Funny door action
This has the sound and feel of the EGR issue a few years ago. Skoda and the rest of VAG were inundated with complaints about failing valves. I had sold my 3 year old 12 plate Yeti to a friend. Within months it had gone into limp mode, requiring a replacement valve. Which required a major dismantling of the engine to replace. Skoda UK picked up the bill, as a ‘goodwill’ gesture. Shortly after my daughter purchased a 3 year old Tiguan from a VW dealer. Over the next 5 months she had no less that 3 EGR’s replaced, eventually rejecting the car, which was replaced with a new petrol Tiguan on the same finance deal as her 3 year old one. It would seem that door locks on 3 year old cars are becoming another Achilles heel. I’m guessing the locks are common across VAG, so there must be similar issues, which may account for the lack of replacements.

1.5 SEL first gear issue.
This is heartening news. I have a April 2018 octavia 1.5 that suffered with those problems as well as revving to over 2k when lifting clutch when stationary and in reverse. a number of ECU updates removed / reduced most of the problems. Having said that i still had no confidence in a smooth pull away 100% of the time. Now have a Karoq on order (admittedly its a DSG this time - which would help), and hoping that things have improved. I complained to Skoda UK so many times that they gave me a £300 voucher - which I have spent on accessories for this one!

Another tow bar query
Hmm Makes the factory fit option of £885 seem a reasonable spend.

MY21 Amundsen Map update procedure
Whilst not a map update question this is related to an oddity with Skoda sat nav’s Does anyone with the latest MIB have any experience of driving in Europe. Does the clock update automatically? I have a 2018 Octavia, with a new Karoq due for delivery in May. The octy refuses to update the clock to the new timezone on entering France. It will advise me that the speed limits are x,y,z dependent on various road types, but not change the clock - regardless of the ‘set clock by GPS’ setting. I am convinced my previous 2015 Octavia did change the clock, it even changed the headlamp alignment (because it had Bi-Xenons) - just seems we are going backwards with functionality!

DSG noise
How can you tell which type of gearbox you have?

New SE L boot rattle
Not quite what I said.. The larger rims are specified to lower emissions, not economy.

New SE L boot rattle
I know this is a bit 'after the event', but for £130 you can specify 18" Rims on an SEL when ordering from new. Not entirely a satisfactory result, but anything to get rid of those rubber bands for tyres must be a positive. I have asked many times (of Skoda UK) why they insist on supplying their vehicles with such large rims. The answer is 'its all to do with emissions!! Aparently bigger rims give better figures. The odd thing that they can never answer is why you can buy a 16" rim as an official aftermarket item direct from Skoda! In fact there was a whole load of discussion on this subject nearly 9 years ago over in the Yeti Forum. In those days it was possible to ask Skoda UK to change a digit on the computer to use the same wheels as fitted to a lesser model of Yeti

Wheels
I dislike large rims with a vengance. I also dislike having to have a larger rim size just because I choose a higher spec model. Many years ago (2012) a number of us on here managed to get Skoda UK to change the rim size on our factory ordered Yeti SEL's from 17" to 16". Potholes (especially in rural areas) will mangle any of these stagecoach sized rims and tyres in an instant. We now have a Karoq on order - same problem 18" rim size is minimum on an SEL - why FFs. If a 16" rim is acceptable (in terms of design regulations and brake caliper clearance) - why cant I have some of them? I prefer the less noisy and softer ride of a 16" wheel. I dont want to go around corners like an F1 driver.

GPS Clock setting - stupid system!
Having owned a number of Octy's my current one (which replaced a 15 plate) has been having an issue changing the clock time when going to France. The previous one had no problem (it also changed the beam pattern automatically - because it had Bi Xenons). The current car doesnt do either - It has LED headlights, and to my mind even changing the setting has no noticeable effect on beam diffusion. We (until the virus intervened) used to go to France often. Everytime on arriving in France it would tell me that the speed limits are x,y,z etc. The clock however remained stuck on UK time, despite having the 'Set Clock by GPS' setting enabled. Every time we came back to the UK I would complain, the car would go in, and they would apply 'a fix'. We managed to scoot away at the end of June - problems still there. In it went again. This time I get a mind boggling reason as to why the clock wont change - and is never likely to, given that we always return to the same place. According to Skoda Technical (and people at the factory), the setting of the clock is determined by longitude only!!! If I want the clock to change I have to drive further East, quite how far was never explained. The area covered by Central European time is vast, I cannot beleive that I have to drive as far as Austria or Poland for it to change. Given that the GPS system is capable of placing the car quite precisely on a road, I find it odd that it cannot derive the local time from those co-ordinates. Other devices seem to manage, but not, apparently a 2018 plated MkIII Octy... Pffft!!!
