  1. I would say its more that you have to maybe change down a gear to overtake or to drive up steep hills to maintain the speed. The nice thing is that 4th and 5th gears have so much pull for a relatively small engine that it actually doesn't make much difference. I wouldn't say having the car heavily loaded makes it any worse to drive, just its not quite as potent as it usually is with just me in the car. I would say if you are regularly travelling around with a full car load then perhaps look at a larger engine. If most of the time you are commuting to work on your own, or just using it as a normal family car without all the luggage then the 1.4TSI is fine.
  2. I have a 1.4TSI hatch and it has plenty of power for everyday driving. I have taken it away on hols with my wife, young son, dog and all the junk that goes with that and its been fine. It does struggle a little if it is really heavily loaded, but not that it causes any issues. I have the manual but regularly get 38-40mpg on my short daily commute (mixture of single and dual carriageway roads), and have had upto 48mpg on a long motorway run. As for the boot space, we have a Scout as well, and we easily fit everything in that we need, and that's with half the boot taken up by a dog!
  3. Ah yes - that would explain it!
  4. Not seen any in ages, then two within 100 yards of each other northbound on the A38 heading towards Derby. One cappucino (I think), one darker brown. Have Yeti's starting huddling together in groups?
  5. I've found the seats on my FL Elegance significantly more comfortable than on our pre-FL Scout. I can't drive for more than about 2 hours without getting chronic back pain in the Scout but in the new car I have no problems at all - it is one of the most comfortable cars I've driven. Now whether or not this is a pre-FL vs FL thing or due to the Scout having different seats(??) than the Elegance I don't know, but I would certainly be interested in sitting in a FL Scout to see if they are any better.
  6. Why replace a Scout with an overpriced Volvo that basically does the same thing for about 10 grand more?
  7. If you can't stretch to a TSI then you may find a 2.0 FSI which is cheaper. They won't be as good on economy, but they have a similar amount of umph and are certainly cheaper.
  8. My dealer activated mine without any problems. They did however state the cornering fogs couldn't be activated which is a lie. Perhaps try a different dealer?
  9. Gotta say the Skoda accessory rubber boot mat is superb as its nice and grippy as well so stops anything moving around. Got one in both of our Octy's and it also has the holes for the lashings already in place.
  10. Pretty sure the L&K comes with 17" wheels as standard, whereas Elegance will be 16". That would make a bit of difference to the ride quality.
  11. Very nice - looks rather Superb-ish I reckon, especially those squashed headlights. Much more aggressive all round.
  12. Manual's take such a long time... its quicker on here :p Low as in about 3 or 4 notches above the minimum.
  13. Got a 1.4TSI on variable servicing and I've noticed the oil getting a little low. I'm about 5000 miles away from the next service so would rather not risk waiting until then so just wondered what oil I need to buy to ensure I have the correct stuff for my variable servicing schedule. Thanks in advance.
  14. Can't help thinking the whiter lights, including the LED's, don't show up as well compared with the standard bulbs. Isn't the whole point of them that you can see them during the day? Maybe its just the sun on all these photo's, but I prefer the look of the standard bulb and colour from a visibility point of view.
  15. You can still haggle to get additional discount off as well as the VAT free offer, though chances are your dealer will spin you the same line as they did me and state this is already costing them a lot so won't help. You can get things thrown in still. Also remember you should get the 20% discount off all extras as well.
  16. Got one as a courtesy car at the moment and have to say compared with my 1.4TSI it feels pretty sluggish and I was concerned to see it was hitting over 3500 rpm at motorway speeds, which can't be good for fuel consumption. Saying that, with the 5 speed gear box, once you get up to speed it pulls along quite nicely, though is quite noisy. A cheap way to get a new Octy I guess.
  17. I have an elegance and went to my local dealer in Derby, who aren't exactly renowned for great service on here, and they too enabled DRL's in about 20 mins without any charge. Perhaps you could ask your local dealer to call one of the other dealers who have done this so they can find out how its done?
  18. Old characterisation looks to be in line with the VW's who do 122 1.4 TSI and 160 1.4 TSI.
  19. You can have 6 CD's in the Bolero, plus an SD card slot that can take loads of albums. I would say get rid of the stacker in the boot and free up a useful cubby hole!
  20. Those first two settings can be done in the maxidot. I would have thought DRL's would be enabled by default now, as aren't they law from this month for new cars?
  21. 1.4 TSI's are just silver, 1.8 TSI's have a red "i". No idea about 1.2's.
  22. I've had this problem before, but since I've started using the "auto" feature with a/c on I haven't had the problem as much. I've left the temp on 22 or 23 and left it in the low fan setting of auto and then just turn on the max windscreen demister for when I first get in the car to give it a bit of a hand, then straight back to auto when the windscreen has cleared.
  23. The option to auto lock the doors is under "anti-hijack" or something like that I think. On the newer maxidots it is simply under a "doors" menu I think. It should be in the maxidot though, unless they changed maxidot between 05 and 08. There will be fewer menu options than on some of the FAQ's because it will only display the options your car has. So with an Ambiente with a standard spec otherwise, you won't get the same options you would get if you had, say, an L&K on standard spec.
