  1. If you can get sills at all, use them, bit of modding needed at back-- got a pair stashed for the caddy pickup. Thought they were all gone now. Let us know if you`ve found a source.
  2. Worth a mention, `Gliptone` Todmorden, Yorks sell Skoda Yellow leather repair dye. Redid some of the bad bits, when the fun first came,, with some success, the steering wheel especially--did it and the cracks white first.
  3. Needs small spacer between lugs and carriers to centralise. Measured it up imagining that, the studs thru, face plate, would be the same thickness as the 260--its thicker. Gives wider track tho. Will see if the 205/50`s clear the rolled arches later.
  4. Tried to put this in 257mm vent thread but can`t seem to do it. The 260 disc looks a bit lost in 17`s so did a bit of messing. Mondeo 3 calipers bolt straight up, have a 57mm piston and sit nicely round Grand Scenic 300mm discs with just 1mm taken from the centre bore.
  5. Quick update, The a6 springs are on and the ride is good. Abit of messing and bending needed on the driver`s side yet as it rubs on the bottom arm. It is identical to the other and a mirror image would have been better, something that never occured to me even when fitting them. The shockers do not bottom out and the polyurethane springs have been removed. At full rebound the coils become slack and could possibly become displaced. So time, perhaps, to locate shorter shockers.
  6. Still got piles of avy stuff. The decider appeared when it became apparent (to me)that to get the diagnostic port to work the polo clocks would be needed in the circuitry. So put afh head on avy time.
  7. Made one up from the diagram---its to scale, so i measured the distances beteen the holes on the aee mount and those between the holes on the block and then got the diagram blown up `til the print out matched the sizes i`d measured. Did the 1.4 first, but it was not for me, so moved on to the 1.6 which is a bit more like it As tom said the mount is over engineered -- used 8mm and didn`t cut out the hole in the back plate, been ok for over a year. Good luck.rolo.
  8. rolo, 1999t, owned for 2 years, average nick, just fitted new front "half" wings, engine is the hybrid 16v, afh head/ 1600gti bottom end conversion, on favorit front springs and a6 rears.</p>
  9. Sitting the fun down slightly at present did favorit springs at the front and trying to uprate and lower the rear without the go kart ride of the caddy. Went thru the catologues and true enough a8 rears seem the ones. When they arrived they are only pigtailed at one end. The end of a saga is that the aftermarket manufacturers catalogue is wrong and the people selling them on ebay are oviously reproducing this in their spiel and probably buy when ordered. However a certain model of a6 has some that should fit but 2" lower, probably too much for the fun but will try for a fit and report back.
  10. Will just add for newcomers that the mtdi pickup (vnt,216 nozzles, expansion 4.5" downpipe,3" straight thru, seriously modded 11mm pump, crank girdle), is held in check via a multi paddle drive and 2 piece helix race cover sat in machined up diesel flywheel.
  11. Still on the first gearbox with the tuned tdi. Clutch took a while tho. Both the 16v and the mtdi pickups are fine gearbox wise although I`d like a higher dif in the diesel. They are obviously much stronger than the polo and, after using them, would say as good as the O2a vw except for the lack of options final drive wise. With 195/65/15`s 100mph is 4k revs so its not that bad. Just fitting a diesel one to the 1600 tc petrol to see how it likes that final drive. Oh and a tip from jimbo, I think, gearchange is better with ATF lubricating the cogs. Would like to contact these people who have broken boxes with a tdi to find out what gives and see whats lacking.
  12. Only the mk2 will fit your pickup without modifying the inner rib
  13. The swop to a petrol involves engine, intermediate plate, flywheel, clutch,(or engine/gearbox complete), petrol engine mount, loom, ecu, pump, immo resetting, front pipe, to end up with 75 bhp. To turbo the aef I used the manifold and turbo from a 1z tdi then modified it`s down pipe, used the 1z oil feed and welded a return pipe to the sump, the 1z inlet fouls the bonnet so you need to chop and weld it or cut a hole and make a bulge. Then fit a td pump. And a better clutch. Nothing simple available You might want to read `starting a tdi conversion` its in this section, or the 16v conversion, then there`s the 20v which is something else.
  14. found apair of pickup ones- they`re marked + and - which side is which anyone?
  15. reply here cos found stub, was off a pickup so checked to see if part no.s were the same, seems so but it also appears they`re handed- so which side do you want and does anyone know how to tell which is which?
  16. That dipstick could mean something. Still sounds like thermostat, recently fitted a brand new one to the fun--not vw part, can`t remember whose but nearly £20. Never worked at all just overheated. Used a second hand one, perfect. As tom says take it out.
  17. There is something called an interface controller for the obd within the clock circuits.
  18. why is it so far away; if a plan succeeds tomorrow may have the column back if you still need it.
  19. Just been to Brickwerks for some t3 stuff and find Simon sells a plastic T pipe that reconnects a water pipe and takes a vw temp gauge. Solves the fitting 2 temp sensors problem. Around £10.
  20. The complete shaft is no longer available, but the bits to mend it are. The problem is getting the pins out without wrecking the joints. The gearbox end joint is available so fitting the pin is easy, peening the ends is much easier than it looks. The shaft joint can be a problem. I bought another gearbox end and after welding a gearbox end sized bar to the shaft instead of the pin fork, fit the new pin and bolted it up, so can replace, completely, both ends in future. The parts from vag cost about £35, thats with 2 gearbox ends and all the bits, Good luck.
