  1. 17" Dorado OEM Alloys As mentioned before the MK III vRS was offered with the above 17" wheels on the continent. Gotta admit I like the look of them - I have the Geminis and I love them but Irish roads aren't really meant for anything close to low profile tyres.
  2. A lesson I've learned is that it's much easier to order the G13 or G12evo premixed rather than concentrated. It's a pain in the backside trying to find demineralised water without being charged an arm and a leg.
  3. I like the results from that kit but me personally I'd hope a professional could do it for me. Painting is an art and the steering wheel is something that's always in your line of sight when driving.
  4. Apologies I went off on a bit of a tangent but didn't even clarify why I did! I have all my radio icons assigned but what the problem is if you accidentally delete the station and re-add it you need to get the usb key again to re add the logo. I'd much rather the radio download the icons and keep them in storage for easier access in the future. First world problems!
  5. I don't think this is possible on the MIB1 anyway. On my own MIB1 Columbus I can't save all of the icons. Shame too considering there's plenty of space on the device itself.
  6. Hi Bugginbob. I'm sorry I can't help as I'm in the exact same situation. It's such a waste having to order a complete set of mats when all but the driver's side are perfect. Most people would be willing to pay a premium for the single mat. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be delighted to hear where we could get one! Thanks
  7. Just to update everyone. Out of curiosity I e-mailed a Dresden based dealer via Google Translate and they were kind enough, despite my lack of knowledge in German, to let me know the timing belt interval - according to your FIN number your vehicle July 2015 Skoda Octavia RS 184bhp is not due a belt change until 210,000km or July 2025. So they're of the opinion that it's ten years. Which I also find intriguing!
  8. I've run this by quite a few mechanics as well and it's surprising how some who were previously working for VAG brands are adamant that it's about mileage and not time on these long life belts. My car is six years old, with 130,000km. I'm going to wait until it's at 150,000 or 7 years old before changing it and the only reason I'm not doing the full 210k is because my coolant mysteriously drained off before so I reckon the water pump is on the way out - and don't think it'll last the full distance! On a side note - I get the impression that the PD engines were far more aggressive on a timing belt than on the CR engines. Would this be right?
  9. Oh yes..I'm going to open this can! So is the G12++/Evo, despite being a number lower, newer than the G13?
  10. Would love to see what would happen to the VRS if it was kitted out with Dynamat or other soundproofing. I'm reluctant to do it myself as I know I'd damage the door cards and other panels while taking them out. It would be amazing to have the best of both worlds - the looks and power of the VRS with the insulation closer to a VW.
  11. Would love to get my hands on such a tool too - that damper rail is a nightmare to deal with!
  12. I'm sorry if this is too ridiculous a question - but am I right in saying the MIB2 units have white backlights behind the buttons as opposed to the green on the MIB1 that matches the rest of the interior of that year's model? It's the only reason I'm sticking with my MIB1 columbus.
  13. This image is exactly like my parents Octavia - you need someone with slender fingers or a pliers that isn't too sharp to get a hold of it and pull it out carefully. The alternative is to take out the tank and then fish it out manually without any fear of it contaminating the system. My own one was the double sealed wall so you could not see it inside the tank without cutting it out. I replaced the tank completely and sold the older one.
  14. This has happened to me too - It's something I intend on bringing up with the dealer on the next service. Seriously is it so much to ask that panels be put back securely?
  15. Speaking of that feature I notice that I have to enable it every time I start the car. Is there any way for the Columbus to remember it?
  16. Hi Rumberake! I don't have the cover either on my MK3 - could be a LHD only cover. The MK2 had a brilliant RHD conversion - the bonnet release and handbrake were moved from left to right in particular. The Mk3 didn't do so well but you'll get used to these missing bits.
  17. Has anyone figured out what coolant VAG have switched to for the newer cars that don't have the silica bag in them? Is it still G13?
  18. Sad to hear it but I suppose it makes sense. Just a shame that the option doesn't exist anymore even via payment - it's all the more frustrating that the MIB1 doesn't have the alternative of android auto/apple carplay. Still love the large screen and canton system that it pumps. It also looks far superior to the tiny screen that was on the bolero of the time.
  19. Now this is news to me. I have an mib1 with canton and didn't take the risk of updating to 411 but I'm disappointed if skoda aren't supporting maps for mib1 anymore as it's something I do annually. Is there an error message when you try to download or install them? Also - is this the case with the vw version of the maps?
  20. Could someone post a guide, image or video about how to be able to see the top of the belt like in the pic above? Is it simply a case of pulling the cover to one side in the octavia?
  21. Welcome OP! Be prepared for a lot of mixed answers. It all comes down to your engine. Whether it's Petrol/Diesel and also engine size. Some engines have water pump on other side of the engine, some have chains instead of belts and some belts can last 210,000km without a time limit and others 210,000km or 5 years whichever comes first. Add to that the debates about how Skoda in Germany, VW and Audi in USA/Canada don't have any time limits on the same diesel engines and it all gets a bit messy.
  22. That looks like muck, not silica. Might it be worth getting it analysed at a lab to verify its contents - reason being that if it's a manufacturing defect then surely the onus would be on vag to fix the problem without cost to you?
  23. That was some work Bap! Well done! Was the old silica bag pierced or was it still fully intact? I ask as I've changed my tank to a bagless revision and I'm dreading the same thing happening to my car.
  24. For goodness sake! It's as if Skoda decided to care less and less about the RHD conversions of each generation - they went from a near perfect conversion on the MKII to leaving the handbrake and the bonnet release on the wrong side on the MKIII and then only go halfway with moving the parking brake to the correct side on the MKIV while then opting to leave the USB C on the wrong side of the mirror. I'm sure people would have paid the extra €10 per car it would have cost to have had the MKIV properly converted to RHD and have everything on the correct side. The power connection not being switched over is poor and shows how the RHD market really isn't given the same consideration as the home market. It's the little things that can bug me about a car - and this would be one of them. Does the issue about not being able to open the passenger door to access the bonnet release when the battery is dead still exist on the IV as it does on the III?
  25. Just an update to this - got a mechanic mate to take a look. Turns out the plastic is actually a coating for a metal part which is part of the locking mechanism. The plastic itself has come loose but shouldn't be a problem as the metal is still in good nick. He greased up the entire mechanism and it's back to normal. He was delighted as he thought he was going to be fishing for a snapped cable which apparently is a nightmare in these cars.
