  1. It would be really weird to own console games without owning a console.
  2. Think I got one of the last Digital Editions on Amazon this morning. Work colleague came down and boasted about ordering one on Amazon (I'd assumed I'd been too late as when I looked when I got to work they had none available), I checked again and they had the Digital Edition in stock, so clicked a few times and spent a load of money. Went back to the page about 10 minutes after a friend was talking about being unable to find any and they were out of stock again. Pretty much everywhere is out now though. Argos is going to get hammered tomorrow morning when they release their stock!
  3. We've been trying to make a similar choice. I love the look and feel of Nest, but it's so locked down to Google it's hard to justify over a Honeywell or similar system that will work with our HomeKit house. We've got Ikea lighting and outlets, some general HomeKit bits and quite a bit of Elgato Eve stuff that all connects to HomeKit; meaning Apple's Home App (or Siri) on our phones is the main controller for anything smart related, and it's all in one place. Ironically the only smart stuff we have that doesn't fit that ecosystem is our Nest Protects (fire alarms) which are excellent pieces of kit, but just don't fit into the 'smarthome' that we've built up. I'm not sure I want to add to that split with the Nest Thermostat when it's something that we'll likely be controlling quite often as the house is old and does heat up a bit funny (in a terraced street so often our heating pattern is highly dependant on how much the neighbours are heating their houses too). The ability to control it through a central hub on our devices (rather than the physical thermostat hardware) is probably more of a pull than a nice looking 'stat and probably (for us) more important than Nest's 'learning' features. But I totally agree that almost all the the other smart systems have ugly-as-sin thermostats. Elgato and others do smart TRVs that work independent of your thermostat which we're looking into now as an option (HomeKit compatible). Works out a lot more expensive, but would give us individual room smart control. I'm not sure if they'd mess with Nest's 'learning' features if you had them together though?
  4. We have a Reolink Argus Pro that is currently used as a baby cam – you can get a wall mount for it if you want it outside. It doesn't constantly record, but will capture on a PIR sensor if you have a SD card in it. The battery lasts a few weeks with occasional triggering, but you can buy a solar panel that connects to it for about 15 quid which should boost the longevity if you have it in/near a place that gets sun? Connects via WiFi and you can access it from a phone app. It won't integrate with an existing CCTV system or 3rd party software though - so may not be what you're after? I'm probably planning to repurpose it as a CCTV camera when we don't have need for it in the nursery anymore.
  5. Never used dreamhost, but if this is still up to date: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/215414867-How-do-I-add-custom-DNS-records- you should be able to add a TXT record from the Manage Domains page – just make sure it's for lists.maughan.co.uk as you already have a SPF for .maughan.co.uk in there.
  6. GDPR non-compliance fines are levied on a per-case basis, but with no real guidelines short of “effective, proportionate and dissuasive”. That's why everyone's looking at these big fines since GDPR came in as guidance really. Legislation gives two tiers of punishment - up to 10m Euros / 2% of annual turnover or up to 20m Euros / 4% of annual turnover, dependant on the severity of the breach, but how they choose an actual number is pretty much guesswork at this stage. The amount of effort a company has put into adhering to the GDPR is likely to help reduce the fine, but I don't think there's any kind of math used against a criteria or anything. Staff have a duty to report any breaches to their DPO, and an organisation should notify the ICO of any severe breach within 72 hours anyway, so I doubt there'd be any reward unless your employer is super happy you've just saved their arse from it turning from a small breach that no one's noticed into a severe problem that could cost the company millions without your action.
  7. Your main domain's DNS zone should be where your subdomain records are anyway, so adding a TXT record for the lists subdomain will be fine (you should have an A record pointing to the IP address for the lists domain in there already?). I don't know if it will help with the problem, but it'll definitely work as a DNS entry.
  8. Incognito will ignore any current cookies/sessions you have active on your browser. As a cache/cookie troubleshooting measure I use it all the time with my colleagues. Also great if you need to log into a site with two different accounts as they're essentially treated as two different browser instances (though the Incognito tab will obviously not save anything during your session). Saves me opening a new browser when I want to check email on two Office365 accounts.
  9. I have the Goodyears all round and find them a nice balance between price/performance for an all-year tyre. Always hated them in snow though, so might be a bad time of year to fit them and get an accurate feel of what they're like.
  10. I just ran the first horse theft mission as I'm still completing the story. Didn't like that it forced me into matchmaking even though it said the mission was 1-4 players. Made me laugh as memories of my MMO days came back; as in the middle of a large firefight all of my 'teammates' started looting the bodies I'd shot, while ignoring the actual bad guys still shooting, and leaving me to deal with them. At least GTA didn't have to deal with loot theft. Definitely a 'play with friends' game!
  11. Beta tomorrow then! Well, Wednesday for me as I didn’t want to throw my mortgage at a videogame. Looks like posse’s are up to 7 players. From the sounds of the announcement it looks positive for a start. We’ll see how microtransactions fit in... Excited, but also realise I’m less than 50% through the single player campaign, so might have to join online late (after a quick gander at beta, obviously).
  12. Just did the bank robbery in Chapter 3 and I now have a surplus of $3,000. Camp is fully upgraded and I own all the guns and clothing I realistically feel I need (that can be bought rather than crafted, anyway). I've just figured out that the economy in Online is going to be very broken and wonder exactly how mission rewards are going to work in the wake of having much less to spend on. And in a game where 50c buys you a bath or a shot of whiskey I think buying the new Grotti Mustang Thoroughbred 1bhp superhorse for $120,000 is going to seem a little excessive. Still interested to see if they have a solution for this up their sleeves though.
