Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
Windowlene was fantastic, bicarb paste is a great suggestion. I use prestone screenwash it's brilliant I've heard great things about the VW screenwash. I'm using the prestone in a 9:1 mixture.

Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
You can discount Autoglym fast glass as it's brutal on a windscreen, everything is fine until you use the wipers the screen becomes practically opaque. Washing up liquid for me gave the same result, the car was dangerous to drive especially at night.

Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
At least it will be clean!! Can't say it's a problem I've ever come across before (cheap Chinese screens)

Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
If you're unsure of trying to clay the windscreen you could always use a clay mitt instead of the bar they're easier to manage. The white spirits method has never failed me yet. A scummy windscreen is enough to drive you stone crazy.

Bonnet vents
They actually look quite nice, water ingress while parked would be my biggest concern.

Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
That's a good idea. I didn't mean pouring the water directly from a kettle on to the glass, put a tiny drop of white spirit into a clean basin then put the very hot water in, using a brand new sponge or cloth wash the screen from top to bottom then dry it off using newspaper. Preferably change the wiper blades if they're only new give them a good clean with the sponge until the black stops coming off them.

Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
I didn't mean actually 100 degrees Celsius, as hot as you can bear with a rubber glove on, the water will cool quickly as you clean the screen.

Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
Boiling hot water, rubber gloves, a tiny drop of white spirit in the water and clean it off with newspaper, worked every time for me on any car I owned. Don't put any of those supposed miracle liquids on your windscreen they're terrible and make it worse. Bosch aerotwin wipers after its squeaky clean and you'll never look back.

AC and ventilation with a mind of its own
Have you checked the pollen filter? Maybe something got sucked into it or the filter got wet, certainly no harm in looking.

JB4 installed- first impressions
What map are you using mick? I’m thinking about mapping my 150 diesel I was considering getting the revo from George Dalton in Portlaoise.

If you have ACC it detects the car in front moving away and starts the engine, I found it very irritating if the car in front was a creeper, the engine would start only for the traffic to be still stationary.- LHD 2020 Skoda Octavia
That was a silly thing to do, an MPH speedo was always a requirement for importing a vehicle into the UK he should have done his homework first.- LHD 2020 Skoda Octavia
Where did you hear that? It must be a new regulation because up to the first of January this year Ireland was flooded with UK imports all sporting MPH speedos, seems to be a bit late now to worry about an MPH speedo. The cash cow for dealers that was UK auction imports is dead, I've no sympathy for them they were robbing people over here with UK cast off's.- PCP: To flip, or not to flip
- Octavia Mk IV irritations: poor LED lights and Auto hold traumas!
That's great to hear. I had a 2017 Octavia first of the FL cars with standard halogen lights and they were absolutely dreadful.- PCP: To flip, or not to flip
- How good is the Octavia 1.0 TSI?
First time it was an engine ECU update and the second time it was for the DSG.- Decisions, decisions....and so it starts
Thanks R. I'll contact George and see how it goes. Will probably need to wait until restrictions ease. As soon as I've made any progress I'll be back here.- How good is the Octavia 1.0 TSI?
I bought a new one in 2017 110 bhp dsg, it was lovely to drive I never found it lacking in power it was well able to overtake etc but it was very thirsty. Had it back with the dealer twice over this and when I'd get it back it would be fine for a few weeks and then the consumption would rise again. I think the 1.5 dsg would be a much nicer car.- Decisions, decisions....and so it starts
So a big plus all round so!! Being Irish I'll have to ask you how much it all cost although from reading your replies it's worth every penny. Oh, one last question, is your car the metallic red the expensive one or is it the non metallic? I assumed your car was diesel, certainly with 340 bhp under your foot you'd never run out of puff!!- Decisions, decisions....and so it starts
Many many thanks for your speedy reply R. I found George very nice to deal with. It would make it very handy for me to get it all done in the one place. How much of an improvement are the konis do they completely eliminate the horrible wallowing, it gets very tiresome on back roads I found I have to keep reducing my speed much to the annoyance of following drivers. Little cars like Micra's etc would leave me for dead on back roads which is embarrassing. What's the Revo map like? I have a dtuk pedal box on mine which improved drivability immensely but you can still get caught out overtaking as the car can run out of steam I feel it just needs that extra little bit of grunt. I'd hate to have one of the 115 BHP 2 litres they're putting in the new cars...- Decisions, decisions....and so it starts
Hi Roberto. I'm in Ireland too did you get George Dalton to do the re-map? Where did you buy the shocks from, how much were all 4? I would love to do the re-map and shocks on mine too. With this covid looking like it's going to drag on for eternity here I was thinking of going for the Bluefin map as I don't know when I'd get to travel to Laois. He fitted a CC to an Octavia I had a few years ago, very sound bloke in fairness, how much was the revo map? My car is manual so I obviously don't need a DSG flash.- Stop Start intermittently not working - Vehicle power consumption is high
Thanks guys. My car is fitted with an Exide EFB it isn't showing any signs of weakness at the moment. I have VCDS so I'm assuming I can code in an AGM if I need one in the future. Anyone have a link to how it's done? I see Halfords have an AGM battery suitable for the Superb for €188 with a 5 year warranty, wouldn't be too bad as modern day batteries go. - Three Things...
