  1. and has muddy pedals!
  2. Try turning the ignition off mid wipe, obviously not while driving along the road. Look at the blade of the wiper it should be trailing, eg leaning away from the direction of travel. If the blade looks as though it's leaning towards the direction of travel then that would cause it to jump. Normally this is a problem when the blades get old and less flexible, especially when left parked for long periods where there has been no rain.
  3. I remember reading somewhere its down to humidity, damp air (misty) gives a better performance. In the old days I'm sure that some blown engines (supercharged) used to deliberately add moisture to the mix to increase power. Looking at it from an (ex) Firefighters point of view, more energy is absorbed by a fine mist than a jet with larger droplets. Perhaps the combustion process is slowed by the increased humidity level of the mix and therefore prolongs the burn cycle.
  4. I think its purely down to supply and demand, when I was looking around and trying to decide between a brand new yeti and a late used one (I have never bought a totally brand new car before) the pricing gap between the 2 made no sense not to purchase a brand new vehicle and have no fears about what had happened to the vehicle before I bought it. A good number of the vehicles that we were interested in (especially the ex demo's with very low mileage and <1yr old were all at or above RRP) I called one dealer and they were unrepentant in their pricing, saying that they can easily sell at that price! As we are now approaching the "Grey years" this will (probably) be our last major car purchase - so the depreciation costs are much less of an issue. Yes I have joined the long wait, but in some ways its no worse than booking a holiday months in advance, there are lots of things I have to do that are yeti related before it arrives, and there is a lot to learn from the forum.
  5. Hmm, think I'll take anything motoring.co.uk says with a pinch of salt. Did anyone else notice that in their list of new cars skoda do not rate a mention. On the other hand that major car maker we all know and love, the ssangyong gets a mention, doh!
  6. I think that's the approach that mark fox is hoping to adopt, his view is (now) that there seems to be sufficient demand for this, so it should be an option for all not just those of us that read about it here. However I am not convinced that the next person who tries will have an easier task!
  7. Wooo hoo!! Mark Fox from SUK called this afternoon to confirm 16" feet will be supplied. Also gave me a build date of week 38, which is a few weeks earlier than first thought, but there is time for slippage I guess. Mark also said that SUK are hoping to make the 16" wheels a dealer option soon, in the meantime he is happy for anyone who wants that option to contact SUK and he will arrange for it to happen...
  8. Hi I have a white car too (and its not a yeti - still waiting for that!) I have the same problem. Its obviously rubber residue, and I agree its unsightly. Don't know how to stop it though...
  9. Like oldstan (who has been fairly vociferous on the hyundai forum!) I also have an i10. I got a very good deal on a pre-reged model from a dealer with 20 miles on the clock. Now that I have done 3k+ miles in it I find it very nippy and not too bad on fuel at 49mpg (its a 1.2 Active manual). My biggest concern is the build quality - its all a bit lightweight and doesn't instill the confidence that you get with a VAG vehicle. I used to own (and love hugely) a Octavia TDi estate before the i10. We had no need for 2 big cars (the wife has a 320d). Obviously build quality costs money, which is why the citigo is not the cheapest city car around. But as the yeti (which we have on order) proves, the main question is about value for money and from what I can see the citigo will have that in spades. Having driven a "city car" for a while now I can see the advantages in and around town. I still hugely overestimate its length when reversing up against something!!. So my plans are to keep the i10 for now and then upgrade to a citigo in a couple of years time. Once the "new model" rough edges have been worn off.
  10. Having just lost a parent to Cancer, who most definitely did not want to "accept" or "put up with it" as freshacre so nicely put it. I adopted my mothers approach which was to face things head on, not give up until the last minute nor take the first, second ... knock downs without a fight. I now have had my order modified so that "Not" will arrive with 16" feet... Now it wasn't easy as others here will testify, eventually I managed to speak to Mark Fox, who has changed my order for me. I will get final confirmation on Thursday. So you can now add me to the list of those that has (or will have) modified yeti's as far as rolling gear is concerned.
  11. Wheels update ..... On the 8th May I emailed Mark Fox with my plea to have my order changed for the 16" Rims. I gave a number of reasons for my request. By last Monday - 14th May, having been blanked by Mark, I thought I would try the SUK Customer services approach. I explained my reasons for the change to the operative, who said she would go away and ask someone for guidance. A little later she called back and said that it was not possible to change the rims for the 16" versions as I had placed the order! She said that the dealer should have done it. I reminded her that the 16's are not a stock option and the only people who could change the order were SUK themselves. The Plumber had given me his order change confirmation code which I then quoted to her and also mentioned that a number of others on this forum had achieved the spec change. This all fell on stony ground, I don't think that they are aware of this forums existence. After pressing the point a little longer she told me that she would make a note on my order of the points I had made and escalate it to one of her supervisors - who would call me within 72hrs. That time is up today. Whilst all this was going on i was PM'ing with threeshoes who is on a similar campaign. He told me that he had recd a reply from Mark Fox that morning, regarding his Wheel change request. Spurred on by this news I decided that I would send another email to Mark (assuming that Monday was his day for clearing emails). Guess what - its now weds and still no reply. I sort of get resistance to step outside of the company line by the support telephonists, but to blatantly ignore emails is a pretty poor show. Tomorrow I'll be back on the phone and asking for some answers (unless I get a call this afternoon, but i'm not holding my breath...)
  12. I am hoping to stay well away from the town centre during the Limpics, even though I sail (and race) locally, the whole event has been bad for the town. The seafront is being closed to traffic, what was once a public park has been commandeered for paying spectators. We have a truly awful "intelligent" traffic light system - where we once had roundabouts, which means you have to stop at a junction in the small hours when the only other things that are around are Gulls (and Mr Plod!). Many guest houses say they have no bookings over the period as their regular customers have stayed away. The biggest problem is the best way to watch a sailing race is either as a competitor or on the TV. However I welcome you to our town, please don't go away too disappointed!
  13. Are you saying that the discount / voucher applies for having to wait too long? I was under the impression that a 5-6 month wait is standard, my (tentative) delivery date is Nov - the order has not been in long enough for anything more concrete
  14. Blimey - we live in weymouth and have ordered a Platinum Grey one - or whatever the colour is called this week!

