  1. Got xenon's on our Scout, but halogens on my A4, which I drive the most. Whilst I really like the look of the xenon's, I wouldn't say not having them would be a reason for not buying a car (enough double negatives in there?!). The thing I miss the most is the lack of AFS on the Audi, as it's funny how quickly you get used to having it on country lanes and other unlit roads. I would say if the offer is a good one, then forego the xenon's and be happy that you've got yourself a great deal on a lovely car.
  2. Had a PD Scout for 3.5 years and 50k miles with regular short journeys and never had a problem with the DPF.
  3. Also the spec on a standard Scout is significantly better than a standard 4x4 Octy. If it were me I'd go for the Scout, but then I'm a bit biased
  4. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to put children in their car seats on the back seat, rather than the boot...
  5. I thought the maximum service prices on the website only applied to cars over 3 years old?
  6. I have to say I was really not looking forward to having the electronic handbrake on my A4, but when its combined with the auto-hold function then its brilliant. In traffic it is so much more relaxing than having a manual handbrake as it just automatically engages every time you stop and then disengages when you pull off. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you've had one you miss this functionality on cars without it! However agree with the comments about the Passat. I test drove one before I got the A4 and the interior didn't feel much more special than my Octavia, and things like the analogue clock just looked tacky. I actually found the seats more uncomfortable in the Passat as well.
  7. Sounds about right, if perhaps a little low. Our 1.8TSI hits about 2750rpm at 70mph in 6th, so a 1.6 would be higher than that in 5th I would have thought.
  8. They featured this in Auto Express a few weeks back as a proper hatchback version of the Octavia or Rapid (can't remember which one it was). From the pics in AE it looked really good, if a little old Focus like, so might be promising for those people who don't like the hatchback with boot lip look.
  9. So what we have established is, if you are ever going to go into battle in Hungary, you're going to be quicker, and probably more comfortable, doing it in an Octavia Scout, than a tank. Should be considerably cheaper too. So the next project should be to add some kind of gun turret to a Scout
  10. What about getting a Yeti? There seem to be more of these around, especially 4x4 versions with either the petrol or diesel engine, and you have the benefit of them being no older than 3 years.
  11. One assumes this does the same as the option I have on my A4 to change the sensitivity in the onboard computer? If so then as blackspaven said, it doesn't really make that much difference between what is high, medium and low on my car.
  12. Reckon you could probably find one for cheaper than that with a slightly higher mileage, especially pre-FL, but I would definitely go for another one if I had the choice. Then again, I'm a bit biased as we're on our second Scout already
  13. The 1.4TSI engine is great and more than up to the task with this car. I had this as a hatchback but can't see why this would be much different in an estate. However if you often carry a car full of people or luggage then it does start to feel a little sluggish, but is still fine, and considering the mpg and tax level, it makes a great buy.
  14. We've got a 1.8TSI Scout with maxi dot and xenon's (sorry!). It's a lovely car and goes really well. It's our second car so only does a small mileage as well and the extra cost for the diesels was difficult to justify, especially as we won't have the cam belt to worry about in 3 years time. If you can find one then I would go for it. If you buy the one you're looking at from a main dealer then they'll give you a years warranty with it so that would allay any fears about expensive repairs for a while. Whilst the maxi dot is very nice, the FL cars non-maxi dot display is much nicer than the pre-FL so I wouldn't let that omission put you off too much.
  15. It's only down to the Octavia 3 coming out. Superb isn't due to be replaced for a while, so they still offer the full engine choice. Chances are in 15 months time you'll be able to get an Octy 3 with the 1.8 TSI or whatever equivalent turbo petrol they release.
  16. In the Scout its a great engine, though even after 7 months of ownership I still can't manage a smooth gear shift from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard! On the fuel economy I managed 36mpg with a full car and roofbox at motorway speeds, which is pretty good considering the same set up on our old PD diesel Scout only managed about 43mpg. As long as they don't replace it with the twin turbo 1.4 TSI from the Golf, as I've heard of various issues with a shortened lifespan of that little thing.
  17. They will probably be back, it's just they don't want a bunch of Octy II's on back order when the III arrives. Hence why the models with the longer lead times are removed first. The Scout, for example, has been off the list for months.
  18. I've been known to not quite fix the bonnet prop in properly before which caused an almighty rattle! However that would be the front not the back... Left a rear window/door open?
  19. Thanks guys. I dunno what they put it in from the garage as the only screen wash we've ever used is Halfords ready mix. I guess we've just not really used the screenwash that much as it's been raining so much, so nature's done the job!
  20. Got a bizarre problem. Whenever I wash the rear windscreen a kind of gloopy jelly type substance comes out of the jet rather than screenwash. The front and headlight washers seem to be ok, but not the back. Anyone got any ideas? Didn't know whether to just run thought a load of water to see if that would clear it?
  21. If it has one, it'll be in the jumbo box (ie under the centre armrest). If you haven't got a jumbo box (which I don't think was standard on an SE model) then I don't think you'll have the AUX in.
  22. We have the predecessor to the Pebble - the Cabriofix - and it fits without any problems and is so easy to fit and move between cars. I would highly recommend them. We bought a Sunshine Kids seat protector which not only protects the seat (duh!) but also holds the base in place better so that you don't get as much sideways movement. Seeing how much wear the seat protector has had over the last 2.5 years was enough to make me purchase another one when our second child came along in March.
  23. SD card reader is standard on Bolero and Columbus head units. If you want this feature on a pre-FL car then I guess you'd need to purchase a Bolero stereo.
  24. Auto controls fan speed only. You control the temperature. On the FL car you get a choice of big or little fan, so you can choose how aggressive you want the car to cool or warm itself. How nice huh?
