  1. Ah, I miss read the on screen instructions, I understood the bit about not happening whilst the vehicle was being driven, and assumed that it had to be stationary... duh!
  2. Well - not for me After leaving the car unlocked on the drive with the ignition on (Car was blocked in by another locked vehicle) for 2 and a half hours I was still at the 75% done marker. So I gave up and switched off, I have better things to do with my life, such as tidying the garage 🥱
  3. Spot the mistake - what hope do we have ?
  4. Why the need for a tracker in the first place? Is there a high likelihood that your car will be stolen? Thankfully Skoda’s are not high on the list of most popular cars to steal.
  5. That’s what you might think, but no. Yesterday I contacted SUK Via the chat feature. The operator (who may have been in an Asian country) didn’t know the answer, and suggested I speak to their ‘digital support team’ for whom she provided a number. On contacting them, they had no idea either, despite me reminding them that they were the so called digital support them. They then connected me to my dealer, where I spoke to someone who didn’t know the answer either, but at least he confirmed that there didn’t appear to be anything adverse on the system and if the problem persists they would investigate when the car goes in for its first service in September. So there you have it, a random message that no-one can explain and appears to have no material effect!
  6. Indeed, I want to disable the silly hand waving gesture thing. I dont need it, but after lots of menu diving cant seem to find. Maybe you can't!
  7. recently I have been getting software update messages. One on Friday and another today. The Friday update seemed to complete OK. I was sat outside the hairdressers waiting for the missus. I also got this… Any ideas?
  8. Being somewhat shorter than 6’ my 31” legs used to suffer on a 5 hour drive down through France in our 2 last Octys. I like to drive with the seat back in a fairly upright position, I get back ache if the seat leans back too much. I found that the leading edge of the standard (SEL) seats used to make my right thigh muscle tight after a while. I also found that having my wallet in my back pocket didn’t help either, (and no - it is not stuffed with fivers!) We spec’d the electric seat for the Karoq, after some experimentation with the various settings I now have a seat that is a joy to sit in. Not been to France yet, but a couple of 3hr drives in the UK have been fine.
  9. I still havent made my mind up about whether Cruise Control is more or less economical than driving normally. My simplistic view is that CC cannot anticipate road conditions. For example when climbing a hill it will keep piling on the fuel until it reaches the top. I on the other hand can see the crest coming and can lift off slightly ahead of time and allow momentum to carry me over to top. We drive dlown to mid France quite often, and over the years have driven the same 5hr journey in a diesel DSG Octy (with ACC) and a petrol 1.5Tsi Octy with standard CC. Best MPG was in the diesel (unsurprisingly) without CC, mind you my right foot ached like hell at the end... In June we will be taking the Karoq for its first foray, I do have my concerns that we will need to refuel before we get there!
  10. Here is a pic of our Karoq on its 16's. Some might say it looks odd, but the diameter of the wheel / tyre combination is exactly (it has to be) the same as other rim sizes. Neither of us require the F1 type handling that low profile tyres afford, we prefer a softer more relaxed approach.
  11. Hah - you think it would be the other way round, seeing as Dorset is downhill from London - must have been the headwind!
  12. Hi I think you may have misread the manual which states that the permitted Rim size for the fitment of snow chains is 16" There is no mention of a size restriction in relation to the use of 16" rims generally, nor that winter tyres need to be fitted on 16" rims. When swapping my OEM 18"'s for 16's I checked with Skoda UK and my dealer that 16" rims were allowed for normal / all season road tyres, both said yes no problem. I called my insurance company (LV) to inform them of the change and they just made an update to my declaration regarding the vehicle for no additional charge (either administrative or on the premium)
  13. Once upon a time Skoda used to offer All season tyres as an option on new cars (I think it was an Octavia). When we bought our 4x4 Yeti ten years ago I purchased a second set of alloys and ran full winters over the winter months. Twice a year I used to fight my aching knees and back and swap them over. I even continued this process with our first Octavia. By the time the second Octavia arrived I decided to swap over the Cross Climates and save myself the hassle of changing wheels. Where I live the amount of snow days (combined with the need to actually go anywhere on those days) are very small, but nevertheless the cross climates are so much better in wet / frosty conditions and quieter to boot. When the Karoq arrived I bit the bullet, sold the 18’s after 2 weeks and downsized to a set of 16’s with Cross Climates with a proper sidewall. I now have a car that is much quieter, with a less harsh ride, and with improved grip in all situations I am likely to find myself in. Yes it was an expensive exercise, but the sale of the 18’s cross funded the cost of the wheels, so in effect I only paid for the tyres.