  13. Article sounds like VW are just supporting Siri commands in their app, it's not a HomeKit type interface direct with the car, so it's still VW that are writing the link between Car-Net and the vehicle. Siri's just being used on the phone end as a macro for the app really.
  14. Online was touted as 'November', so pretty imminent, but could be in beta for a while before full release. R* have been quite tight lipped about it so far. If it follows the schedule of GTA/GTA Online release then it's due this Friday, but I'd not be surprised it it was end of the month really. I got the Special edition I think, simply as it had an extra story mission included, but unless you're desperate to get a head start in online or the extra cosmetic bits then standard will be fine. You also get GTA$ for the various specials if you're still online for that. But the premium is only slightly better than a shark card so not a game-changer.
  15. I do worry about how R* plan to monetise online in the long run. There's a massive host of mundane customisation options in single player, gun engravings, colours, scopes etc. So I think they'll start as they did with GTA and have a cut-down version of the main game. If they continue that with story driven updates like GTA did in the beginning then it'll be fine for a while. I don't see how they can write in the stuff that has ruined GTA without really breaking the USP of the game, but when it comes to shark cards I'm sure they'll eventually figure a way. But online aside; if you're not just after the maniacal non-stop action of GTA and don't mind a slower paced game then RDR and RDR2 are fantastic single-player games. Especially for completionists, if you're into side quests and maxing out crafting and exploration goals. I spent almost 2 hours last night mostly just hunting deer and game to get some pelts for crafting. (I also visited a sharpshooter and got into a small war with about 20 bounty hunters who had a truck with a gatling gun on it, so it's not all slow.) I pre-ordered simply for the single player experience. After playing the first one I was happy this would be value for money. If I can get a semi-decent online experience out of it then that's a bonus. If it can keep me interested for a couple of years or more like GTA did then I'll just be extra happy. As I said, the potential for online is HUGE. But it'll depend on how much they centre it around microtransactions over player experiences. The single-player game is very immersive and almost role-play centred that if they GTA'd it then you'd lose a lot of what makes RDR what it is compared to just being a period-piece GTA.
  16. Necromancy! I could have started a new one, but thought I'd dive back into this thread; Who's looking at Red Dead Redemption 2 Online next month? Still only just started the single player campaign really, but will dip into online when it starts as I think this could be great if handled right. I expect most GTAers to at least try RDR so we may have a day1 posse going, maybe?
  17. Changing the Site Address fields and then moving the files to the root should be all you need to do (in that order or it's a *massive* pain). There'll probably be a lot of cleanup with links and image URLs as well but there's a lot of plugins that can handle that for you if it's a huge site. The official how-to is at https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress if you want step-by step. But as jjc said, you could just keep the files in the subdirectory and serve them from root with a .htaccess file ( https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory )
  18. I got a Ring RSC612 a couple of years ago and it's been fantastic. Topping up the Octy battery occasionally and managing to bring back to life a completely dead battery from the Citigo that was standing for about 18 months unused too. Could be old tech by now though? Not needed to look recently.
  19. Your name can be tagged, just not your account (obvs). I often tag inanimate objects in my photos for a laugh. They're not on Facebook either but, boy, do my mates know "weird claw hand" and "totally not alcohol" are in the group sesh from last Friday. Combine that name with the profiles that are tagged, the location and time that are embedded in the metadata and someone could quite easily link that to your as a person. Depends how 1984 you really want to get about it; I've never had PPI or a car accident but the ******s keep telling me I have.
  20. If you intend to use it for 'drawing' with apps like procreate/adobe/etc. then it's worth it as a tool. It's got great pressure/tilt sensitivity and when you get past the feeling of jamming it into glass it becomes very natural. If it's just a stylus for colouring you may be better getting one of the generic fat-tipped styluses as it'll be a lot cheaper and you won't really miss the nuances that make the pencil great. Also the pencil's are quite delicate and dropping them lots will soon see you needing a replacement, and at almost £100 that's worth considering. All that said, if you use the iPad a lot for productivity (word processing etc.) I've found the pencil and keyboard combo amazingly useful. Just for selecting text and navigating the UI it's a world of difference compared to trying to jab my fat finger at the right bit of the screen.
  21. So... We getting the crew back out of retirement for the Doomsday Heist?
  22. But, but... how would people feel superior then?
  23. What's been your issue with Handbrake? I literally open the movie, click on a preset and click go and I have an mp4 movie that works on pretty much every device I own. The only hassle I've ever met is when I want to use soft subtitles when foreign language in the films isn't burnt in. But that's my own OCD for not wanting the hideous subtitle font etched onto the movie. The only other software I use for ripping is MakeMKV – usually for all my blu-ray rips. If your android will play MKV files you could try that as a full solution, otherwise you can rip to MKV and convert that to mp4 with any video conversion tool (I use handbrake on the MKV when ripping blu-ray).
  24. handbrake.fr It should have presets for phone sizes if that's all you're going to watch it on. I've done hundreds of movies and dozens of TV shows with it and had no issues at all.
  25. I have a similar issue, my PC is on wifi - pretty much directly above the router but has dial-up speeds when I connect on a 5Ghz channel. If I switch it to 2.4Ghz I get much better speeds. Considering it's literally about 3-4 metres away (through a floor/wall) I expected better. Upgraded the card to a newer AC one and same issues. Pretty much resigned to the fact that I need to run some Cat5 if I want it quicker. Living with the speed I get on 2.4Ghz which is plenty for general browsing but occasionally slow enough to get lag rage online when gaming. Oddly enough if I sit the Macbook, phone or tablet next to the PC I get pretty much max speed from the Wifi. The only thing I'm left considering is seeing if a Wifi card with an external antenna might work on the PC – assuming it's the case or it's placement under the desk that's causing it?
