Yes I'm afraid it will have noise issues being a diesel! For info the TSI can be economical when driven properly (indicated 40 to 45mpg) and doesn't have the same particulate filter system as the TDI. Earlier 17/18 models don't have any (gasoline) particulate filters. I'm sure a diesel head will be along soon to give you a more appropriate answer 😀

If it's pothole hell, I would seriously reconsider 19" wheels and the skinny tyres they require on the Octy. They're a nightmare. I will one day downsize mine to 18" or even 17".

Mine needed a cut out underneath the bumper on the fake diffuser. It can't be seen from behind, so no need to worry.

Another £550 detachable Westfalia here. £1200 seems expensive!

Anything to back this up? My 245 feels very flat in eco mode even at full throttle. Also boost gauge reads lower in eco at FT. Appreciate this is anecdotal, having not had it on a rolling road! Back on topic: Like: the performance, looks, seats, towing ability, remote handles to drop the rear seats, infotainment and that several 2.4m loft boards fit inside! Also no issues / faults since getting it new. Dislike: the road noise and big wheels/uncomfortable tyres. It really is a fantastic car. It'll be 4 years old in Feb and I've no desire to change it.

They're on extreme alloys so all is good 😀 What are the drawbacks apart from potential scrubbing, speedo error, less performance? etc...

Thanks for posting the photos, I quite like the look! I suppose I meant the ride in comparison to the 35s if you ever had them... But you're right it is subjective. What's the tyre width? Any scrubbing? Apologies for all the questions.

Understood. But why is the boost gauge reading lower across the whole rev range in eco mode?

Mines a standard 245 and there is a noticeable power difference between the eco and sport modes, besides the throttle response changes. The on screen boost gauge confirms less boost in eco mode also. Not sure if this gauge is any good though! Isn't it the same with the TDI?

For info, eco and normal driving modes have the same 'lighter' steering weight. As already said sport mode has noticeably more weight.

I leased my 2018 245 estate for the first 2 years and then bought it from VW Finance because it is just a great family car for us. Carries bikes, a dog, kids, tows the caravan, tip runs, I've had several 2.4m loft boards inside etc. All while doing 155mph 😁 Also 40mpg+ is easily achievable. The above allows me to forgive the lack of sound insulation. There's no hiding how noisy it is on rough surfaces. I had a 1 series M Sport previously which was significantly more refined than the Octy. I'm still considering downsizing the 19" wheels in order to gain some reduction in road noise. Not the cars fault, but a 4x4 petrol option would have been nice.

Crazy isn't it. WBAC offered more for mine than I paid over 18 months ago when I requested a quote 2 weeks ago. Good result for you 👍 (apart from having to part with the 245)

I would take a torque wrench or go for a taller SUV or people carrier. Better still, abandon the road biking scene 😁👍

Yes I can hear the normal turbo whistle with the windows down. Quite loud for a standard car compared to other turbo petrols I've had. I'm impressed you have a Scout with the 2L TSI engine! NZ market only I guess...

Obviously they're both similarly sized VAG estates but the A4 and Octavia aren't really in the same class. The A4 will be noticeably more refined than the Octy. Your Mondeo will also be more refined than the Octy, so agreeing with what Matt said above, drive them both before committing. I love my vRS estate and definitely would not swap it for a standard S Line A4 Avant. It stands out, there aren't many on the road and it handles everything I (and the family) throw at it. So I can put up with the road noise...

I've used thule for years and would recommend them everytime. Recently replaced my old silver wing bars with the latest version in black. Looks so much better. And no messing around sliding the rubber strips in and out anymore! If you don't need the capacity go with the black Wingbar Edge. Of course being a hatch you'll have brackets clamping round the roof edge down to the door tops. But this cannot be helped!

I'm not disagreeing with your advice, but I didn't get additional components installed and didn't have any VCDS programming. Mine tows a 1420kg caravan without issue.
