  1. I very much doubt you could out brake a modern car travelling at high speed, if you needed to perform an emergency stop. Cadence braking is usually reserved for off road (Track/rally, etc) driving, to force a small skid, turn a bit, skid again, etc. Not for road driving. Many people think they can do better then the car, until they pile into the back of another vehicle!
  2. Hi, just mentioning I purchased a 4L bottle of oil today at my local Asda superstore, which is on offer at £18, which is quite a low price considering the high price of oil, in general. it is suitable for VW based vehicles, which have the 507.00 spec.
  3. Got an old car? Stick crap all over it and pretend it's new. Got a new car? Drive like a berk and it, will soon look like and crapper!
  4. Well said, Sep. That said, I too, disagree with the slowing down with car in neutral, foot off clutch. To say "you are still paying attention and can put the car into gear in seconds if necessary". Is absolute stupidity as the normal minimal safe stopping distance is TWO seconds and in my experience, most road users really leave half of that. That few seconds of getting the car back in to gear, could be the difference between colliding or not colliding with another vehicle. A nasty smash will outweigh ANY savings made on fuel, probably over a lifetime of coasting, etc to save a few ml of fuel, here and there. I bet whoever wrote that, moans their ar5e off about lorry drivers, who tailgate other drivers to save a bit of fuel!
  5. I would have thought that had it been serviced, it would have had the oil and filter changed as that is the very basic-ist of services... That said, in a year and a half, it certainly needs one and they tend to be very fussy on oil and filters so clean, fresh oil of the correct type is essential. Whilst I understand roottoot's comment, I would ALWAYS start at the basics. As long as the coolant is at the correct level fine but oil needs to be done on time, every time!
  6. Might sound stupid but did you look inside the end of the wheel removal spanner to see it is not just stuck in there?
  7. I just wanted to suggest that the gearbox from a Greenline might be a possibility! They had different ratios then a standard gearbox, to help increase gas miles, along with longer under engine/ car under trays to lessen wind resistance. They also had different tyres and the MK2 facelift (1.2, not 1.4) had a boot spoiler that again, helped reduce drag. I must admit I don't know if the facelift had a different ratio gearbox like the non-facelift and I have absolutely no idea if the gearbox will swap but I doubt they changed too much aside from internals!
  8. I think they made one for both the estate and hatchback variant. I would think they are available new (A bit pricey) but used would be just tracking one down...
  9. If I was fitting one, I'd fit the genuine Greenline 2 spoiler, if I could find one!
  10. How bizarre... You are asking the same question as someone else, for the same year car and from the same area! I am guessing you have two different names/accounts here! That said, if you can't find how to code out, can you add resistors to the lights that have been replaced with LED's?
  11. Could you not also fit resistors to the areas you have fitted the LED bulbs?
  12. If you keep resetting the Average miles per gallon, it will start to re-calculate from scratch. The longer left, the more real the figure should be. That said, re set it before a long-sh gentle drive along a clear duel carriageway and see if it goes up then.
  13. Otagolad1, I did this a while back on my Fabia and after getting quotes from workshops to put the light out, I bit the bullet and ordered an X-Tool scanner V401, which did this for me. I think they have now gone up to around £45 (I paid around £37, delivered), Probably due to me keep on going on about how useful they are!!! I don't know how much they will charge to ship to NZ, but once owned, they do lots of other helpful stuff and you can always sell it on if you no longer own a VW based vehicle. Fabulous, hand held tool which is dedicated to the VW range of cars, with more stuff then the price would suggest.
  14. You can get quite cheap replacement ones on say, Ebay and/or Aliexpress but be sure to get green ones, not VW red, as it will not match the car;s other switches. Genuine ones will cost four times as much and won't necessarily last four times as long. When I replaced mine, I swapped them out for the later ones, with the little chrome strip on them. They just pull out from either the front or the rear (Cant remember but be gentle and you will find out). you can then unclip the wiring and re-clip in a new switch. Be careful not to let the wiring loom fall back inside the hole or you could be fiddling like Nero!
  15. £40 X-tool scanner for VW's will put this light out, if the fault is fixed or it was accidentally set off. Cheaper then most places charge just to put it out for you and you have the tool for other issues.
  16. Heard people say this-never (ever) seen it happen. You pays your money, you takes your chance!
  17. Just a thought but if your dads rooster has the set-up you wanted, can you follow their wiring etc to see f its the same aa yours?
  18. Try removing the blanking cover from the passenger side and seeing if the key will open that side, instead. Might be a simple "Fix".
  19. Oh, Ok. On my 1.4 Greenline, I had one done years ago but they never mentioned re-coding. Perhaps they just "Did it".
  20. Might be worth buying an X-tool vag scanner as they can run through an abs check whilst telling you when to push the brake pedal, etc. They are around £40 and arrive in a few days once ordered. They also do many other tests and put out the annoying ABS light, and air bag one, if you have accidentally fired it off.
  21. I hope you gat an answer soon but to be honest, I didn't know injectors needed coding anyway!
  22. I think its just the same issue I had.... Wait until the clutch needs replacing and it should go away. You could ask a clutch specialist if they recognise the sound... They may drive around the block and give an opinion. Or invest in a new clutch anyway but I would at least wait until it starts slipping under load.
  23. Hi, I don't know if you sorted this issue yet but suggesting the bulb looks alright "Visually", (Same for the fuse) Is like saying something looks like it will taste nice, visually... You use your tongue for that and will often be way off mark! Get the items tested properly and/or replace with ones you know actually ARE working. You would be surprised how often a bulb/fuse looks good but won't work and they are so simple to test and replace.
  24. I think the idea, Mr Martin, is to establish whether or not the OP may need to purchase a 4L bottle of coolant and have enough or will they need an additional amount,m so to speak. It would be daft to buy too much but annoying to have too little. I purchased two, 5L bottles of Mannol G12 coolant when I changed a flange and coolant on my 2009 Greenline and still have a bottle left over. I am now planning on using that on either my Toyota Yaris or my Sandero Stepway, if it is compatible..
  25. I'm still as fat as ever! Lol.
