  1. Quinten, have you got a photo of the interior at night? I'd love to see what the MFD looks like lit up. J
  2. No help I know, but mine does the same thing. Often on a warm start, but not always. Goes away after a few minutes of driving. Fingers crossed my light doesn't come on :( J
  3. There's loads of mistakes on the 06/07 map disk in my area that weren't there on the 2005 disc. They're mainly with the incorrect placement of POIs (like the Skoda Dealer, and various filling stations). It's really annoying! I don't think the on-line map correction facility shows POIs, so I suppose the easiest way to check would be if someone brings the new disc to GTi International. *plug* *plug* J
  4. My MFA usually lies its *** off. While it normally claims I've got 650 on a tank, I can only do 600 at a stretch, and usually fill up around the 500 mark. I'd push it further, but my journeys are quite long and fuel is much more expensive if I get caught out half way :( I did once have nearly 800 on the miles-to-empty shown - was a big fill up after a long economy run. The trip indicated 72mpg / actual 64mpg, which is about 10 mpg more than usual. Had to keep it well under the limit and coast amongst the trucks on the inside lane! Hey, sometimes you get bored and want to try something different J
  5. Some guy in Leicester (J K Fuels) quoted me 82p a litre for 25 litrer drums, 100% bio. This was back in December. Wasn't brave enough to take him up on it, although a switch would save me about
  6. I'm going with 135K worth of stone chips Just give it a wax and a vacuum and it'll be fine. J
  7. Cool, got another 25k left then. I know people will say "oh, I change mine at blah blah anyway", but the same people will probably tell me that I shouldn't leave the oil in there for 28,000 miles either. I say, I'm not arguing with the manufacturer, especially if it saves me time and money. It's not an interference engine though, is it? :sofahide: J
  8. The service book in mine says 90,000 km, which in Skoda terms means 60k. Previous owner had a service at 56k, but left the belt until 82k?! J
  9. Farmer's (Leicester) have invited me along as well. They're offering "Wine, Canapes and Light Refreshments", along with "For Charity: Quiz / Treasure Hunt, Fun Competitions and Draw". First prize is a 2.0 TDi Superb for a week. Should be able to get a couple of days out of it before the DPF light comes on RSVP was by Friday, and I forgot, so no canapes for me :( J
  10. 2001 Elegance TDi 110 would get my vote, but you might struggle to find one for
  11. I had a cracking weekend at Rockingham for rounds 4, 5 and 6 of the British Touring Car Championship. While the standard ticket doesn't get you into the posh tents (they all say "For the guests of XYZ Sponsor only" :( ) where they serve real food on proper plates, they do get you into the paddock. You can wander around, peer through the open doors of the pit garages and the team trailers. You can also go up on to the roof of the pit building and look down as the cars are prepared and sent out! If you've seen the ITV3 coverage, the interview with Plato at the end, well I'm just out of shot up on the roof standing above them The guy who heckles Louise Goodman during her readout of the final results was standing right next to me too There was some really good action and no shortage of different places to sit, from most of which you could see the whole track! The only place with a limited view was the pit roof, because it was lower than the grandstand, but you could see more of the pit area from there anyway. I just moved around between each race and picked a different spot for each one. Highly recommended. Some piccies: Picasa Web Albums - JP - Rockingham BTCC J
  12. Think of it like a roof window - it lets the sunshine in! When it's a little overcast it brightens up the cabin quite a bit. Have to pull the cover back closed when it's dark though :( Anyway, sometimes you want to turn the A/C off, wind the windows down, crank open the sunroof and hoof it. Keeps you less insulated from the world, seeing the clouds roll by above, hearing the pizzzzzzzzzzz-chooo of the turbo. Lovely. J
  13. The engine (I believe - it's the only 6600 cc GM Turbo Diesel I can find). Needs a FMIC obviously... Chevy : Turbo-diesel: 6.6L Duramax LLY, '04-05 Make it into the mongrel's big brother? ..:: Superchips ::.. Viewing product: GM Duramax DPI Kit J
  14. I've got a 2001 Octavia 110 TDi (Engine: ASV, Gearbox: 5-speed 02J-EGS). Does anyone know the gear ratios / final drive? Having read Horsepower vs torque I was interested in working through the Torque / rpm tables for myself. You know, like you do J
  15. I got the big one (<--) but I've since missed: * 111111 * 112358 (come on, didn't you go to school?!) * 123456 Still in time for 135711 though. Is this sad? J
  16. 6.6 litre GM Turbo Diesel - only 375 bhp, but 705 Nm torque! Where the hell did they get that, a tank? That's one hell of an auto box they've hooked it up to. I always wanted to put a 16 cylinder Volvo truck engine in the back of a Volvo estate. I don't think I'll bother now, this looks much classier J Edit: Oh my ***, it's a sled! Edit2: Picture won't inline, so clicky.
