  1. I recently bought a Karoq. I checked the tyre pressures after a few days and found all were at 2 bar when they should have been at 2.5 bar. I sorted this out myself. I don't think the dealer deliberately deflated the tyres - the car was their demonstrator and had obviously not been looked after to my standards nor had they done their so called 100 point pre delivery checks. I think this is typical of main dealers, not just Skoda ones. They simply can't be trusted.
  2. I keep getting a message on the radio screen saying 'Data transfer is currently set to 'Share my position'. You can find what this setting entails and how to change it in the control centre'. No matter what I change it to, the relevant warning message keeps appearing on the screen. Is it possible to disable it and if so, how?. Many thanks.
  3. Thank you to everyone who replied to my posting yesterday on removing the aero wheel trims on my new Karoq and replacing them with wheel nut covers and wheel centre caps. I ought to have asked this new question yesterday but didn't - apologies for that. Anyway, the dealer has agreed to me removing my spare wheel from the Octavia I am trading in next week and putting it into my new Karoq. The Octavia full size spare wheel is fitted with 205/55/R16 tyres. The Karoq's wheels are fitted with 215/55/R17 tyres. Both are 5 studs. Will the Octavia spare wheel fit onto the Karoq and will the wheel physically fit into the Karoq's spare wheel well? I know I can buy a skinny spare for the Karoq but would like to avoid the expense if I can. Apologies once again for not raising this yesterday. Thanks.
  4. Thank you to all who replied.
  5. I have traded in my Octavia for a December 2022 Karoq SE Drive today and I have a couple of questions please. The aero wheel trims on the Karoq don't look that good to me and I am thinking of replacing them with those plastic covers that fit over the wheel nuts and the Skoda plastic centre caps for the wheels. I've seen on the Fabia forum that some owners have done this on their cars. Does anyone know the part numbers for the wheel nut covers and the centre caps please and where is the best place to get them ? a Skoda dealer. I will transfer my dash cam from the Octavia to the Karoq. It has a backup battery which is presently hard wired to the fusebox (I think to the heated rear screen or maybe rear wiper feed but not sure). It charges only when the ignition is on. Which is the best fuse to piggy back off in the Karoq please? Also where is the fusebox and how do I get at it? Many thanks.
  6. I managed to remove the nozzle by following the video above. Getting the nozzle off was difficult so I threaded some binding tape underneath it and pulled it off. But it wasn't easy and putting the nozzle back on wasn't easy either as it is a very tight fit. Anyway job sorted and thanks for the useful advice.
  7. Thank you both for this advice, much appreciated. I'll have a go at taking the nozzle off and clearing it in the next few days.
  8. The rear washer on my Octavia isn't working properly (the wiper is fine). I can hear the pump running but merely a dribble of fluid comes out of the jet. When I have had this problem before, I pushed a pin into the holes in the nozzle which seemed to clear the problem but not this time. I think I need to remove the nozzle itself to have a good look. It seems to simply screw off but I don't want to chance doing this without some advice from someone who has had experience of this. Is it simply a case of unscrewing the nozzle or will I need to remove the motor cover in the hatchback to get at it? All advice appreciated. Thank you.
  9. I asked Skoda UK this same question regarding my son's 2017 Octavia and my 2018 model (both with the 1.0 TSI engine). Their reply is below. I believe the same arrangements also apply to the 1.5TSI engine. Two local Skoda dealers also told me the same. Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the recommended interval for changing the timing belt on your vehicle. I can confirm that the ŠKODA recommendation for the timing belt servicing on both vehicles is below: Inspection every 15 years or 180000 miles which ever comes first. I hope this information proves useful. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me on the details below.
  10. I recently read on the Octavia mk4 forum that Skoda's advice on changing the timing belt on 1.5TSI engines had changed from 5 years or 50,000 miles to 144,000 miles with no elapsed time stated. I therefore contacted Skoda support and asked whether they had changed their advice for the 1.0TSI engine. I have this engine in my 2018 Octavia and so does my son who has a 2017 Octavia. They responded as follows: 'Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the recommended interval for changing the timing belt on your vehicle. I can confirm that the ŠKODA recommendation for the timing belt servicing on both vehicles is below: Inspection every 15 years or 180000 miles which ever comes first.' I thought this would be of intertest to mk3 owners with this engine and no doubt Fabia owners as well. Thanks.
