  1. I think its the gas in the struts expanding, our Octavia did the same thing
  2. I have never worked out how something so light as a bug manages to get squished by a car. You would think that the airflow would push them up and over things like bumpers and windscreens.
  3. In truth I think its a pointless piece of rubber. I just push downwards on the bottom of the tail gate in the manner that I have always done ever since my first hatchback probably 30 years ago!
  4. Absolutely, first time it happened to me i nearly had a heart attack. When you know you are going to hit something your mind is prepared for the crunch. When you know for sure there is nothing to hit and a tall weed slams the brakes on the pulse rate goes through the roof..
  5. Skoda seem to be unable to make their minds up on how this should work. I had a 15 plate Octavia which would change the beam pattern automatically on arrival in France, I’m convinced it also changed the clock setting (set time by GPS was selected in infotainment). I now (until tomorrow) own an 18 plate Octavia, which does neither. Even when you manually change the ‘driving side’ I see no real change in the headlight pattern, and I have been flashed by French drivers, mind you I get flashed by English drivers who don’t like the brightness of the LED’s as opposed to the actual direction of them. When questioning SUK about the lack of clock setting I was informed that it only changed based on longitude, which in my mind is pathetic. We (in normal times) do a lot of driving in France and I never rely on the in built navigation system, other than to give me a zoomed out view of my overall journey. Waze on my phone is a much better system as you get realtime routing information.
  6. Yes - I think it is generally agreed that this issue does not affect the DSG versions of the 1.5 engine. The software that runs the gearbox reacts much more quickly than our minds could ever do, and will smooth out the 'nose diving / kangarooing' motion that happens with the 1.5 manual version.
  7. Hah, this is a very good point. Whilst my wallet is far from 'Fat' it does have rather a lot of cards in it. Pre Covid we used to drive quite a lot of long journeys (especially 5 hour ones in France), I noticed in our Octavia that I was getting a lot of sciatica pain and a tense thigh muscle. I concluded that there were two issues, firstly my wallet was giving me the sciatica and the front of the seat was too high which was causing the muscle pain. I Have jacked the seat up (using the seat height adjustment) and made the seat back more vertical, which has almost removed the muscle pain Now I take my wallet out and stuff it in the Jumbo box, which has solved the sciatica problem. I have ordered the electric seat for the Karoq, so I am hoping there will be better adjustment of the front edge of the seat height.
  8. Pfft....i think I would start making noises along the lines of the vehicle does not seem to be fit for purpose and now considering your options under the Consumer rights act 2015... this may help... Which article
  9. Yes I have had similar, when doing a 3 point turn in a country lane. The damn things went off because of long grass, I wondered what the hell had happened, apart from the violent loss off speed the noise was something as well.
  10. As others will testify, and have written here previously, retro fitting a tow bar is not just a case of bolting some iron onto the chassis and scotch blocking into the electrics for lights. There are a number of considerations. Factory fitted towing equipment often comes with uprated engine cooling systems. The ECU needs to be able to detect when there is something plugged into the socket, this will disable certain functions and modify the effect of others. Such as proximity detection when reversing and stability control. Over the years I have had cars with a factory fit tow bar and some without. I always get the feeling I wish I had opted for it every time, even though I rarely tow anything, but we do have a ball mounted bike rack. If you go for a retro fitted one make sure the electrics are done properly and the ECU is able to recognise when a load is attached. I doubt anyone who has this done goes through bother of getting uprated cooling though!
  11. Hmm, we ordered ours at the end of February, its supposed to be being built this week. Which is 3 months
  12. This is the way forward, when getting the dealerships to agree there is a problem. Otherwise you get the ' we have had it all day, and cant replicate the issue' response. The only other success I had was with our Citigo, the radio would sometimes fail to work when you stopped (at a petrol station say), turned the ignition off and back on again 4-5 minutes later. This happened when I was close to the dealers, so I drove it there and demanded a 'technician' come out and look at it. Eventually they replaced the head unit...
  13. Hmm - Interesting. Did you opt for the full size spare or the space saver? Our Karoq (1.5 Tsi Auto - SEL) has a space saver as part of the spec. This was ordered on the 24/02/21 - VED is showing as £215. I'm wondering if I will suffer the same fate. Oddly it would seem that the electric chair!!! and a floppy tow bar thingy don't seem to affect the VED rating, despite the extra weight. Strange how your vehicle is almost ready for collection and ours is not due to be built till the end of May according to SUK and week 25 (21st June) according to the dealer....
  14. Hmm, seems to be getting worse. Makes you wonder how many others suffer the same problems, given that the number of Karoq owners who are also contributors to this forum must represent a very small fraction of the total number of Karoq owners.
  15. Interesting, when speaking to Skoda UK today regarding my build week (the dealer and SUK can’t seem to agree on which week is what), I asked about the Face lift and the bloke denied all knowledge of one... Mind you that may well be down to the efficiency of the SUK chat operator!!!
  16. I totally agree with your sentiments here. Unfortunately the ‘internet’ of everything has seen pointless functionality being added to the most bizarre range of appliances and equipment. However one must not forget that with these additions comes the right of the purchaser to expect them to work as designed and marketed. Many decades ago cars were extremely basic, advancements in those days included such things as power assisted steering and brakes. A car radio with maybe a tape player was also a ‘luxury’. Over time these things have become standard. I can’t see anyone buying a car where you have to wrestle with the steering wheel to park. The over reliance on technology to get hapless drivers out of predicaments is based on the fact that such assistance should work correctly all the time. Just imagine what would happen if these systems chose to work randomly or worse still not at all when needed. I would argue that any feature of a new vehicle that is described and sold as working in a particular manner carries equal weight as any other feature, otherwise if we accept anything less the manufacturers can basically sell us any old rubbish and fob us off with excuses when things don’t work as one might expect.
  17. Must be some sort of glitch in the sat nav. Every time we go to France(in our 18 plate Octavia) we get the new speed limit warnings, but have to set the ‘drive on the right” headlamp settings via the setup menu. The previous Octy with Bi Xenons just changed the alignment automatically. Apparently it is too complicated for the LED’s to do the same. Progress? I think not...
  18. Yup would agree with that - just push the stick to the left and use it like a sequential gear change. Used it a lot, especially for engine braking, when I had the DSG box. New Karoq will go back to DSG... :-)
  19. I’m wondering what would happen if someone (me perhaps) was to reject a new vehicle within the 30 day rule as ‘not fit for purpose’. I have one on order which is due for delivery end of June. World chip shortage permitting!
  20. I’m guessing it is a manual? sounds like an issue with the ECU. That engine has all manner of idle control programming. Our current car an 18 plate Octavia (manual) used to rev up to about 2k as you lifted the clutch when in reverse. An ‘anti stall’ measure said Skoda. It was fixed by an update to the ECU. As others have suggested take it back to the dealers. Try to get phone video footage (you will need your passenger to do this)! Otherwise you may get the ‘we can’t replicate’ response from the service dept.
  21. Sadly, I have found the common response to any issue from a dealer is generally “we cannot replicate the problem”. I have had many issues with my 18 plate Octavia and auto time updating when abroad. I now take video footage on my phone and send it to my sales guy. I find he has more ‘leverage’ with the workshop staff.
  22. At least you now have a direct line phone number!
  23. Before the pandemic arrived we used to go to France a lot, we have friends who have a place that is a 5hr drive down from Cherbourg. We have run 2 Octavias during this period. The first a 15 plate with Bi-xenons and then an 18 plate with LED headlights. The 15 plate used to warn us when we arrived in France, about speed limits and adjust the headlight beam accordingly. I am convinced it adjusted the clock also. The 18 plate refuses point blank to change the time, despite the GPS setting, or change the headlight setting. I have raised this with my dealer and directly with SUK. Neither could tell me what the ‘set time by GPS’ actually meant. I have had a number of updates to the infotainment system to try and fix the issue. Obviously, testing is a problem. The last fix was attempted last year, we managed to get away in June, still no joy! On my return I complained once again. Eventually I got an answer from the manufacturers. Apparently the ‘set time by GPS’ parameter is only calculated based on Longitude!! For the clock to change you have to drive far enough East (or West I guess), then it will advance to the correct time. I have pointed out to my dealer and SUK that this is absolute nonsense, that in this day and age where satellite positioning is in almost every device and even watches and phones can calculate time and distance run and place your location on a map, to have a system in a car that sets the time based on just half of a location value is plain stupid. Of course the same argument holds true for daylight saving time. Having to tick/untick a box twice a year to make the adjustment is equally stupid. It would seem that SUK agree, as they gave me a £300 voucher to be spent on accessories, in an attempt to placate me... It still baffles me that there is a setting in the infotainment system that fails to do what it describes. More people should complain to their dealers and SUK. At the end of the day the fix must just be a coding change.
  24. This has the sound and feel of the EGR issue a few years ago. Skoda and the rest of VAG were inundated with complaints about failing valves. I had sold my 3 year old 12 plate Yeti to a friend. Within months it had gone into limp mode, requiring a replacement valve. Which required a major dismantling of the engine to replace. Skoda UK picked up the bill, as a ‘goodwill’ gesture. Shortly after my daughter purchased a 3 year old Tiguan from a VW dealer. Over the next 5 months she had no less that 3 EGR’s replaced, eventually rejecting the car, which was replaced with a new petrol Tiguan on the same finance deal as her 3 year old one. It would seem that door locks on 3 year old cars are becoming another Achilles heel. I’m guessing the locks are common across VAG, so there must be similar issues, which may account for the lack of replacements.
  25. Hi If you go here and scroll down you will see the chat option. The people here will be able to check where in the process your car is. You can also save the conversation - for future reference - which can be very handy at times! Skoda UK contact page
