Another locking question...
Sid Sidgwick replied to Sid Sidgwick's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Cheers ill do that in the morning. -
Morning ladies and gents, I'm looking for a bit of help. My passenger front door deadlocked itself shut, removed door card and took old lock motor unit out, replaced it with one from eBay, plugged in the power and nothing the door still won't lock or unlock electronically. The courtesy light on the bottom of the door is on but mirror does not work. The window has stopped working from the passenger side too (but I may have just forgot to reconnect this) The drivers door module has no obvious signs of corrosion or damp. Any ideas? Thanks Sid.

HELP! - Passenger Front Door is Dead Locked
Sid Sidgwick replied to smallbloke1's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Had the same problem, I took the door card off then took a large chisel and hammer to the door lock, 5 minutes of brute force soon had it opened. -
They have many uses: 1. Car washing bucket if you lose yours 2. Destroying the competition when water fighting 3. Impromptue shield for when wife gets angry if i mention her cooking skills 4. Bass drum in the kitchen drum orchestra 5. Also stops your expensive sink getting scratched (but does look pig awful)

In fairness if she is the one for you then nothing will happen, if she is not then you'll find out when she comes back. Just trust she'll behave so you dont drive yourself insane. ps. Shagascruff is a crap place

Check out www.detailingworld.co.uk for loads of info on it. To be honest detailing and valeting are very far apart, detailing takes hours of practice and skill, whereas valeting does not (in my opinion) as for things you need, as ive just started getting into it a bit for my car: 2 buckets + grit guards A few good microfibre cloths A lambswool mit A good drying towel A good car wash, Meguiars have some good washes A good polish, I use Autoglym super resin polish A good wax, I use collonite 476s A clay kit A pressure washer (snow foam lance is nice if the car is a mess) And this isn't even getting into the realm of serious stuff with machine polishing etc. Baker is the man in the know about all things detailing. Might be a good idea to scout the local neighbourhood with leaflets offering a decent inside and out wash job for a set price and see what comes back.

Mine says it every few months, remove the cd changer, check the cd's for damage and make sure no dust or debris is in the cd changer. This normally fixes the job for me.

octavia 1 4x4 1.8t 150 fuel consumption
Sid Sidgwick replied to diasomie's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
For mine I average around 22-24mpg in town and on a goold long motorway route see 33-38mpg depending on my lead foot -
On the way home up popped this light (little yellow one) ive had a quick flick through the manual and had a quick view using the search bar but couldnt find anything ideal to tell me whats the most likely culprit. Any ideas what the issue could be (Ill be sticking on a code reader tomorrow hopefully-not sure if its vag specific though) and will it likely be an expensive fix (as I had my eyes on a re-map this month :( ) Cheers Sid

Ive done it quite a few times and the biggest tip is when spraying make sure you are in a dustless environment otherwise dont expect to be happy wiht the finished product.

Popped into MSB yesterday for some bits and bobs and have to say great service, friendly, polite and extremely helpful. I can see me spending a lot more money there in the future.

Ok so after having my door deadlooked shut for the last fortnight I managed to get in today by removing the card and smashing the lock to pieces. Replaced with a second hand lock form fleabay and guess what still doesnt work. Ive checked the connector to it and there is power there so im guessing its not a wire problem (also checked the drivers door unit and no corrosion or water ingress to it) any ideas??? Thanks Sid

I might pop down if I get my car fixed in time