  11. I had a similar problem with my Fabia a few years ago. Initially the dealer said not to worry. I took it in again and went out with the service manager who agreed there was a problem. They replaced the clutch pack under warranty which fixed the problem.
  12. I have a 1.0 litre September 2018 Octavia which (unfortunately) came with a petrol particulate filter. The correct spec of oil for my car is indeed VW508. I would imagine your car has the filter fitted and, if so, VW 508 spec is correct. It is expensive though. I bought 5 litres a while ago from my local VW dealer. It was on offer and cheaper than places like Euro Car Parts.
  13. Forget the fuel treatment. That's just upselling. I had my brake fluid changed at 3 years by my local independent garage. It did make a difference to the car's braking efficiency but I would stay well clear of a Skoda dealership for this.
  14. I think the recall happened late 2020 or early 2021. There is an internet site which lists all recalls but I don't know what it is called. Someone on here might know though. I was a bit surprised why Skoda decided to change the injectors as my car was working fine. It has been fine since as well.
  15. If you have the 1 litre engine, your car will be petrol and not diesel. I have a 68 plate Octavia with this engine and the fuel injectors were replaced by my local Skoda dealer due to a recall. Whatever the problem was, it may be the cause of your fault. I didn't have any injector problems with my car before or after the recall though.
  16. Fully agree. What a bad piece of design by VW. They should have made it easy to replace the filter element by simply removing a few screws from the top of the filter housing. Maybe VW have some sort of cruel thing for making people scrape their knuckles unnecessarily. Or maybe they thought that people would break those plastic clips on the top of the housing and would have to buy a new one, no doubt at a huge cost.
  17. The cruise control and speed limiter control were on the same stalk on my 2015 Fabia SEL. I agree it looks like a speed limiter control but why it is on a separate stalk I don't know.
  18. Thanks for the advice. I think I have just managed to sort the problem out. It seems I had a bad connection within the fob itself despite me checking this first but it doesn't explain why the fob worked initially then died. Anyway, the day to day key seems to be working now which is a relief.
  19. I got the usual message to change my key fob battery earlier today which I did. I followed the procedure in the manual including holding one of the key buttons for 5 seconds. After I changed the battery, I pressed one of the buttons on the fob which seemed to work (the rear lights flashed) but nothing would work after that. I tried re-syncing the key as described in the manual but no luck. The red light on the key fob doesn't come on at all. I tried yet another battery but still the same problem. I therefore took what I know is a good battery out of my spare key and put it in my day to day key but again the same problem - the key doesn't work and the red indicator light is dead. I therefore put the good battery back into my spare key which seems to work fine. I'm stumped at what to do next apart from buying more new batteries. Any words of wisdom out there on what to do? Many thanks.
  20. Playing silly buggers gets my vote. Why not wait until January to register the car so you have a 2023 registration?
  21. I have always fitted front and rear mudflaps to my Fabias. I bought them from a Skoda main dealer and fitted them myself. Skoda will charge a fortune for what is an easy DIY job.
  22. I used to have a Mk3 Fabia. Previous to that I had 3 MK2s. The rear seats in the MK2s did have a base that lifted and folded forwards so that the seat back could fold down fully. Sadly this was dropped when the MK3 hatchback was introduced but was kept in the MK3 estates. Quite why I don't know as I always found this a useful feature.
  23. Looks like it has 4 cylinders to me (I can see 4 connections to coil packs). But the engine doesn't look anything like the 1.2 TSI I had a few years ago.
  24. Skoda dealer is saying replace the belt at 5 years (will have about 25,000 miles on by then. So am I right in saying that the water pump doesn't need to be changed at the same time as it is on the other side of the 1.0TSI petrol engine than the cam belt?
  25. Can't find anything covering this. When I have the cam belt changed on a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engine, should I get the water pump changed at the same time? I'm not sure which side of the engine the water pump is fitted. Many thanks.