I have some wooden cartwheels somewhere that would give a softer ride than that - yuk!
  16. Around these parts, bearing in mind we have don't an inch of motorway and barely any dual carriageways, The vast majority of hgv's of all categories, consistently drive at more than 40mph on roads that are rated 50 or 60. Which is just as well otherwise there would be big queues behind with no opportunity to overtake.
  17. Not one ....... either in a drive or on the road in a 4 hour trip from Weymouth - Bristol and back. Perhaps they dont like the somerset levels?

    Used YETI

Ad says 2010 60 plate but picture Shows 51 plate vehicle, wonder which it is?
  19. This forum is well behaved compared to many of the others. I use forums extensively, especially when researching a new purchase. I have found this one to be (by and large) full of useful information, provided by helpful people.
  20. But it does mention VW golf diesels, isn't this the same lump as used in the 140 & 170's?
  21. Hi I expect this is a dumb question (and yes I have searched for an answer, but not been successful) How does the tyre pressure monitoring system work? Will the fitting of winter wheels (be they steel or alloy) affect that. My better half has run flats on her 320d and this has tyre pressure monitoring on it. I have seen that it is a requirement for run flats. Cant see any difference in the valve caps, is there some sort of port and spigot in the wheel itself? Also I have read that MOT's in the future will be checking these systems if fitted, if the wrong wheels are on and it doesn't work then its a failure - I guess!
  22. Up until the point that we ordered our 140 4x4 Elegance - I was checking the prices for low mileage late models with a similar spec. I even came across a couple that were dearer than retail book price. I called one seller, it was an ex demo of course and when I told him that it cost more than a new one, he was quite open and said that he would have no problem selling it. One thing that does confuse me is the situation regarding VAT on used cars. An Ex demonstrator with 6k miles on the clock is used (isnt it?) and therefore should not have VAT payable, which makes it even more expensive.
  23. I am not sure how you can accurately calculate fuel economy between wheel and tyre variations as the rolling distance (circumference) will be different between the variations. Your odometer will over / under read the distance travelled in comparison to the "as supplied" configuration. Even this is confusing - there are differences between the 16 and 17" standard fit when it comes to distance travelled, check out the excellent tyre guide here.
  24. Hi, I have been offered a set of alloys from an A3. As far as I can tell the spec seems to be compatible with the dimensions in the tyre and wheel guide. Would someone be good enough to tell me that I am ok with these for my winters. Dimensions Studs 5x112 Offset 50 6.5J rim I know some people suggest a 7J rim but in truth I prefer a narrower tyre in the wet and slushy conditions. Thanks
