  1. My Octavia is due to go for service to the Skoda Dealers in Leeds tomorrow morning. This afternoon I got a phone call from Service reception to say that Skoda have run out of oil filters for the 1.2 (which mine is) and the 1.4 petrols. There are none in the Country and there will be a wait of about 2 weeks to get some more..hencing servicing cancelled. Now forgive me if I sound a bit cynical here and I dont know why but I dont believe them.. ...Am I wrong in casting aspersions in their direction??..Skoda Customer services have closed for the day so hoping someone on here can help?..I did suggest getting one from the local VW dealer but that fell on deaf ears......Your help would be appreciated..Thanks
  2. At the start `of the season` my Octy was almost undriveable it was so bad, but I changed the pollen filter, even though only a year old, and it did make a big differenc e....Still mists and sometimes, depending on the temp, you have to sit for 5 mins getting rid of the damp. Really annoying though.
  3. I previously posted about an issue I had with this dealership, and in many respects that has not changed. However full marks to Ben Redfern of both DM Keith and this forum who has brought the issue to the attention of the dIrectors, resulting in a long and interesting phone call from Angus Keith this afternoon, who has taken my anger and concerns seriously. As a result I am happy to change the previous entry and pass on the fact that the top people in this firm do read what we write and in my case resolve it.. I still stand by the fact that they have some senior staff who are letting both themselves and the customers down but at least the `gaffers` know about it now and that makes all the difference... A big thank you to Ben and Angus .............as a result will change my opinion and still use DM Keith but be a bit more selective as to which branch I use.
  4. At best the DSG box is a bit agricultural and far from the industry best......It does tend to `lurch` if you are trying to manoevering with it ie back it into the garage, and rolls back alarmingly if on a slight incline, say at traffic lights. At work I drive, shall we say very large Ford automatics made in Australia which are streets ahead of the VAG offering. They really need to do better..
  5. I have the DSG SE 1.2 fitted with traction control/hill start assist etc only it doesnt seem to work for me. No matter what type of hill, it rolls back and its a question of holding on the brakes etc. Drive a large Ford auto for work and that works fine, tbh its a far better gearbox than the DSG , now have I missed something here or do I need to get the sensors etc checked out??..thanks
  6. Like Tony2311 I have the 1.2 DSG and its fine powerwise, even with a load on.However the unreliability reports are a bit disconcerting especially as this is a car I love. The small turbo engines though, I think, are here to stay. The days of the 1.8 or 2.0 are over. Ford have just released the Focus in a sub 1 litre version and other manufacturers are falling over themselves to bring their compact engines to market .....Different times
  7. We`d take anything in part exchange for `Papa Smurf`
  8. I understand from my dealer (DM Keith Ossett) that it is possible to retrofit and have the display on the radio. What stopped me was the eye watering price. They stated that due to the re wire a lot of the interior has to be removed hence higher labour time. But I understand it is possible.
  9. Yes would agree the 1.2 is an excellent engine and does what its suppose to do with good economy. Didnt know about the supply situation though. The only problem is the turbo lag, which has been improved a bit by the er `product enhancement` or recall as I insist on calling it . What car? described the 1.2 engine as the pick of the bunch. My dealership say that most of their Octy sales are this engine.
  10. I heartily concur Xman having just moved from the Fabia myself. The Octavia is a limo by comparison. Glad you got the problem sorted
  11. Therein lies the problem with servicing outside of the dealer network. If you end up with something that isnt straight forward, they can be as awkward as they want and you end up paying. On the other hand I had a Renault Modus that went wrong out of warranty but because it had always been dealer serviced Renualt agreed to pay the bill. Swings and roundabouts
  12. I have a 1.2 Octavia which had the recall/modification done yesterday. As far as I know its to do with getting a smoother get away and less snatch especially with the DSG. So far so good, does seem better in that respect.
  13. To be fair they have really turned this branch around and its one worth using. I`ve just traded my Fabia in for an Octavia there, got a decent deal, dealt with very well by Richard, for which many thanks. Service reception guy is excellent and works hard to keep you happy..Worth a try but yes everywhere in Yorkshire is DM Keith land now
  14. Yup and there`s still plenty of snobs who will pay four grand just to get the four rings...............overpaid muppets
  15. Didnt know about this mod so a very Big thanks Xman. Mine has some serious lag on it so I`ve rung the dealer and its booked it for the fix...Apparantly they are inundated with this particular recall.
  16. Having had experience of both cars, the 105 Fabia goes like a scalded cat  and the tendency to boot it for short periods of time is immense and something most drivers just cant avoid doing....myself well included. When its driven like this it will drink fuel like you wouldnt beleive yet at the same time its so smooth and quiet you dont realise whats happening hence the complaints re frequent refuelings. You do have to drive it sedately to get the economy not to mention having to use higher octane fuel and NO supermarket stuff either..
  17. I`ve got the 1.2 Octy DSG having just changed from the similar engined Fabia and to be honest dont find the consumption much different. I`ve done one long run since I got it and the computer shows 50.2 overall...admittedly that was keeping it under 70 and driving carefully and avoiding `sport` mode. I havent had chance to check it more thoroughly but so far so good. There are fuel complaints by Yeti owners but what do you expect with a slab sided 4 x 4 type vehicle producing wind resistance and an engine that might labour a bit under the circumstances. A big ask really
  18. On my second Skoda and so far so good..If it continues like this will have a third
  19. Kethjohnhall The 1.2 is a good buy, IMO, i`m impressed with it. You are quite right though re the lag from a standing start, its pronounced. Now I think that is a fault with the 105 engine. I`ve just moved up from a Fabia manual with the 105bhp and that had the lag as well (well commented on in the Fabia threads). If pulling off from a roundabout, it seems to help, if you drop into sport mode and floor it until you get going. Dont panic its liveable with, just takes a bit of getting used to.. Keep looking forward to your delivery and enjoy it. You wont be disappointed
  20. From 2010MY the price of retro fitting rockets.....had a quote for mine which was eyewatering
  21. Know what you mean, just chopped my Fabia Estate (not Vrs) in for an Octy as Grandchild due soon and more space needed...Fabia was fine but the Octy is in a class above TBH...loving it  See you on the `Other` channel maybe
  22. I`ve just bought a 1.2 tsi dsg and its excellent.Very adequate for what I need. Am taking it on a longer run on Monday and will know better what the fuel consumption is like, although the computer is showing upper 30`s..I`ve just moved from a similar engined Fabia Estate and this is simply in a different league.
  23. had to burn the midnight oil to get there though normally do keep em longer but didn`nt see this expansion coming at the time
  24. Hi all I have had a Fabia 1.2 tsi estate which I`m chopping in tomorrow for an Octavia, same engine, but has the DSG box. Took it for a good test drive today, over some very bumpy roads and some very steep hills, with 3 up to see what it was like. I have to say i was mightily impressed. It did all I needed it to do and provides me with a lot more space we are going to need for the impending delivery of our first grandchild  The car is 7 months old, lowmileage with about 4k off the list price and got a very good deal, all round,at DM Keith, Ossett so I`ll be keeping in touch on this side of the site now. All I need to know is how you change your `car details ` at the side of the posting..anyone know??... paully
  25. I agree the 105 Tsi is a great little engine and for enthusiastic drivers its fantastic, but I honestly feel its a bit overpowered at times. If there is any sort of damp on the road surface you have to set off gently, and if you put too many revs down to the road wheels the tyres just spin and you go nowhere. Very annoying. Oh yes and best not to go out in the dark, the headlights are useless ...and as Mike above said DONT feed it supermarket juice Seriously though its a great value buy new or used :sun:
