  1. Bet the wheels would be worth more than the car.
  2. A salesman's dream come true. And just keep your fingers crossed that everything is all right, after all what can possibly go wrong !!!!!!!!! Must say that I would not do it this way, rather be safe than sorry. I always fully inspect the car and all the paper work before signing and paying for anything.
  3. I am most interested with reference to VW 507 Spec oil as to "what oil is best" Obversely price is always a consideration, at least for most people, but other than checking that it is an oil conforming to VW 507 Spec. what else should/can we do to ensure "what oil is best" So then what criteria is used to make judgement as to what is best. Best for what/when/application, and how do we Joe Public understand and judge how this should be carried out. Just a thought - perhaps some expert can throw some light on the subject.
  4. It would seem that "pokerdemon" is hell bent on going down the route of complete self destruction for the total engine. All the expert advise repeatedly given "Westallc" falling on deaf ears. Whats the purpose of asking advise and then ignoring it. What is it about the word "NO" that some folk do not understand.
  5. Another well oiled phase, which always brings a smile to my face, and I am now beginning to believe it to be true. Bmer - the poor man's Mondeo. Just think about it for moment!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I think the OP is asking for the number of hours to change a component, not the life of it. In other words, how many workshop hours (time) is charged to replace the listed items.
  7. Perhaps there is some setting in VCDS that will enable you reset the width dimension so that you can get out. If not then a FBH would be the next best approach.
  8. I can say quite positively that I have never regretted having the DSG box. As regards the long term reliability we shall have to wait and see. However, I do respect the transmission by always selecting N whenever I think it is justified. This type of transmission requires more contemplation than a conventional auto slush box, and needs understanding to get the best from it. There are times when it is more efficient in tiptronic mode rather than drive and this will vary according to driving style. Many will tell you that the paddles shift leavers are no use at all, don't believe it. There is something rather smug and satisfying using these very tactile leavers and they add to a more relaxed driving experience all-round.
  9. There are two additional features which I would liked to have switched on had I known about them at the time of delivery. 1. Activate the second nearside rear fog light. 2. Activate the front fog lights instead of the head lights if you have the coming/leaving home feature (auto lights)
  10. Thank you for the reply. May I comment as follows. I wouldn't expect the cable to have Ross Tech on it as they are not supplying it. The other side of it being too cheap is that possibly the other is too dear. Undoubtedly RT have worked hard and long to develop their products and their prices reflect their market position. Of course no one wants to be ripped off and assuming they have patent protection then they should actively peruse any counter fitters. I can understand why having purchased a RT cable + software there is resistance to anyone purchasing a clowned copy. How many could hold their hand up and say they have never downloaded or copied a disc and not paid for it. All am am trying to do is to understand the market position for this non RT product, so please keep the comments flowing.
  11. Thanks for your reply much appreciated. I am trying to get my feet on the ground on this one so please bear with me if I ask the obvious I thought the product being offered by VAG Diagnostics was in fact a fully compatible registered VCDS system with software to VCDS 908, 908.1, 912, and 10.6. Is this system different to the cheap K-line interface and registered VCDS-lite . You state the company is "dodgy folks with a distinct lack of contact details selling illegal cloned cables" Could you please expand on this as I would not want to be part of anything associated with this. So far I have been unable to find anything to support this statement. Having read up on a lots of postings on VCDS it would appear that there is a strong anti-feeling against anything that is not from RT Any further comments appreciated.
  12. I am considering the purchase of VAG Diagnostics VCDS Cable & Software (Version 10.6 & 908/912) from VAG *********** Ltd **************************** This is for use on my Octy 1.4 TSI - year 2010 Please could someone advise me on this product and what are the limitations on using it. Will I have to register the software and pay extra to use it? This product is priced at £75.95 where as the Ross- Tech system seems to start at around USD 249 Whats the difference in features and operation and what is there extra in the Ross-Tech system? The reason why I want the VCDS is to be able to read fault codes and change various settings ie. DRL's, Rear fog lights, cornering lights etc etc. Advice please What should I buy and where from? Thanks for any advise/help forthcoming.
  13. I suggest that you have it resprayed a lovely girlie bright PINK, adorned with flowers, or what ever tickles your fancy. People will look with disbelief and be far too busy to even notice little old you behind the wheel. What price for being famous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Correction needed or many stealer's are going to get bummer calls
  15. Can some one please explain to me how this can possibly be right. These figures are all at the old VAT rate of 17.5% So quote "RRP £19515 so this the price you start with. Without vat = £16099.87 " Therefore, if I take the quoted pre Vat figure of £16099.87 and add back the 17.5% VAT (£2817.48) this should bring me back to the original RRP of £19515.00 which it clearly does NOT. £16099.87 + £2817.48 + £18917.35 Surely the pre VAT figure at 17.5% would have been £19515.00 / 1.175 = £16608.51 Totally confused.com
  16. When connecting a charger to a battery which is still connected to the car, ALWAYS make sure that charger is not switched on until both leads are firmly and correctly connected.
  17. Useful information Please could you advise why you had the firm ware update and what did it achieve. What is the latest version of this update ? I to would like to have the corner lights activated could you advise what the charge was for this. Many thanks for any reply.
  18. Are there any recorded cases of this unusual tyre wear on non vRS models ?
  19. If anyone can get this to work, then I would like to know how I can turn my Octy into an RS 5. Ideally this should be at the lowest possible cost and preferably covered by a full Audi warranty.
  20. So where does this statement come from then!!!!!!! Doesn't appear to be a loss making situation for Skoda. Škoda Auto Announces Record Deliveries and Operating Profit in the First Nine Months of 2010 Record sales of 568,990 year-to-date, up 12.5% Operating profit up 64.4% to £280 million Net liquidity significantly improved Škoda Auto delivered a record 568,990 vehicles to customers in the first nine months of 2010, helping the company to significantly increase its turnover (up 16.3% to £5.6 billion) and operating profit, which increased by 64.4% to £280 million, when compared to the same period last year. “The positive financial figures for the first nine months of 2010 are the result of our sustained and profitable growth strategy”, said Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Board of Škoda Auto a.s. “We have never sold more cars in the first nine months of a year than we have done in 2010. We will continue on this path and, in doing so, we want to expand considerably in global growth markets such as Russia, India, and China, while at the same time strengthening our position in Europe.” For the entire year of 2010, Vahland expects a clear increase in deliveries and the operating profit. 21. This whole posting is driving me crazy, I still don't know whether I'm coming or going. I have read it through again and again and it still just doesn't make sense. Wouldn't it be interesting to hear from the dealer involved in this saga, he must be tearing his hair out and ready to agree to any thing, I know I would.
