  1. TRP HY/RD are another option https://www.trpcycling.com/product/hyrd/
  2. I sell Squire & Oxford locks. Squire locks feel very well made but the keys can be a little fiddly to lock/unlock on the locks I've used & comments I've had from customers, I've sold all levels of Squire locks and the feedback from my customers is the same. I haven't sold any Sold Secure Oxford locks but have sold/used some of their lower end locks, they are very well made but feel more functional than top quality. The big question, which is the better/most secure lock? I can't comment. I've had training and support from both companies but have never seen any real world thefts/testing. I personally use a mixture of both (all Gold Sold Secure). My bike that was stolen (shown above), wasn't locked up with a Squire or Oxford lock. I wonder if I would still have it if I had used one or two of them?
  3. Have just seen this. I hope you had a successful day? I did the 3 Peaks last year and found the hardest bit was the long stretch between Pen-y-ghent & Whernside, not because it was physically challenging but because it takes so long to get there.
  4. I use 140mm Freeza on my road bike, coupled with the 805 caliper / 685 shifters, they are awesome, tyre grip is very much a big factor but easily controllable. I will probably try some Hope's on my cx bike at some point (I have another couple of set's of shimano brake pads to wear out 1st). My CX uses the Ice Tech rotors but I run 160mm on it. My 5t is used for everything winter/commuting/touring/cross country and has a lot to live up to following on from my old Cube. I'm a Cube fan at heart, it was uncle who recommended the Kinesis road bike and it is a fantastic bike to ride. When my Cube CX was stolen last year I felt I needed a break from Cube so bought the 5t. I'm still tinkering to get it how I want it, just waiting for some spokes to arrive so I can build my multi-purpose wheels which should transform how it rides. Being honest, I'm not sure I would buy another Kinesis. They are lovely bikes to ride but both have such soft paint they get scratched & paint chips really easily, for what the frame sets cost I expected better.
  5. What made you choose the Hope RX4-SH calipers over the Shimano Flat Mount Calipers? I run the RS805's on my road bike (Kinesis 4s disc) and the RS685's on my cx bike (Kinesis 5t disc). I have toyed with the idea of the Hope's on my CX, for no other reason that I want to try them & they look cool.
  6. Hi, You should be ok but depending on the type of mtb being carried 60kg might not go very far, as per the bike rack instructions, put the heaviest bike closest to the car and work out to the lightest bike. The weight you are adding isn't a force that is straight down on the towbar, so you will now doubt exceed the noseweight & it sounds like the boot will also have quite a bit of weight in there too (while this doesn't affect the noseweight, it will add to the weight on the rear suspension), I'f you find the back end of the car does sink lower than you are comfortable with, you could look at some Graystone spring assisters to help firm up the rear suspension, I used these on a mk2 octavia when towing a caravan and the behaviour on the road was much better.
  7. Battle Of Bradfield - 18th March 2018 A local sportive for me. 8. If this turns out anything like your Fabia, it will be an amazing car as your attention to detail is something to behold.
  9. 1, Escort s1 turbo £26.5k - My auntie used to have one of these when I was a kid. It was awesome and brings back so many happy memories. A nice sunny day out (classic investment) 2, Fiesta mk2 xr2 £14k - I could never afford the insurance on the xr2 so had the lowly 1.4 sport. Awesome little car. (classic investment) 3, Rav4 £ 16.8k - for SWMBO, the perfect family car for us & ideal for towing our caravan & horses 4, Peugeot 308 GTI - £30k - My daily, still enough room for the wife/kids/dog & not the obvious hot hatch choice 5, Toyota GT86 £12.5k - Something fun for me & my wife when the kids aren't around Nicely under budget
  10. Sadly the Lada. I remember having the odd weekend at my Grandparents house and being taken from York to Morley in it, driving up the A64 around 55mph (it didn't like going any faster) & the play in the steering was laughable . It felt like a tank and went like a tank
  11. My Grandad with his 1owner from new 8yr old Lada the day he p/x it for a Fiat Uno, in the 8yrs he owned it nothing broke & only ever had regular servicing & wear/tear items replacing. Sadly it never saw another road after he part exchanged on the day of the picture. My Grandad used to take me to Elvington Airfield & taught me to drive in his Uno, it always makes me smile when I see these pictures, such memorable times
  12. I'm very interested to hear how you get on with your Alltrack, it is likely my next car will be one, just missed out on buying one and SWMBO bought a replacement RAV4 for herself. Did you buy a manual or DSG?
