Roof bar options

Featured Replies

I need some bars for my vrs Hatch in white with black pack. Options are

Thule through or flush in silver or black

Or wait 2 months for cheaper but equally capable arguably better looking Yakima through or flush in black (or silver).

What do folks think? Flush + Black or don't be daft, cheaper more practical silver and through. Max 2 bike carriers, no box, and I leave the bars on as bike is on and off all the time.

White with black pack = black roof bars IMHO.

I'm pretty much of that opinion too. Flush or push through? Only option atm is Thule, the most expensive option!

I've always used Thule bars - the ones that fitted my RS4 Avant also fit the Octavia 3 estate and I've also got them for my Aygo. Also went for the wing bar edge to minimise the aerodynamic drag.

Through or flush? Dunno, not a choice on the estate as it comes with roof rails.

I've used thule for years and would recommend them everytime. Recently replaced my old silver wing bars with the latest version in black. Looks so much better. And no messing around sliding the rubber strips in and out anymore!

If you don't need the capacity go with the black Wingbar Edge. Of course being a hatch you'll have brackets clamping round the roof edge down to the door tops. But this cannot be helped!

Ooh this! I didn't know that with the new bars, as that is real pita with the whispbars.

Anyhow, I just decided for the sake of £50 I'd get the black flush edge and be done. I'm hoping to keep this car for more than 3 years.

Just got to sell my old whispbars from my octy wagon.

Are these holes used by roof bars on the hatch?

I've wondered what they were for.

It would seem so, but whether third party bars use them or not I'm not sure. I presume the Skoda bars would do so.

No - they aren't for the use of the roof bars.  Those holes are actually used in the factory for one job - and that is carrying the empty bodyshell from one part of the workshop to another whilst the robots build the car up.  I know this as I've been over to Mlada Boleslav and seen it with my own eyes!

I did not know that. I watched the Octavia production video on YouTube, but I didn't see the holes being used. Thanks for the info. :)

And not found on Combi with roof rails...

Every possibility that their primary use is roof bars, but the factory can make use of them. They were not on the doors of my wagon either.

I've had the official Skoda bars on my hatch, rented from and fitted by the Main Dealer (along with the roofbox) and they didn't use those holes. I had assumed that's what they were for but the clamps on the Skoda roof bars were flat.

Took longer than I thought it might, didn't help that the foot kit instructions were missing!

Struggling to get the 3mm gap according to the instructions between the drip rail and the inner seat of the foot. It naturally wants to follow the contour of the roof line. I guess worst case is you get wet opening thd door

Ah! That they are not found on the combi is pretty telling.

I did watch the video of the production of the FL Octavia, and the holes didn't seem to be used to cart the bodyshell around, but as it's an edited video, so I can't say either way for sure.

But they do seem like a neat way to locate roof bars securely, given the old fashioned rail slots are no longer a thing. (Which is a shame, IMO.)
