  1. I think VAG would have had a few law suits if when towing it stayed in Eco and coasted with the engine "disengaged" from the gearbox. But I wonder if when the boffins were working on that, that they found out in a test by accident But that is also why when getting a tow bar fitted, it's important that the car is coded to know it's there for the above safety reasons. (Health and Safety Hat off now..)
  2. Satisfying when you over come a problem and it's all back together. Is that a good load of copper grease I see behind the disc. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting it off next time.
  3. From your "Ticked" boxes on the screen 1. Front assist is on 2. Front assist will warn in advance of potential collision 3. You'll see an icon of two cars close with an exclamation mark only above about 40mph when behind a car. It's sometimes not seen if the car has a high rear end like trucks and high wheel base Chelsea tractors.
  4. Indeed @Warrior193 Grill needs to be replaced, mine was missing but its only ~£7 from the dealer or use SKODA parts link below. https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-parts/Octavia-3/grill.html When it activates you get a big red symbol in the middle of the Dash on the Maxidot and an audible warning too, mine tends to not like someone close turning left sharply and others have commented on this too. Its not to be relied on you still keep your eyes on the cars in front of you , its designed to ASSIST braking in emergencies.
  5. Not had any issues with orders from them, had boot lights been in a year with no issues, and a few other styling items.
  6. You need to get it scanned with VCDS (or OBD Eleven or Carista) to see what fault has occurred. Check the Vcds forum and you'll find a link to a map with VCDS owners (like me). There might be someone local that might do a scan for you.
  7. When you say it's available enlighten us , can you see it in a menu or from the manual you got with the car? My SEL 2016 dosent have it. You need particular camera. If your camera in the windscreen is square shaped then it not going to be the right one. This is mine to show you what I mean.
  8. Sorry my mistake (thanks Wino) Caliper screws holding the calipers to the carrier. I've never used new ones before when changing discs. It'll just be required in the dealership as best practice and safety related component. If your that fussed probably on a few pounds at dealers but a drop of threadlock would certainly be fine to stop any possible loosening.
  9. The disc screws job is probably really only to stop the disc rotating or falling off the hub when you take the wheel off. Given that the wheel bolts go through the disc itself and this holds the disc against the hub I've not generally been bothered about reusing them you do get new ones included with new discs though. Bit of thread locker wouldn't hurt. Often the biggest problem I've encountered is removing those pesky little screws. An impact driver is a must or tap with a plastic hammer perhaps and some plus gas release an hour before removal. Hot cold wet damp salt....you know what I mean.
  10. Glad that helped you somewhat albeit it won't show a full list. I noticed that the other day when I tried it out too. Sometimes just following road signs or your own nose is easier than getting the Nav to take you there
  11. Might help..I have 2016 amundsen Mib 2. You should be able to hover over the lower part of the screen and a popup menu appears and the choose split view. This should show the next turn and I think pressing manoeuvre will show the full list. You can close with an X button. Or once route is calculated pinch the screen inwards or use the right dial to zoom out and see the route it's worked out. You can have a "setting" option to have it show three routes in different colours. Would say that Nav is not the easiest to get used to from Garmin, TomTom and Google maps. To get to even typing in a postcode isn't very intuitive at all. I quite often use the voice commands to get to places I know the town and road names as easier and sometime quite humorous!
  12. A fair comment on variable servicing on cars that are hauling lots of miles and not city runs. I missed the 30k per annum above so indeed variable would still see an oil change once per annum and filters would come as a when.
  13. But thats just a work around. you can now get the new "simply clever" version.
  14. Helps my six year old do the engine bay checks with me, he dosen't spill the washer fluid now or simply for those with geriatric fine motor skills.
  15. They can also be set in the infotainment menus to activate when the wipers are operating. The functional design specification tells me this. Or "Manual" to most of the population.
  16. I don't see any BMW taxis in Brighton but there are loads of Octavia's still running around. Oil change every 10k and all other filters at 20k, easy to remember. Check at inspection what service plan the car is on. It tells you in the service menus. Forget any longlife variable servicing sales bull. You might not push the dpf through to 200k but it probably won't cost BMW money...
  17. The dsg oil service is every 40k which includes a filter change. I have the non vrs 2.0 diesel and the dealer systems had missed this service (seems to happen a lot from my research) but got done at point of sale so worth getting it done for peace of mind. Gear selector switch in the DSG can fail, cheaper fix now rather than replacing the whole thing there is a thread on it. Have you got any details on mileage you are looking at?
  18. have to say its a very nice little mod and the gentle opening of the bonnet is strangely satisfying....
  19. You can source parts in the UK as i did from a thread on here https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-186684-gas-spring-fits-vw-audi-febi-bilstein-27709.aspx https://www.sgs-engineering.com/x2-ball-extension https://www.sgs-engineering.com/x4-ball-extension just a couple of washers required on each ball extension
  20. A good read thanks for posting your long term review. Why do feel you you need to change all four shocks now that you've changed the tyres and handling has improved "quite a lot" do you think that would improve the ride further? I don't doubt that shocks do gradually loose damping qualities over time but that mileage still seems quite low for the expense for now. Bad roads?
  21. I would state that driving a dsg you have to work with it and sort of learn how to drive it. It will change up rapidly for economy and you need to learn how to feather the throttle somewhat to keep it in the gear you want. This becomes quite apparent when slowing at a roundabout and then wanting to nip out quick. Don't stamp on the throttle else it will down change and a slight lag in gears will occur. It cant read you mind or see the road...Feather it to keep the revs in the range of that gear without it wanting to change up or down. It does become easier over time though and should not put you off getting a dsg.
  22. so are these actually duplicates of the same number for each contact or does every contact have say a landline number and mobile number. Have you set contacts in the phone with "default" numbers? I.e if you clicked on a contact on the phone the first number is always the one you set as default. This may bring the number you need to the top of the list shown each time. In my 2016 SEL with MIB 2 headunit, the voice control allows me to say 1or 2 to choose the number I want when a contact has multiple numbers. Is your Columbus so maybe it handles it differently?
  23. The 2.0l is excellant to drive, lots of low down torque and my dsg returns 500+ miles per tank so it's quite econmical. I wise choice. Now hit superskoda.com for some tweaks to make it even better..boot lights are a must and check the bonet strut mod for the added grin factor. Enjoy.
  24. Mirror "synchronous adjustment" can disabled or enabled in the Mirror settings in the Car Setup menu. This will stop both mirrors moving together when you move the right hand one. Then you can adjust each one separately by moving the switch to L or R. I expect the Seat Leon would have similar menus depending on the year model. This can be permenantly disabled using VCDS diagnostic software tool. I've not done it with my own VCDS but I expect it would remove the option from the Infotainment menus.
  25. good plan, Nothing wrong with giving it a nice fresh drink of oil every year, keeps it sweet especially with your extra horse power you have under that hood (compared to mine...weep:-)) . I'm an oil burner and do 12-14k per anum and I'm sticking with a max of 10k oil change and 20k do the lot, air filter fuel filter etc. My last VW diesel I exactly that and it had done 185K when it got chucked in and broke down once in 12 years due to clutch pedal master cylinder leak, not an engine fault in sight in all that time and still pulled like the day i bought it.
