  1. we had ours treated with gardX when we bought it and find a weekly wipe with a clean wet cloth works.
  2. but if its in your own yard then ou will know if its raining so can go and close the windows:) honestly - how many people leave their windows open these days for any length of time. total waste of time this feature !!
  3. what a load of sh*te - i have a brain and will decided what is safe or not. i cant set my seat to my normal driving postion as it will no memorise. i do recline a bit more than some people but its not dangerous. anyway all i do is move it to where i want manually so why not let me store this on the memory. surely its more dangerous to be too close to the airbag but it doesnt stop you memorising a position too close. also its not consistent as the position can be memorised in some cars. its a fault/bug/**** up but they wont admit it !!
  4. 1.8t petrol. done over 3000 miles now and averages 35mpg on the trip computer for last 800 miles
  5. have you seen the new SEAT - based on an onld A4 and the rear end looks very similar to the superb I think.
  6.:confused::confused: this is the superb 2 forum section. yours is an octavia. you cant compare as they might be different !
  7. there is a jack under the seat ? mine is in the boot ! but back to the point - i have the upgraded sound and no storage box. I dont think there is room for a storage box so I am puzzled as to how jiframnes has got one. r u sure you have the upgraded sound ? have they put your amp somewhere else ?
  8.:eek: crikey you must have one hell of a knackered back !! i find the lumbar hurts when it is all the way out !!! your spin must be like a banana....an i though i had problems finding a comfy car seat !!!
  9. i notice the road noise. even on the 16" conti tyres (which were very quiet in the audi and passat) there is more road noise than I would have expected. I agree that the absence of other noise highlights this but then our outgoing A6 was quiet and didnt have as much road noise in the cabin.
  10. no pylons. have a sub station in my garden but its about 75m from the car and there are loads of other cars closer to it. mobile phone mast is at the other side of the village. maybe 1/4 mile away nevertheless - i dont expect these things to affect a car alarm . been here for 10yrs and not affected any other cars. dont hear loads of car alarms going off in the village !!
  11. thats down to the sound characteristics of the ipod. if you burn an mp3 track to a cd and play it vs the original CD the difference will be undetectable. The problem, in my opinion, with the ipod is that whilst it might be an iconic design and a nice piece of equipment the sound quality is inferior to many other mp3 players on the market.
  12. thought about that . not sure how it would look though with the raised edge around it. am wondering about getting some more decals made (only cost £10 for 4) exactly the right size and sticking them direct to the wheel with no centre cap.
  13. anyone got any bright ideas.... my new wheels take 65/67mm VW centre caps. I have had some self adhesive decals made (they are very good and have a gel coating so look very professional). The problem is the original VW centre caps are convex / domes. The badge is flat. try as i might I cant get the flat badge to curve without it looking terrible. Ideally some 65mm centre caps with a flat surface will do the trick but i cant find any of these. any ideas welcome. i tried gringind the dome flat but this does not work as there is a danger of me grinding right through the plastic before i get it flat. i am at a loss now so any help woudl be really appreciated
  14. you can go off people you know !! interestingly i too have the rain closing issue as well
  15. i have the car back now with a new alarm siren unit fitted. its just a waiting game now to see if the alarm goes off. i will make sure my keys are near me all the time and will try and make a note of the time and circumstances if it does go off.
  16. whilst I agree and am no way defending anyone, i feel that I have had to give them adequate opportunity to solve the issue. I think we have NOW reached that point. One of the problems here is that when they think they have solved the problem it can take a week or two to ascertain that they havent actually fixed it - this is due ot the alarm only going off sporadically. Its not a fault that can be immediately noticed- ie if the wheel bearing was knackered it woudl be obvious as soon as i collected the car if they had fixed it or not. This has obviously delayed things. When a fault was picked up on a door sensor and the sensor was replaced we all believed the fault to be fixed - until 2 weeks later when the alarm went off again. The new sounder unit was on back order (why ? on a new vehicle ? ) but it arrived on saturday at the local dealers and they are fitting it now. We will hopefully get the car back asap and then sit and wait, with bated breath, and hope the alarm is OK. If it goes off again then I will be in a tricky position - i will have to take it to the supplying dealer which is 200 miles away for them to look at it. I will not get anywhere with a rejection until they have been given a chance to look at it. although I might be able to argue that since skoda uk central technical have been involved what can the supplying dealer do that my local dealer cant ?
  17. thanks - yes we did this weeks ago as this was our first thoughts. we also had the sensitivity of the interior sensors reduced.
  18. i see ! and also we have had the alarm go off when these sensors were manually disabled (with the button on the B pillar)
  19. all mine are ripped at a fixed rate of 128 and you cant tell the difference between the original CD and the MP3 in the car environment. you only have 18GB of space for music on the columbus so best to stickwith MP3 at a low rate as you will not tell any difference (anyone who says you can is just being too techy and theoretical about it !!! LOL)
  20. I challenge anyone to tell the difference between a CD and an MP3 track (ripped at a decent bit rate) in a moving car. The sound system is good and I tried to tell the difference and I cant. I am not an audiophile to the point of being anal but I do like good sound and spent a decent amount on the home hifi but I simply coudl not tell. on a similar note did you see the blind listening test on the gadget show where they put vinyl vs CD vs MP3 and MP3 came out best ? ipod / hard drive is a dam site more convenient than having CDs as well !!
  21. its only a car - not worth getting stressed about. no-one got hurt !!
  22. what i dont understand is why many of you are suggesting interfernce from and external source. The alarm is not a radio controlled device surely ? its a hard wired unit controlled by the central ECU. any external signals (taxis, doorbells, microwaves have all been mentioned) would not have any effect. surely they are as likey to have an effect on the alarm as they are on ,say, the electric seat or interior light ? the central locking is operated via a radio wave from the keyfob but this i not directly linked to the alarm. the opening of the doors with the keyfob sets off a chain of events - one of which is the alarm being disarmed. any spurious radio signal in theory could operate the doors but not the alarm in isolation ,surely ? please correct me if I am wrong but I am just using a logic thought process and cant make the link from a spurious radio signal to the alarm being triggered.
  23. well - there is an interesting question. The problem they have is they are getting different codes . first couple of times it pointed to a dodgy door sensor which was replaced then it pointed to a low voltage issue - which led them up the misguided path of blaming a reduced charge in the battery. They are now working on the theory that a low voltage is being received by the alarm horn unit due to a faulty horn unit. I remain to be convinced.