  13. Do you really need any doof doof noises with the sound of that stunning engine tone?
  14. Its worth looking into your works cycle to work scheme, work out what your monthly savings will be & what the end settlement figure will be. Depending on the scheme it isn't always the best way to buy a bike. eg. You can sign up to become a British Cycling Fan Member for £22 & then get 10% off any cycling product at Halfords or Chain Reaction Cycles. Don't forget that Black Friday is on its way & there are also deals to be had over Christmas/New Year. I struck gold early this year when I bought my MTB, found it discounted at CRC by £300 in the January sale & also got my 10% British Cycling off & also got interest free payments through Paypal, it worked out cheaper than buying it through my trade account.
  15. I bought a '91 GT Avalanche a few years ago, I had it on a poster on my wall as a teenager, I always wanted one but it was way to far out of my paper round earnings. It needed a bit of TLC to get it running again but it was great for whizzing through Wharncliffe woods on my commute to work (32 miles per day ) Enjoyed every minute of owning it but sold it on for another project
  16. In my previous job I used to commute by bike all year round on my day shifts & used to commute by bike on my night shifts in the summer only. 32miles per day & just short of 2000ft climbing per day. In my current job I used to cycle once a week (all year) until my bike was stolen from work. my current commute was 62miles per day and around 3500ft of climbing. There are a few different cycle schemes available. If you are considering it, don't forget a Lock/Clothing/Lights etc.
  17. I'm heading over on sunday with my youngest son, he is looking at what mountain bike he would like & I'm looking at adventure touring bikes, we're also on the lookout for luggage ideas & different locations around the country for cycling holidays. Neither of us 'need' another bike you understand but whats the harm in some window shopping
  18. 2017 NEC Cycle Show Who is going? Is there anything specific you are going to look for? Post your favourite pictures here, I'm sure there will be something pictured that we all missed
  19. That is a very tidy looking Octavia, a very good find.

  21. As you say its 'some' of every road user that are the problem & give others a bad name. I've seen that mocked HGV video before, as a non HGV driver it is an eye opener and such video's education should be made mandatory for all road users, that is the only way everyone can know the what other road users can see. I'm a leisure & commuter cyclist & don't like to be branded along with cyclist's that do irresponsible things (as you can tell ), it's also not unheard of for me to speak out loud to other cyclists I see running red lights or trying to squeeze down the side of HGV's/Cars or filtering when you can clearly see lights turning green, apart from them not knowing the risks I don't understand the need to get in front at all costs (this also goes towards some motorists pushing/close passing cyclists). We all use the roads at some point for our enjoyment, I like others have taken the long route home from work to enjoy an extra long drive or cycle (as if a 30 mile cycle commute each way isn't enough ). I still maintain each road user must have a valid road users license, Cyclists should have to pass a CBT (this could be modified to use a pushbike as most of the road positioning, bike handling skills are the same) & the Theory test, all Motorists should also need to pass the CBT & be given the option of doing it on a motorbike or pushbike. At the Theory test stage, questions & videos could cover all modes of transport (including HGV). You could also add on extra's like basic HGV training (not to certify you to drive one on the road) but could give you a HGV Awareness on your licence which could bring your Insurance down? I have Loads of ideas, anyone think they are valid? Could start a Briskoda petition to try and get it looked at?
  22. I do hope he is sentenced accordingly, even 4 weeks behind bars will be more than the motorist got who killed my mate (who was hit due to the driver not paying attention when driving & still got to keep his license because he needed it for work, there should be no exception). Even if a cyclist did have a license taken away, what is to stop them getting another bike and riding it again? it's no different to being banned from driving yet still driving on the roads as some motorists do. Some people don't respect the law & rules so this sort of behavior will always occur amongst certain people, it is by no means acceptable but if proper licensing was brought into effect it could be easier to catch these people. Has anyone seen this on dashcam footage in Wales? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-40998946 , I think its a cracking idea
  23. @RainbowFire Thanks for the update. It's nice to see that this is progressing for the family of Mrs Briggs, hopefully they will soon be able to get closure on this terrible incident. As this case has attracted such a lot of attention, I'm sure that the cyclist will be made an example of and have the largest sentence given for not having a road legal bike.