  17. Humm, well it seems I've actually been driving with GALA disabled recently. I pressed the switch again, but this time while stationary, and it fixed itself. I can't say I'd noticed the arrow moving in big lumps before, but it is now moving more smoothly. And the volume now goes up and down. Don't know how it got turned off  but I've learnt not to turn it back on while going down the motorway! J
  18. The GALA on my satnav seems shot. The arrow seems to move on screen OK but the volume doesn't go up and down with speed any more. If I press the big red GALA disable button the volume goes through the roof; if you turn it down on the satnav there seem to be two settings, off (just hisses quietly) and deafening. Having clicked the button so many times I can't remember which of the above is 'enabled' and which is 'disabled'. Any ideas? J
  19. The MFD is a little more expensive and a little less feature-filled than a TomTom, but more accurate. And it looks good! I'd probably just buy a separate DVD/LCD unit for the rear seats. It'll be cheaper and easier! Technically you can't play a video anywhere the driver can see it while you're on the move anyway, plus the MFD will blank the video input when it detects the GALA pulses. You can disable the GALA, but then the navigation isn't as good. J
  20. AVIC-D3 Pioneer Navigation - GPS system - Navigation  AVIC-HD1BT Pioneer Navigation - GPS system - Navigation   Nice units. Look quite theivable though. I mean, would anyone want a GPS system with "Skoda" printed on the front? J
  21. Stupid brackets. VW Group Option Codes Decoder J
  22. VRStu: Got some more pics now, and a better camera too Tom: You can either get an audio line-in (seperate to the CD changer, yay) with a lead (about £20) or get video in with a special S-video to MFD adaptor box (about £100). You could plug a DVD in there (or a PC, or a console, etc) but the screen resolution isn't great (400x300 odd I think) and it's 4:3, not 16:9. I hear the TV-tuner option isn't too hot either. I don't think you can get the video out of the unit for rear-seat TVs - it's just not that advanced. Looks a damned sight better than a Symphony rad/cass though! Plus the gyro/ABS system is better than plain GPS for getting you around town and through tunnels/underpasses. Budget £200-£250 for the unit (on ebay), plus £30 for the plug-and-play cable adaptor and GPS aerial (on ebay again), plus another £80 for a new map disc. If you buy a map disc off ebay, make sure it looks legit. If it's a few years old, then fine. If it's supposedly 'new' then I wouldn't bother - the one I got was a pirate copy on CD-R :(. Navshop.com and bluespot.co.uk will see you right. If you want traffic updates (turn left at next junction to avoid traffic jam...) you need a TMC box. The TMC box is also required to make the steering wheel controls and maxi dot work, on some cars. It's not a plug and play fit either - I think you have to start splicing wires together. That's a whole minefield I've happily avoided so far. The part numbers you want will begin 3B0 (for the passat). The VW unit has red LEDs but the Skoda unit (1U0) has green LEDs. Fitting's dead easy - see VRStu's nifty guide J