  14. 10 fillings since new last september, average overall 38.15 according to Sprit Monitor.. Almost all driving is local, apart from one or two longer journeys. Will be interesting to see what I get on a trip down to central France in June.
  15. Indeed, but needing brakes all the way down none the less. PS - I have driven 2 of those 3 as well. I have also (many years ago) driven coaches in the Swiss alps, on descents there you have to switch between telma retarders and brakes to avoid fade due to overheating.
  16. Abbostbury hill - on the coast road between Bridport and Weymouth falls 140m (give or take) over a horizontal distance of 1.4km. Speed is restricted to 50mph At its steepest the gradient is 17% (1 in 3 in old money)
  17. Lovely PRS example in this one…
  18. Hmm, not sure what I think about those… Will discs overheat on long downhill braking? Nobody seems to use gears for retardation anymore, judging by the people I follow down hills
  19. 0278, definitley does remote destination input I still prefer to use Waze - my phone is much better placed in my eye line just above the air vent on the right of the dashboard, than looking at a screen in the middle of the car. I use the central display zoomed out when driving abroad so that I can see the relative positions of towns that are less well known to me.
  20. Just to throw a spanner in the works.. Our Karoq was collected at the end of Sept 2021. A while ago I had a message appear that said the 'software' needed updating, and that this would NOT happen when the car was moving!!! I hit OK and left it to its own devices (I'm assuming it does it in chunks when the ignition is on but the engine is not, actually I have no idea how it works) Anyhow - having read this thread here is my 2 pennorth... My Software version is 0278, and the maps database is version 21.11. Apart from pressing OK sometime last year I have done nothing else. Now, this is not to say I dont have any issues. Try as I may I dont seem to be able to add my missus as a second user (key holder)? We have driver personalisation, and the electric chair, I am keen to get the electrocution of the subsidiary driver set up 😉. I have spoke to the 'tech' who is supposed to know about these things. To be fair he did seem knowledgable. He checked my Skoda connect account and all was well. Inclusing passing the validation checks. He suggested doing a factory reset (wiping all settings) and starting again. I did this about a week ago. There were initial issues in me becoming the primary user, this resolved itself after 24hrs - I have been told before that the 'server end' of this system is unreliable! I am going to have to make an appointment to see the 'expert' so he can show me exactly how to make it all work --- I am not hopeful...
  21. Without wishing to be pedantic, but the setting being on Auto, does not mean that the headlights are actually illuminated. Try turning the switch to ‘On’, the last setting clockwise.
  22. This may seem mildly obvious, but I am sure the washers only operate if the lights are already on. This is certainly how they worked on my previous Octavia. Without testing my Karoq, I am confident that mine work the same way.
  23. So, according to your list driver personalisation is not lost if the Connect subscription is not renewed... Yet if my missus doesn’t use the car for a while she has to log back in again to get her settings back from the cloud, which is annoying for her as she has shorter legs than me and always forgets how to manually adjust the electric seat to her settings..
  24. You have to stick your foot down. A few years ago (when the EGR problem first appeared) my daughter had purchased a 3 year old, ex lease / low mileage, Tiguan from a VW dealer. Within a matter of weeks, it had broken down with a failed EGR valve. It had to be recovered from the roadside. She was given a replacement car. Her Tiguan was returned after 2 weeks so called fixed. 3 days later it broke down again, she had he 2 small children in the car at the time, same problem. We suspect the original valve had been cleaned up or a second hand unit used. There was a shortage of EGR valves due to the failure rate across the VAG group. Her sister is a solicitor, and wrote a letter on her behalf giving them one more attempt at a fix or seeking a replacement. It was fixed and failed a third time. After much ‘discussion’ and her not being prepared to accept a diesel replacement VW supplied her with a brand new Petrol version. There being no petrols made of the same age. In fact from the time she took ownership of the original Tiguan to the delivery of the replacement, she had a replacement car for longer. The Moral.... start the process early.
  25. Spotless set of Trinity's from my new Karoq. Removed less than 1500 miles from delivery No marks, scratches, kerbing etc. Tyres are in 'as new' condition.
