Questions from a new owner
My two pence worth, others will be along for sure. 1 : I'm in a 2016 SEL, so have not seen the menu structure in a VRS, so I might be corrected for your model, but press the furthest right button (sort of Return Arrow )on the MFSW (Multi function steering wheel) and use the right scroll wheel to get to DRIVING DATA, and release or press the scroll wheel (click) this will then hold that menu on the MAXI DOT screen in front of you, then scroll around that menu (some can be added and removed from the Infotainment CAR Button Settings pages) and again click this will then hold the data on the screen. on MPG pages, you can press the right scroll button to scroll through the data values such a Long Term MPG, Since refuel, Since start. 2: The lovely VW group decide, yes it can be changed from Variable (2 yr ) to Fixed 10K. What's your annual expected mileage? 3: Yes and no and been debated on here an awful lot. Inspection service, extended scope, they drag the hell out some parts changed unless you ask them to do it and they try and charge you extra bit of minefield in the dealerships. 4: Cannot comment 5: Cannot comment. 6: Now go out to the car in the dark and play with menu's whilst the other half wonders where the hell you've gone for several hours:-)

DPF data before and after regen- Octy Mk3
Thank you for you input much appreciated. I'm happy with it doing its thing as it needs to and am familiar with how often it happens so i wasn't worried about what i saw. Its Always worth knowing what things are doing when they were working normally. Might log it one day to see what the temps get too. Thanks

DPF data before and after regen- Octy Mk3
I have been checking my Octy mk3 DPF data. I took the first reading before and active Regen finished then after one completed as left it on the drive smelling of burning rubber until the revs dropped back to normal. There are no issues with the car so just for interest. 62k on the clock. I get a an "active regen" about every 300miles or so with my typical driving which seems normal from reading the thread in the mk3 forum. Am I looking at the correct AdV Measuring blocks or are there any others in this group to look at? Presume Soot Mass Calculated reduced due to the active regen? Is oil ash mass ok at around 21.4g? last service was at 58k. Thanks

2nd hand Steering wheel rocker switch
I was looking into this but fortunately mine started working again. Quick search on you tube turned up a video of how to remove the air bag on the mk3. Turn steering wheel 90 degrees and use a mirror to see the hole and clips holding it onto steering wheel. Think you have to replace both sides as it's all one unit.

Brodit Clip advice.
Just watch Euro Ncap side pole crash test, A pillar explodes as curtain air bag is deployed. I wouldn't be clipping objects to it.. https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/skoda/octavia/39136

Air Con Service
Couldn't agree more that it's up selling. My 2016 is still as cold as it was last year when I bought it and there's nothing in the history to say it's ever been serviced. With climate control it's on all year round, so the oil and gas is moving round the system and keeping it lubricated.

Rear interior lights
Have you tried rotating the bulb round ? I replaced all mine with decent Philips LED's and had one round the wrong way and it didn't illuminate.

Question on screenwash usage
Can't get much harder water than where I live in Brighton (chalk boreholes). I can honestly say I've never had any issues with blocked jets on any cars with screenwash made up from concentrate to the rough ratios. I used only use Vag screenwash concentrate (cheap from TPS) but the halfords one is just as good and just as econmical.

Question on screenwash usage
No question is dumb and it's good you want to learn yourself. To add to this and to be clear, "parts" means the volume. So if your bag of screenwash is 500mls mix it with 500mls of water and that gives the 1:1 ratio. Agree tap water is fine for mixing screenwash. There are several reasons to mix it properly. The reservoir doesn't get gunked up, as they are a great breeding ground for bugs that make black slime that blocks the screen jets, it cleans the screen effectively, and it doesn't freeze as easily as it would with just water.

Delay in handbrake release
FYI my 2016 SEL Tdi has the hill hold function. Its quite reassuring as engages on the just the shallowest of slopes.

change of filters
And if you're doing less than 10k miles per annum do the oil and filter anually. Agree with Ecomatt on the fuel filter every 20k.

Vrs estate aftermarket roof bars?
If your looking for flexibility then go for "T-Track" roof bars. I can get a roof box (Kamei Delphin) and two bike carriers (Thule Pro-rides) on myself in minutes. No u clamps to do up just slides onto the bars. Check out The Roof Box Company as they are great to deal with for all budgets.

Air Filter change interval
The maths sounds excellant, send me the spreadsheet! Go for it cheap enough to do (the knack for the glove box will make you curse), let it breathe again and ignore the VW R&D departments recommendations. Perhaps Which should be asked to do a real world test on car air filters.

Auto Hold
When you say Auto Hold do you mean Hill Hold. My 2016 dsg has this function. You just hold your foot on the brake for more than two seconds it engages and you can lift off for a short while. Tap the accelerator and it releases the brake.

Boot button stopped working
It seems that it's a sad fact of car ownership that aftersales support is often a dissapointment as the car gets older. Its all about sales really hence the shiny show rooms that cost the earth. But don't be disheartened by it. All cars get niggles and bits that arent quite as the should as they age. My old SEAT didnt look great after 185000 miles but mechanically it let me down just once in all those miles. The passenger door wouldnt open from the inside, neither did the window work, but it was mine and i still liked to drive every day. Just find a good independent garage and let them take care of it and you.

MY19 Octavia 2.0 TDI 150ps dsg
Glad you're enjoying your new purchase. I was really chuffed when i got mine, its great. The 2.0 is quite a punchy engine when you want it to be (pull back on the lever to drop to S if you didnt know that?) or just sit back and lounge around it. Stick it in eco mode and it coasts when off the gas to conserve even more fuel.

Upgrades
I'm with Ad230 above on this. Buy a 2.0vrs. It would be far more economical to buy a more performance car in the first place rather than spend lots of money on that particular model which will be built for "mass market" customers.

MK3 Octavia VRS TSI 2013-2016, Reliable?
6. Later years for better sound system that has more punch I would suggest. I have March 2016 SEL diesel. Friend at work had an Elegance think that was 2013 -2015 with Columbus (Hdd version) head and spent £450 on sub install in the boot to get any bass out of it utter rubbish fronts and tweeters, I have the Amundsen and he came for a ride and was shocked how much better it was over his earlier car. Simple enough to change front speakers and tweeters if it's still not quite good enough. There is a mod for the tweeter that drops the mid frequencies coming through that can make them rattle (I've had that when real loud) Rears still ain't great but I don't sit there!
