 is also DNU engine?
  5. No violin needed. Yes it's the blame somebody else, something for nothing unethical and dishonest world. Thankfully there are still people out there who are prepared to run dealerships.
  6. @e-Roottoot is vw504 ok for 200KW variable servicing, or should it be 508? Otherwise it will be fixed at 12 months.
  7. The other side of the coin is, who'd want to be a dealer? Imagine having to barter regularly with Carwow-price toting knockdown merchants, some of whom squeeze every freebie and last drop of profit from the dealership and then don't patronise your business, only turning up for help when the car has a fault 6 months out of warranty. There's a fair balance on each side and the dealer needs to make some profit, to keep staff employed and the lights on in the mandated glossy saleroom. I imagine anybody who reads this and runs a business, employing staff, will draw similar conclusions. Of course we can always buy cars online but then again, where would many of the tyre kickers and test pilots (who have no intention of buying from that dealership) actually go?
  8. There are lots of remap threads on here. Common figures for Stage 1 for TSI 220-245 are about 300-310 BHP, with the 280/272 around 350 Bhp. The only difficulty for the Octavia will be putting the power down efficiently at lights and roundabouts. Once you're rolling it is a lot of fun and quick.
  9. That sounds odd. My car was registered in Aug 19, I bought it in Feb 20 with 2500 miles, serviced in this Dec at 8500 miles, it must have been on a long life schedule and the service indicator kept extending the more I drove it. Just prior to service I did a 500 mile trip and the service interval extended by another 3 weeks. I noted that the dealer switched it to VW504 and 12 month servicing as I had bought a plan which simply said, 2 services, with no time limit specified.
  10. I think the OP was asking about internals and variation in turbo, vice remap Top Trumps. My 220 VRS stage 1 torque was 480NM. The remap pub bragging rights will depend upon each mapper. In reality it’s how effective that translates to actual road use for most of us.
  11. Enjoy, I hope you have trouble free motoring and get some good hints and tips from the forum.
  12. I agree to an extent. There's difference to my mind, between classifying a risk as an inattentive/distracted driver caught doing 33 in a 30 and a deliberste white knuckle chase overtaking on double white lines at 95 on A roads. By the same token my last wife had multiple low speed careless crashes, including tearing the back door off my 6 week old pride and joy, yet when we separated (not because of the crashes! ) my premiums went up , because I wasn't married on a joint policy... I did try explaining but was ignored as single men are a higher risk. I tried explaining that they'd now be paying out less money on crash damage, to no avail. Bonkers !
  13. This from personal experience is most likely to be a corroded abs sensor ring in the wheel hub, which requires complete hub replacement.
  14. Lucky you, I was obviously with the wrong company when I got 3 points 20 years ago.
  15. Not yet John999boy. My son said he’d respond this month. His reasoning is that he may get a Speed Awareness Course vice points as then, the gap between his 1st SAC and the response, rather than actual committing of offence, will be then be 2 years. I like his cheek but fear that even the dimmest PC will be able to suss out his ruse and expect him to get 3 points accompanied by the resultant insurance premium increase The one plus point is that it will slow him up. It’s all my fault that he’s car mad.
  16. At least you got the goodwill. Could have been worse, out of warranty and serviced by non-Skoda, low mileage or not. £700 has to be better than £5K. Is it the 6 or 7 speed DSG?
  17. Go up a hill in 4th or 5th gear, put your foot down and if the revs rise but speed stays the same, your clutch needs replacing. My wife's 13 year old Sirion has 30,000 miles of urban short journeys and it judders on take up in 1st gear occasionally, just like this today on a damp morning. Otherwise it's fine.
  18. That works out to about the price of 2 services.
  19. Despite some criticisms levelled at the system, I have always found on my MkII and MkIII Octavia that it is pretty accurate, I.e. if it alarms, then there is a need to check. It's alerted me to hard to find sunken embedded nails and slow leaks caused by old alloys.
  20. Thanks, I will buy some Wurth gummi pflege then.
  21. Thanks, the video link shows the holes where I guess them to be, I am wondering if anybody has taken of the plastic inlay that covers them, I.e. you can’t see them at all, unlike the video, which shows a Golf sunroof.
  22. My car was serviced today and the dealership did a good job of regreasing the sunroof runners. To avoid blockages and leaks: 1. How do you access the drainage channel holes, as they seem to be hidden under the sunroof plastic inlay. Ie is it easy to remove and are the holes large enough to pass a thin cable or similar to check the drainage channels are clear. 2. Is there a recommended silicon liquid or gel to keep the rubber pliable and able to seal?
  23. Well done Colin, thanks to you and the team. It's an excellent source of info.
  24. I always thought a NIP had to be issued within approx 2-3 weeks. My son has just had a NIP 36 in a 30 from a hand held device in W Yorkshire in late August. The car us registered to him at his address so I don't know why ut took so long, unless it's a COVID thing. He says the CPS now have a lot longer. When did this change?
  25. Good luck with the group action. In the unlikely event that you can prove anything is wrong with Lane Assist, Skoda is notoriously the last of the VAG group to take responsibility for well-documented design faults. Lane Assist is is just part of the car’s overall safety aids. Until all UK roads are well marked I can’t see how we can have autonomous driving. The safest thing we as drivers can do is, drive to the prevailing conditions, take breaks to avoid nodding off at the wheel and declare known medical conditions.
