  1. You won't get any of those symptoms with a turbodiesel, replace the cracked tank first, they're only a tenner from ECP.
  2. Find an independent VW specialist, there must be plenty round your area.
  3. I'm afraid that you have classic head gasket failure symptoms, check to see if the cooling system is still pressurized when the engine is cold although the cracked expansion tank probably won't hold the pressure for long enough and needs replacing.
  4. You're going to find this conversion tricky because the TT is based on the Golf platform while the Fabia is a Polo, so the TT drivetrain won't physically fit within the available floor space.
  5. It may be a simple matter of incorrect interpretation of the load/speed index which is embossed separately on modern tyres, all this talk of vintage cars may have caused a mis-remembering of that information, most tyre fitters have extremely limited understanding of tyre markings, they just fit them.
  6. This thread has been dead for thirteen years, there's a near zero chance of getting a reply, best thing to do is start a new thread about your particular problem.
  7. Yes, it's a major error, the exhaust cam is not timed correctly, as you say, it's a whole tooth out. Show the dealer the error and ask for it to be redone correctly.
  8. Changing the switch won't change the operating logic so I'm not surprised it doesn't work unless the control module can be recoded to suit.
  9. They just didn't work very well, every car you've mentioned had terrible brakes as standard!
  10. Lean burn engines rely on surviving very high combustion chamber temperatures, the exhaust valves get much hotter than the inlets and depend on good seating to conduct the heat away from the valve and into the head casting. The 12V engine is much less susceptible to valve burning than the 6V because there is more surface area to conduct the heat away.
  11. Stainless quick release clips from Jubilee are narrower as are wire clips, you don't need massive clamping force to retain a hose if it fits properly.
  12. Absolutely, I'm not suggesting the sensor isn't working, only that the ECU will ignore it until a certain temperature is reached because leaning the mixture cannot take place until fuel can no longer condense on the port walls, this isn't relevant on direct injection engines, only older port injection engines like ours.
  13. Nothing has happened to brake fluid, if you want absolute top performance from your brakes because you're an enthusiastic driver then I recommend changing your brake fluid every spring, that way all the moisture naturally absorbed by the fluid during the winter is removed. If you have an Eezibleed and half a litre of brand new fluid it takes no more than half an hour to change the lot.
  14. The ECU ignores the Lambda probe until the engine is up to temperature, only then will it attempt to run in closed loop mode. Hence your accidental test results. It is not possible to repair the probe, you should replace it if you suspect it is faulty.
  15. Did the ABS block get bled after changing the master cylinder? If not, it's air trapped in the valve block.
  16. I suspect the master cylinder, those wheel cylinders look dry to me.
  17. Looking at the photo it's the vacuum line running from the throttle body butterfly and it must be leaking horribly, there will be a non return valve downstream but that won't stop the engine sucking air when the butterfly is supposed to be almost shut at idle, hence the rough tickover.
  18. Yes, yes and yes. Well, technically the air isn't unmetered it's just not under ECU control via the electronic throttle butterfly.
  19. The air leak from the missing grommet is the problem, the spark plugs are a red herring.
  20. I always swore by Mintex M1144 pads, they're expensive but they don't fade under hard use, discs should be nodular cast iron, Brembo are my favourites. Don't bother with fancy pants brake fluids, fresh DOT4 is just dandy and cheap enough to change every year, always buy a new sealed bottle and throw away the old one from last year that you were keeping for topping up.
  21. The clip is too wide, use a narrower clip which will crush the pipe down into the groove, I see you removed all the white tape filing the groove in the first picture in the closeup third photo so you're on the right track.
  22. Because I carry one, my Elegance came with a full-sized spare.
  23. A full size alloy wheel and tyre fits in a Mark 1 Fabia wheel well, ask me how I know.
  24. You get a slurping noise and some foaming, try it, you might like it.
  25. A leakdown test is unnecessary with such good compression, it simply tells you whether the valves or rings are responsible for a low compression reading. I'd be looking for an air leak somewhere, try misting all the inlet joints with washing up liquid solution and look for a telltale.
