Octavia vRS Limited Edition WRC
Number 93 belongs to...me! She's tatty and in need of TLC, but has had one owner from new until today. I'm so happy! I intend to complete a full restoration, decals included.

Handbrake button rattle. VERY ANNOYING!!
Mega thread revival. This is why I love Briskoda. I googled 'mk1 octavia handbrake rattle' and this was the first return. Amazing. It's rare to Google a problem about the MK1, no matter how small, without a solution being presented from this forum!

General Custard: mk1 vRS Octavia Restoration
General Custard is going strong. I've been pottering about in the car for a month or so since the belt was changed, and there haven't been any further issues. I've been getting through various jobs I noted since buying the car; Rust on wings Bent and rusty sills Cam belt and water pump change Service (sparks, fuel filter, oil filter, oil) Front tyres OSR leak (roof rail) NSR leak (light seal) Replace oil pick up pipe OSF leak Cat heat shield - reattach Slow puncture NSR Rear brake mooring/squealing Rusted wishbones Explore potential gearbox oil leak Remove service light indicator Replace ARB & front arm bushes Replace boot braces Rear exhaust pipe knocking (central mount before silencer) Interior light (driver's side) won’t stay on Chipped grill 00792 - A/C pressure switch 00532 - Supply voltage Signal too low (airbag) 00462 - Rear seat memory control module No communication (dashboard) 00463 - Digital Sound System Control Module No communication 01336 - Combination Comfort databus In single wire mode 01317 - Instrument cluster control module No communication (radio) Starter motor piston shriek Boot dent Peeling window tint Replace tailgate struts Driver window clunk/rattle Wheel nut caps Windscreen chips Replace knackered aerial Delaminated door handles Repaint petrol cap Clean interior Door card material sagging Replace headunit/speakers Unfortunately the rear slow puncture was a nail that was too close to the sidewall. Seeing as the fronts were almost new, I decided to replace both rears and have the car sat on a set of brand new tyres all round. Better safe than sorry. The rust issues aren't major, but I want to attend to those soon before they become a bigger issue. That's my next priority really. I've also started looking into retrofitting a MFSW and cruise control. I'll keep you posted!

Octavia mk1 Multifunction Steering wheel conversion
And 3 years on....I'm asking the same. I presume some coding is required. Does anyone know if a MFSW from any of the mk4 VW platform cars would be compatible with a mk1 2002 vRS?
-
Sad sad day!
Is it definitely getting stripped? Does it have significant issues?
-
Shebs mk1 VRS
Oh no! Sad times. Thanks for this project thread - I've found it a really useful resource.

Rattle created from loose cat converter heat guard
I decided to use a hose clamp to reattach the shield, but it turns out the knocking was coming from further down the exhaust system, where the mount is as it bends before entering the back box.

Installing vRS Suspension on an Elegance Model
Yeah, that's a fair comment. Whilst they are out, I may as well... Cheers. Yeah, it's a torsion beam rear suspension, but I wasn't aware that the multilink dampers/springs wouldn't be compatible. Irrespective, I think you are right about the diameter being an issue. Bugger; The vRS dampers I have are 5Q0 413 031 FP (54.6mm) The suspension code on my build sticker suggests G01, if I am reading it right, which is 49.6mm. Double bugger, with knobs on. Thanks for the droplink and top mount confirmation, much appreciated.

Installing vRS Suspension on an Elegance Model
Hey all I am about to attempt to change over my mk3 Elegance (2.0L TDI 150bhp manual) suspension set up and install one from a vRS. The existing set up is tired and one of the front dampers is leaking. Apologies for the rather newbie question; I have vRS springs, dampers and rubber stops, but is there anything else I need to switch over? I'm presuming the top mount from my existing car will be compatible, but will I need to change the drop link/coupling rod too? Thanks in advance

Anyone on polybushes?
Cheers Bullet. I appreciate the detailed reply. I had a look at the Super Pro ones, and you can get an entire kit for around £180. Not too bad at all. I'm expecting it'll make the ride a bit harsher, but I'm not sure just how much harsher!

Anyone on polybushes?
Hey all. Have we got anyone who has converted to a full polybush set up? I've got a few perished looking bits of rubber and wondering what the best option is, going forward. Cheers in advance

Resetting service indicator
I managed to do this after multiple attempts. I think the connection on my left hand button must be loose, so it only works intermittently.

Cleaning & Detailing: what did you do to your motor today?
Black cars are a bugger to keep clean, but when they are....the reflection and shine is difficult to beat! Lovely job.

Rattle created from loose cat converter heat guard
Hey all My mk1 vRS has developed a rattle from a loose cat guard. It sounds like the rattle a fridge compressor makes when you move it about. The 'rear' fixing seem to have rusted off entirely; I'm thinking of using these stainless steel hose clips to reattach it. Do you think this will solve the issue? Thanks in advance.

Resetting service indicator
Yeah, that's the video I watched. No joy. It seems to follow the steps but one click of the left button doesn't seem to achieve anything.
-
Resetting service indicator
Yeah. I looked at a couple of short vids, but no luck. I'm wondering if my left hand button is faulty.

Resetting service indicator
Another mega thread revival from me! These archives are an incredible resource! I have followed the above process, but no joy. Might my clocks be faulty?
