  1. Haha. Not really my cup of tea to be honest! Although I would quite like to improve the quality of the sound system. The speakers in my Volvo have so much more clarity and depth than the Skoda which is a little dissapointing considering the Volvo is seven years older.
  2. When I heard that the campbells soup factory was to be demolished I thought I simply need to get some pictures first. I spoke first to the secuirty guard to see if any access was possible and unfortunately as demolition begun a few days ago, for health and safety reasons this wasnt possible. In the end I settled for a few pictures of the car by night in the carpark outside with the bright red campbells tower in the background. Ironically too I found an old picture of my first Volvo 850 T-5 too in a similar stance. Its a page in history erased I think seeing such a huge landmark dissapear. Not related to photography I know but interesting as it may be below is a little history. Here are a few articles relating to the buildings history, briefly it was opened in the 1950's and was Campbells first and only major factory to exist in the UK. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/campbell_s_king_s_lynn_plant_to_close_1_694167 http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/demolition_starts_at_former_campbell_s_food_factory_in_king_s_lynn_1_1025633 Some photo's of the Dis-used buildings.
  3. Appreciate the in-depth write up. Thanks. I believe maybe yes I have fallen into the 4x4 security hole. I suppose really there are so many factors that really anyone could be overlooked. Im told there is an comprehensive review of winter tyres vs summer/all-weather in this months Evo magazine and infact some of the results are shocking. Definately something ill be picking up at my local newsagents.
  4. Oh god, I do appologise I seemed to have sparked a row. Sorry folks was just giving my two pence worth. I will however standby the view that driver skill and anticipation are the two most important factors when driving in adverse conditions.
  5. I appreciate what you are saying entirely and agree. I too am professional HGV driver and I would be rubbish at my job if I couldnt handle the truck in any weather. What I think I was trying to say is that a good tyre with plenty of tread will offer ample grip and performance for your average driver in the snow, as lets face it if the conditions are that servere they really unless completely neccessary driving should be avoided. I think many believe the winter tyres will offer far more than they actually do, a false sense of security perhaps. They are no substitute for a 4x4 thats for sure.
  6. Unless the law has changed recently (lets face it, happens frequently!) then I can say you cannot have larger profile tyres fitted to the front of the car than those fitted to the rear. For instance you cant fit 225/45/17's on the front and 215/45/17's on the rear. Ill have to double check when I get back in work with the guys in traffic, failing that a session on the Police Legal Database should reveal. For a quick repsonce however any VOSA testers should be able to clarify this.
  7. I cant say I have ever felt the need for winter tyres. I have driven a car with them and yes there was a difference but I felt it was one that would leave many drivers being "over-confident" in the tyres. From my experience any tyre with a good amount of tread will work well with the correct driving technique. I think winter conditions require a completely different driving style altogether, having been through a phase of driving class 1's you come to realise that if the car/truck is going to slip, get stuck or skid its more than likely going to catch you unaware and happen regardless of the tyre's fitted. It may be me but I think its false economy.
  8. Many thanks for all the help guys, really simple as always but I couldnt fathom it. Give me a complex equation ill have it done in minutes, car radio on the other hand...! grr666 you were spot on the money mate. I went to the shed got the cutters and some spade and bullet connectors and was ready to chop everything to pieces... then I found this! Needless to say sorted. Thanks again.
  9. Thanks alot, time to whip out the cable crimpers! Ill report back when the job is done.
  10. Many thanks for the swift responce. I dont suppose by an chance you know which colour of cable's relate to the 12v feeds? I cant get a multimeter in the plug and dont fancy shaving the wires quite yet.
  11. Hi Folks, Looking for a little inspiration. I recently replaced the Symphony headunit in my Octavia for a Sony Unit as the symphony was begining to fail. As far as I can tell I have done everything correctly, the sony was installed using adaptors which fit straight into the skoda connections. The only remaining disconnected connector is from the boot 6 disc changer. Anyhow the stereo starts and works perfectly when the car is on until you go to use the car again. Upon returning the clock will have reset and all the radio stations are no longer programmed etc. As I understand there needs to be a permanent 12v connection to the radio, what I dont understand however is why when the correct adaptors have been used this isnt "automatically" present so to speak. Any help greatfully appreciated.
  12. Why oh why is the radio forgetting its settings!

  14. I see another Skoda/Volvo R owner... what do you think of the V70R? I have an 850 T5-R, lovely car, however always aspired to the much greater (and newer) u70 series.

  16. Cant beat a decent real ale... I am quite partial to Wadworth 6x at the moment by cask in the pub or bottle in the shops. Never really been a lager drinker, although I do enjoy the lager beers such as sol and corona.
  17. Bought the first vRS (Fabia) when I was 19... a few cars later and I have just bought another this time Octavia vRS age 24. Currently sat on the drive is a 1995 Volvo 850 T5-R and a 2002 Octavia vRS... some say I am stark raving mad!
  18. 119!!! Wow Glad I live up north. Its 112.9 per litre at my local Shell in Lincoln and 118.9 for V-Power.
  19. Not at all it did take a few scrubs but all dried out nicely. I suppose it depends on the type of dirt on your seats, may remove general muck better than say grease for example.
  20. Well the compressor can be replaced by youself but unless you can guarantee it has been completely "un gassed" its a potentially dangerous task. I changed the compressor on my Volvo and it took all day as it involved removing aux drive belt alternator bumper etc etc yes it was far cheaper than a garage but it was a hell of a lot of hasstle. I would strongly reccommend a professional to do the job If you want it regassing for free though I used a little trick on the Volvo get a aux belt for a the car for a model without a/c and swap them before regassing then when they refill the a/c it will show no improvement, it will be free, you go home and put the right belt back on!
  21. Will do no problem. I have already noticed a massive difference. They dont grind anymore for starts. I used a bottle of: Just followed the instructions on the back of the bottle along with a bit of elbow grease! It was only 5 quid so I thought worth a go! They were filthy its a shame I didnt take a before shot but believe me it did the job.
  22. Well the car got its proper first hand wash for the year today. Lovely weather so took the opportunity. The pictures dont quite do the shine any justice but nevermind. I also cleaned up the engine bay and shampoo cleaned the seats which have come up gleaming! After that time to replace the "well used" rear discs. I think I got a little to excited with the copper ease though
  23. I must admit I do like white cars and the fabia is no exception it looks fantastic in white. Very nice indeed
  24. If its any help I looked in mine and there is no such hook, I see the problem though very awkward would be easier in some respects if you could detach the rear section and completely remove it.
