Today the dealer replaced the batteries with Panasonic branded ones and the warning message at startup has gone. No magic button presses or procedures, just swapped the batteries for Panasonic branded ones. Annoying as I've tried every brand but this one!

Unfortunately I've been told today that no fix currently exists for my car to set the distance to KM and speed to KMH. I've also been told that should a fix be released after the car's warranty runs out then I would have to pay to have it installed! If that comes to pass I'll be lodging a complaint with Skoda UK as to why they sold the car in the first place when legally the car must be able to perform this change: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regulation/35/made Fun times and I'll continue to use my paper converter until the problem is eventually (possibly never) resolved.

I've been having this issue for months and no new battery will solve it. I've changed batteries in both keys. My car is going to the dealer at the end of this month and this is one of the things I've asked them to look at.

I find sync is maintained if I use the left hand temperature +/- buttons but sync is lost if I use the right hand +/- buttons. This is with 1896.

No matter what brand of batteries I use, the car is continuously telling me "Please replace key battery". I've asked the dealer to investigate when the car is in at the end of the month as I also think it's a bit suspect.

That was kind of them, last year I printed one of these to drive in Europe. After a week away I'd just about memorised the conversion!

My 70 plate is due at the dealer on the 23rd to have the KPH TPI update performed. I'll update here with how they get on.

That looks awesome! Was it an update to the phone or the car?

I have the same problem on my 70 plate and I was told by the dealer in April that this was a known problem with no available fix. There may be one now though so worth checking with your dealer.

Yup, this started happening to me recently despite new batteries in the key fob. I'm currently ignoring it and I keep a couple of spares in the glove box for when it eventually does run out!

The soft brake pedal is something I've come to live with after having the car a year and a half. I assumed it was something to do with the way the ACC automatic braking had been implemented.

See roottoot's post on this thread for the cold start jerking: I have the same problem and have learned to wait 45 seconds after turning the engine on before pulling away. I also notice small engine hiccups as the engine goes into eco mode (switching to 2 cylinders). Watch the dash to see if this is happening when your hiccups occur. My brakes squeak at low speeds and I've come to accept that too. I don't experience the other things you mentioned (but others might). Mark

Do you have speed and distance in the Settings -> Units menu with 1896? I made the same leap from 1668 to 1896 (but without the trial kph/mph fix) and those 2 options went away with the software update. Not that they did anything for me but I'm curious of your experience.

Sorry to hear yours is still having issues. I'm at 1896 in a SEL FE and my ACC is working well in the UK. I also recently spent time driving in Europe and it knew I was driving on the right (without me changing any settings) and wouldn't let me undertake on the right of a vehicle.

Yes, there is definitely an option to stop the rear wiper coming on when the front wipers are in use. I can't remember the exact location in the settings but it's definitely there as this used to bug me so I disabled it. If no one replies tonight with the details I'll take a look in the settings tomorrow morning.

You can set the SEL FE into Sport mode which I find firms up the steering. I use this mostly for motorway driving to avoid having to make lots of little corrections. You have to change the driving mode each time you turn on the ignition but the option is there if the light steering really bugs you. With 1896 software the car is really performing well and has managed a trip through France (motorways with ACC), to the black forest in Germany (windy mountain roads), without fault.

That's what I find strange about the whole experience as I know you have a working solution but Skoda don't seem to want to roll it out more widely. Maybe it requires hardware changes and they don't have a good supply of parts? Or maybe they're looking for a software only solution to make it cheaper to resolve? In either case we have to sit and wait for an unknown period of time for whatever general solution they come up with. I'm off to Europe this weekend so I've printed out a KPH->MPH conversion table to pin to the dashboard 😆.

Yes, the KMH/MPH is the one remaining issue I have with my car. That is, the Sat Nav cannot be switched to miles and the speedo on the Virtual Cockpit cannot be switched to KPH In version 1668 of the infotainment software I was able to follow this part of the manual and change the units (but it had no effect): ŠKODA OCTAVIA 01.2020 Page 64 - Settings Setting units The units are set in the following Infotainment menu. Menu -> Settings Now on version 1896, units are no longer in the Menu -> Settings location. When I queried this with my local Skoda garage they raised a case with Skoda UK and the response I got was that it's a known problem and that a fix is being worked on. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I added 1L and after about 5 miles of driving the warning light disappeared.

Hi all, I got my car back today after it was updated by the garage from 1668 to 1896. There's a MASSIVE improvement in the software between these two versions including responsiveness of the UI, Android Auto directions show up in the virtual cockpit, larger font/buttons at the bottom of the screen and more. The one remaining issue I have is that the satnav is stuck on KM and the speedo is stuck on MPH. Are other people able to switch their Units in the Menu->Settings->Units sub folder for "Distance" and "Speed"? Previously on version 1668 I was able to see distance and speed in the list of units, but changing them did nothing. Now on 1896 they have been removed entirely. The garage has opened a case with Skoda UK as I want to make the satnav useful in the UK by switching distance to Miles and I need to switch to KMH when driving in Europe this summer. Thanks, Mark
