New MK1 vRS owner - "General Custard"
Thanks, Skinny. I think my rough plan of action with this is to; Do the immediate things. Full service and cambelt/water pump so I can run it with some assurance. Deal with body work issues. Repair sills and rusted wings. Deal with any issues that occur after I run it for a few months and ensure it doesn't suffer from any common MK1 faults. Clean, restore/replace most of the car's underneath to ensure the car lives long and prospers. After that, who knows! All the while, I intend to keep it as original as possible, but accept that some non-OEM replacement parts might solve common issues MK1 owners have faced. I've only had the car a few days, but I absolutely love the way it drives. I really hope I can restore it back to its former glory.

From one banana vRS owner to another, I salute you! This was a terrific read and inspiring. Thanks for sharing all your work.

rear brake squeal fix
Well, that's a solution that's been suggested to me by a much more knowledgeable fella than I. Makes a lot of sense, too, as the spring will be a proper faff to change. I'll give it a go sometime soon though

rear brake squeal fix
Oh man, that's my worst nightmare! Such expense to get back to the same position. We might have to be the first group who revert back to drum systems ππ€£

FFS
Awww man, that really sucks. I feel for you. They've given it a right whack' haven't they? Very sad if it is a neighbour and they've not owned up. Future tensions are the last thing you need on top of this nightmare.

Looking for a MK1 vRS!
I did something similar at the weekend! #teambanana

rear brake squeal fix
So, there are at least 3 suggested solutions to the problem in this thread! Different and updated pads Improved caliper springs Wheel bearing I've experienced this delightful (not) sound today and would welcome any further suggestions or definitive answers as to what is causing the issue. Definitely embarrassing!

New MK1 vRS owner - "General Custard"
Hey Dean. Thanks for the welcome! I must admit, I'd read quite a bit of your L&K stuff before delving into the market! It's always good to learn from those more experienced. Once I've compiled a list of issues to address, I think I'll start my own project thread too. I hope the car isn't a complete lemon (despite its colour), but gives me enough to work on with my dad to make it fun. The transmission felt super smooth for a 124k motor and the engine seems to be operating well. Let's hope it stays that way!

New MK1 vRS owner - "General Custard"
Hey all! I always wanted one of these and so I'm happy to have picked up a yellow MK1 vRS today! It is certainly helping to brighten up a miserable day, weather wise. It seems generally sound, but I look forward to restoring some aspects. It's all original and unmodified, from what I can tell, and I intend to keep it that way. If there are any sage words of advice about owning a MK1, I'd welcome them. If there's a former owner or if anyone who knows this car's history, that'd be great too . I'm the 6th owner and 3rd in the last 12 months, I believe, so I'm hoping it's not littered with hidden issues!

Cleaning & Detailing: what did you do to your motor today?
Glad to see some new contributors to the thread, and some lovely looking motors! It's been a few weeks for me as I've been stupidly busy with work, but I've done a few things to the motor this past weekend. New 18" OEM Vega alloys with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s all round. I got a bit of a bargain on the wheels, so I'm super happy there. 4 x new tyres has made an incredible difference to all aspects of the car's performance too, which is wonderful. Anyway, this is a detailing thread! I've applied 2 layers of Gyeon G2 Rim ceramic coating to the alloys, so fingers crossed it holds up as well as the reviews suggest. It was super easy to work with; almost too easy, which makes me wonder if I was doing it wrong! haha. Once the wheels were installed, I took advantage of each corner being lifted by applying an even coat of Autoglym performance dressing gel to the tyres. The day before, I'd given the car a good clean after quite a bit of driving over the previous fortnight (bugs galore!). Process (& products); Alloy clean (Autoglym Magma - first time using it and it was quite impressive) Jet wash to loosen dirt up on the body and blast off the magma from the wheels Snow foam (AD purple velvet) 2 bucket method wash (Sonax gloss, using hog hair brushes to get into the crevices). I did this in steps, as it was so hot - contact wash, pressure wash and dry a section before going on to avoid water stains). Dry (woolly mammoth towel & a cheaper Kent towel to assist) Here it is, clean and with new shoes;

My Android head unit upgrade.
Almost twice the price for the top spec one. Is it worth it in your opinion?

Pro version is just a licence that allows you to use the device on multiple cars and make unlimited changes via long coding. You can buy a device and then add a pro licence after. I did this. I picked up a 1st gen OBD11 device from Amazon, delivered next day for Β£42. When it arrived I started an account and added a pro licence. The device and app are quite simple to use.

Iβve only gone and done it!
Welcome ba (to use the parlance of your location). Congrats on the new motor! I miss many about living in Suffolk, but driving there isn't one of them! I've had my fill of flooded, single-lane country roads

Octavia MK3 vrs springs on non vrs models??
I've stumbled across this thread on Google, as I have the same question! I also wonder if Golf GTD/GTI rear suspension parts would work too? Did you get an answer? Does anyone out there on Briskoda know? Cheers

Cleaning & Detailing: what did you do to your motor today?
Yikes! Hell of a shift there! Was there much swirling to work out? Car looks great. How easy were the sealants to apply? Did you do them with the DA?

EZ Car Care Products - any good?
Just a heads-up: Starting at 12pm today, EZ are having a 75% off sale, which I think is across the whole range.

Cleaning & Detailing: what did you do to your motor today?
Thanks man. I'm looking forward to tackling the rest of it...hopefully next week, but I've been super busy with work since starting it. Race blue definitely benefits from the depth a good polish gives it...the shine generated on sunny days has been lovely to look out on! That Sonax gloss continues to impress me. It was Β£6 delivered, too, from Amazon.

Do all bi-xenon's dance?
Unfortunately the MySkoda app says nothing about my car, other than it's a 6-speed manual with a 2.0L TDI engine!
