  1. When you pull your handbrake on do you hold the button in or let it click through the ratchets? I recall on a previous car that pulling up the handbrake with the button pressed in the ratchet didn't engage correctly & as soon as you let go it dropped back down. Most people pull it up through the ratchet clicks, but my driving instructor (emergency services) marked you down unless you used the button in method.
  2. Asda had 4 litre bottles on offer yesterday for £22. The offers don't last long & it might be just local store, but worth a look if you are doing shopping at Asda. It is the correct VW code shown for my petrol Octy 3.
  3. Did you get a pouch with 1ltr oil & some wipes as the vertical strap is the same as my Octy, which came with the pouch. I am certain they are supplied standard with the car. As others say no high viz, warning triangle or fire extinguisher as not a legal requirement in the UK. Would ask the dealer for the oil pouch if you didn't get one.
  4. I guess you mean stolen, which was one reason given for them not being with the car anymore. To copy one you need a Skoda SD card as they are not a normal capacity card - so no real point.
  5. A few years ago a mechanic showed me how to touch up a stone chip using the corner of a piece of paper. Dip the corner into paint & touch the chip with it. You only get a small amount of paint into the chip & no "blob" of paint. Let it dry & repeat as needed to get a level surface - works for me.
  6. Have you not sorted the road names problem you posted on the 11th Nov 13? I would suggest you get the dealer to order a new SD card from Skoda or ask Skoda UK to sort it. One reply to previous post was from "dellfan" who seemed to do a download OK - you could PM him to ask what he did. When you did the download did you do a copy of the SD card before formatting. If all else fails copy the original files back onto the card.
  7. I have a 2013 Octy 1.4TSi Elegance with DSG & almost 68yrs old - paid £192 fully comp with protected NCD. A friend of mine 71 yrs old with a VW Passat 11plate TDi & DSG is paying just over £200. I guess you need to shop around, although many factors affect prices including postcode. So what can be cheap for some is dearer for others just because of where you live.
  8. Slightly off topic, but the sales lady who took me on the test drive before I bought my 1st Octy asked if I had driven a DSG before - the reason was the female who test drove the car before me decided to brake sharply on the motorway, but forgot she was driving a DSG. The result was a 360 spin with the engine revving it's nuts off. Both needed a change of underwear & were fortunate no other vehicles following.
  9. Asda usually have the correct oil at much cheaper than Halfords etc. If you have a local Asda saves the messing about ordering online & waiting around for delivery. Not bought any for a while so don't know current price, but has always been cheapest I have found.
  10. My Octy 2 with DSG changed up into 7th much sooner than my new Octy, which holds 6th until about 1700 rpm. I am sure it's all to do with economy as I am averaging 50mpg compared with 45 with previous car. You tend not to notice the changes which are very smooth. A matter of opinion I know but would be most reluctant to return to a manual box.
  11. Agree with "wantaskoda" I got my car in Sept & every postcode used so far caused no problems. My only gripe is the lack of speed camera locations.
  12. I don't have a vrs but my Elegance came with 2 keys & I am almost certain they all come with 2. I thought all new motors came with 2 keys although I do know that some marques supply a full function key & a limited function one.
  13. I got an email about 3 weeks after taking delivery of the car. I did sign up & as I don't have legal expenses cover saw that it was part of the Ensurance package. If you search these threads for Ensurance you will see that many think it's OK, but others don't for whatever reason. I would expect your insurance company would make a charge if you changed your cover. My dealer also didn't mention it, but it is on Skoda website. I suspect it will fall on deaf ears at the dealers. I doubt the extra cost from your ins company will be huge, so maybe just remember at renewal to decline cover.
  14. As Gabbo suggests - get it done when car is in for service & no extra costs as you infer. Also the OP is having problems downloading, so your "doing it at home for free seems simpler to me..." is only simpler if he can do it.
  15. Obviously don't know your work circumstances, but your employer needs to take note if this is happening on their property & probably by another employee. If an accident happened because of it & someone was injured or God Forbid was killed they & the idiot(s) doing it could end up facing serious criminal charges. The tyre looks like it will plug. I had a similar a while back & the tyre place plugged & vulcanised it. Seemed like standard practice for them.
  16. After all the hassle you have had I hope you get the "perfect" motor you paid for and deserve.
  17. Totally agree with you, especially because of your last sentence. It was only for a day but a Citroen C4 (new) went in for service & I was given as a service loan car - A dirty white van with builders mud all over. My complaint was treat with "take it or leave it". That was a main dealer who never saw me as a customer again - for obvious reasons. So feel for you but could have been much worse.
  18. Is your car set at variable? If it is you won't get a warning at 9400miles. Mine is on variable (factory set) but as I got the free services for 3 years it will be serviced before the car warns service due. The dealer sticker in the car shows service due on the date the car is 1 year old or 10000miles. Dealer must think it is miles rather than kilometres. Sticker now in service book in case of dispute in the future.
  19. It can but would you want to? Maybe a bit old fashioned but I would rather have the oil changed sooner having seen what comes out of the sump when oil is left in for long periods.
  20. This was on a previous topic & it was suggested using a hockey puck & cutting a groove in it. Looks same as eBay suggestion from ChrisRs but only £1.30 on eBay, except you will need to cut a groove in it.
  21. As others have said "horses for courses" but for what it's worth, this is my second Octy & following my experience with the 1.4TSi first time round it was my choice this time. Plenty of acceleration when needed & I have never found it lacking power when required. I have a light touch right foot & being retired don't need to rush about & after 3000miles I am getting 50mpg. My 1st Octy averaged 45mpg
  22. I too fitted these to my previous Octy & it was straightforward. As Pumatron stated line them up & mark with removable ink pen. One word of warning though, the instructions tell you not to fit them in cold conditions. Best to fit inside a building & if the cills are cold warm them using a hairdryer or the adhesive won't stick fully.
  23. The lack of speed camera locations compared to my TomTom is an issue - but my Amundsen gets me to where I am going, with spoken directions, lane guidance, re-routes, with TPS indicates roadworks etc, no trailing wires, keeps going without the need to charge. If it does what it is supposed to why carry a separate unit about????
  24. That's an understatement when you consider that both sides need doing. Very good video but lots of effort & potential for damage for not a lot of benefit IMHO.
