I would ask the OP if you're that concerned about saving fuel, are you planning to strip the car of any excess weight too?, the carpet, the passenger seat the rear seat bench etc? im sure that would have a greater fuel saving effect than switching off the DRLs

Just looking on Halfords to get some oil for SWMBO's car to do a change, had a look at the Mobil 1 which is normally £50 ish for a 5L bottle of 5-30 ESP Should be £51.99 for 5L , says on offer 30% off £36.39 however when you add to the basket it takes another 30% off which makes it £25.47 for 5L which seems very cheap to me, even with the 30% discount at ECP it's still £36. I did a reserve and collect online and picked a bottle up in the local shop at that price! bargain! Seems to be the same for all the Mobil oils on offer at the moment.

Exactly AMG is pretty much Mercs sport styling brand like gti for vw and VRS for Skoda, a lot of people have spent over 22k on an octavia before and will. Ali what exactly is your problem ?

Because quite simply i didn't want one three years ago i made my choice at the time and picked the Octavia due to the offers at the time such as scrappage as i had a very old car here i wanted to get rid of too. When the lease is up on this Merc who knows what i'll go for, i wouldn't be the first or the last member to go from a Skoda to a Merc or a BMW or something else then onto another brand altogether .

Exactly on the company car lease scheme prestige cars tend to often be better value than others due to residuals etc. I'm sorry but who rattled your cage how can you presume to know my circumstances? for a start when i purchased my Octavia brand new 3 years ago it was considerably more than 15k, also i make a decent enough living and this Merc wouldn't be the most expensive car driven by a member on here by a long shot! The one I've picked is the half and half which was the same as the demonstrator they let me have for a weekend and i agree with you i prefer the half leather i found it much softer and more comfortable than leather. I just found some of the build stuff to be fantastic and how anal they are about stuff apparently every switch in a modern Merc only has 0.8mm of travel and requires 4nm of pressure to apply it. Even the fact that the AMG models have a hidden spoiler in the rear taillights, if you look at the picture there are a series of holes in the tail lights and the way they have designed it apparently it provides down-force in place of a traditional spoiler.

What you're doing there Seb is mixing up lease costs with list prices, when it comes to leasing the figures are passed through a load of sums by the lease company things like residuals, running costs etc. For example when i was doing the order today a Prius was actually about 30% more to lease despite being a cheaper car list price wise

Not as a lease car no, in reality the lease costs of it vs a well specced new mk3 VRS its only about 20% more per month, but crucially this is over 2000cc only just though, so according to HMRC mileage rates its 18ppm vs 15ppm

Well following my test drives and considerable thinking about it i've finally made the choice and ordered my new company car, wont come as a surprise to some of you i've gone for a C250 AMG Sport plus saloon in fire opal red as an automatic. It's been nice owning the Octavia but its time to move on, i'll still be around on the site causing trouble as ever. Car arrives in 6-12 weeks apparently Octavia will be going at the end of September.
