I have done this today PIKEY MOD 3! the result, it definately spools up quicker, actually feels smoother than before. I removed the Maf then broke the Plastic mesh all the way round using a pair of snipe nosed pliars, this left the ring in on the back one ( which I just smoothed with a dremel flapwheel on low speed do it on fast and you will have no Maf housing left) then broke the front one in the same way and then pulled out the ring which left a lip so I smoothed it all out to give a super clean airflow and pulled out the metal mesh. Read the post by Lummox...DO NOT DO THIS MOD IF YOU ARE DIESEL! :eek:

Are they pressed in or moulded, they look like they could come out with a little gentle persuasion, where did you get the housing, is it available without the maf sensor as a spare?

This seems to be a popular mod on Audiworld and vwvortex, anyone done it on here, it is supposed to work well with a CAI as the flow is already laminar by the time it hits the MAF. whp quotes as high as 5BHP from this, the screens decrease the flow area by a whopping 40%....apparently,seem to remember someone having done it on a VRS? Is it possible to get the screens out in one piece so that they can be refitted if required?

Been working from home as the octy is in for some warranty work today and tomorrow so didn't even think about the possibility of fuel protests, using wifes corsa as she is on lates, went out to put some fuel in as she always runs it on the line and the local BP has hiked from 94.9 to 99.9 in the last couple of hours and there are about 60 cars waiting, the same in all within a 3 mile radius...it's gone totally nuts but had to fill up or I would have been walking and got to pick SWMBO up in an hour!

I have been in to see Nigel at blueflame when I was on business in Skem, what does this exhaust / cat sound like at cruising on the motorway, general driving? I want something that sounds better but not something that you can hear booming in the car, it is my day to day workhorse as well so I need one that is not in your face has anyone had problems with the 100CEL cat lighting the engine warning light or going into limp mode? Anyone in the Manchester area willing to meet up so I can see for myself?

I have just got back from Fleetwood, after a trip yesterday to Stafford and wakefield on wednesday, filled the car up on the way to fleetwood at Preston, set off and got to near fleetwood, could not believe my eyes, the trip computer was showing this............was showing 39.4MPG, and 37.5 overall on trip2, have been almost constantly at a fixed 70mph! so a VRS can be economical!

Rubber Strut top mount bushes, they need replacing with the struts at around 50K, does it knock more after a long run when it is hot? quick fix short term, jack the car up then back down, seems to cure it for a couple of weeks.

Filled up with 97 Ron Super at Sainsbury's in Huddersfield yesterday 88.9p /litre, it was the same as my local morrisons charges for 95 Ron, I live in stockport and the local morrisons is 1 p/ liter dearer than the morrisons in Denton which is about 3 miles away.....profiteering! to morrisons in stockport!

Calling all those who have fitted their own FMIC, any chance of some detailed pics and a how to, what not to and more specifically what does the sensor on top of the OEM Octy vrs intercooler do and what do you do with it when you remove the original intercooler and fit an FMIC?

I fitted 225/45/17 Goodyear F1 GSD3's to my Octy Vrs, I have done over 10k on them and they are nothing short of phenominal, tyre wear is comparable to the Conti's I took off with well over 25K on thenm and 3mm of tread. These tyres have transformed the handling of the car, they are good in all conditions ( apart from snow, alledgedly) wet grip is excellent, dry grip and tyre noise seems to be less than the conti's. My brother has a MX5 which is supercharged to around the 200bhp mark, he swore by the Yokohama A539's he had until he bought a new set of alloys that came fitted with F1's and he has the same opinion of them, has cured the tale end twitchiness and the car just sticks to the road like glue! It's all about personal choice, I would recommend these over any trye out there as they perform brilliantly, wear similar to the oem conti's.....oh yeah they look really good as well!! hope this helps, in fact I think I will submit a review on them for all to see!

Looking more for comments on the redituning, if anyone has got their car remapped with them, I know of all the other tuners who remap, AMD, APR, REVO, JABBA, Angel tuning, superchips, they are all expensive comapred to this for

I have been looking at the redituning remap on ebay, they are mobile and having e-mailed them they say that the remap on a std octy vrs will produce in the region of 210bhp and torque curves peaking at 4K with a spread of 3-5Kk regions developing around 240Lbs/ft. Has anyone on the site experience of the redi remap, a guy I contacted said he had had the remap on his 180bhp Bora, uses the same K03S , and was getting above 200bhp but his fuel consumption was down by 1/3 :eek: and that the turbo spooled up very low down which made it difficult to drive slowly. Can anyone advise the Plug Gap settings for an Octy VRS in standard trim, i.e not re-mapped doing them tomorrow.
